Chapter 0025
Lucian’s POV
The family gathering was taking place at my parents‘ villa paced in their living room, back and forth across the carpet. The party was about to start, but Aria hadn’t arrived yet.
Ben walked in from outside, shaking his head. Under his breath, he muttered, “Could it really be. Is Luna really Dr. A?”
A few days ago, Ben had called Aria at my request to ask her if she needed a ride to the family gathering. She had refused the offer, which had seemed to be another clue for Ben. Since then, he’d walked around in a trance, lost in thought like he was trying to put a mental puzzle together but was missing a few of the pieces,
I understood entirely. The puzzle was unfinished in my minal too,
For now, I didn’t reply to Ben. I just kept looking at the villa’s front door, Walting, Hoping
Ben, glancing at me, said, “I heard from the maids that Shella locked herself in her bedroom all day. They could hear crying from the hallway.”
“After how she acted at the hospital, she should see this as lesson,” I said, feeling no sympathy.
I also severely doubted the genuineness of Sheila’s tears. Undoubtedly, she just wanted the maids to feel sorry for her, so they would report to me.
Shifting gears, I asked Ben, “How are things at the hospital?”
“We have active surveillance,” Ben said. “Someone walks by the office every half hour, then reports in So far, Dr. A has been sitting in the office all evening‘
“What is she doing?” I asked.
“Studying some medical textbooks, it seems like,” Ben said. “I could have our contact enter the office and inquire
“No,” I said quickly. “Whatever you do, don’t disturb her. She could be doing important work. Just observe, don’t interfere.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Tonight was the night I would discover the truth, I was sure of it. Either Aria would appear or she wouldn’t, and if she didn’t, proving she was Dr. A, I could worry about the details later. In time, we could discuss how she hid her Identity and her scent. For now, I just needed the truth.
“We want our mate back…” Max whispered.
“Patience….” I whispered back.
Max huffed.
As I continued to wait, my parents soon joined me.
Mom was upset. “Hasn’t Aria arrived yet? You did invite her, didn’t you?”
I smiled a little at her words. She had no idea what tonight would mean for Aria and me.
“Lucian,” Dad scolded. “Do not take that attitude with your mother. This party is for you and Aria. You must do whatever you can to not divorce.”

“Ignore him,” Mom said, turning from me. “He will regret this one day. I’ll go and call Aria, and find out for myself where she is.”
Suddenly, one of my subordinates hurriedly opened the front door. “She’s here, Alpha King.”
My heart leapt in my chest. She was here…? How could that be? Was Dr. A still at the hospital?
1 looked at Ben. Immediately, he turned and rushed to a nearby phone.
With the front door opened, with my alpha hearing, I could discern some commotion outside on the lawn and patio.
“She’s so beautiful…”
“That’s not Aria, is it? Can’t be…”
“Gorgeous.”
*can this be the Luna?”
“Aria has always been plain and dowdy… who knew she was like this underneath?”
Following the noises, I walked toward the door. Mom moved in step, crowding the door behind me.
“Oh, my…” Mom gasped.
I totally froze.
There, walking up the sidewalk toward the villa, was Aria, in a short, skinny red dress, with her hair loose and flowing, and her makeup bolder than usual but still understated and beautiful.
She looked like a dream, or a fantasy. Not the unimposing woman I had been married to for the past three years.
Tonight, she was absolutely stunning.
“Who is that person next to Aria…?” someone nearby asked.
I stepped outside to get a better view.
Jasper came around from the other side of the car. As he approached Aria, he held out his hand for her to take. She paused a moment, then placed her hand in his.
And I saw red.
Aria’s POV
I’d hesitated in taking Jasper’s hand. For a moment, I thought of outright refusing him.
But then he whispered to me, “Don’t you want to see Lucian’s reaction?”
As Lucian didn’t love me, I knew he wouldn’t be jealous. Yet, the hope that maybe he would be this time gave me the last bit of courage I needed to take Jasper’s hand and let him lead me to the party.
“Our mate is here,” Luna whispered. “He’s coming..”
I lifted my head, looking toward the entrance. Lucian was there, his shoulders tense, his face dark with anger.
Was he angry I had decided to come? He was the one who invited me, and the one who wrote please on my invitation. What a hypocrite, to be angry that I’d actually take him up on it!
From beside me, Jasper chuckled slightly. “It’s working. I knew he’d be like this.”

“He’s angry I’m here,” I whispered back to him.
Jasper just laughed harder. “Aria, you really are clueless, aren’t you? But then, maybe you’re a pair. He’s probably as blind to his feelings as you are.
“You don’t know what you are talking about.”
Maybe.” Jasper said, lifting one shoulder. “Or maybe I’m the only one who does.”
Before I could figure out what Jasper was getting at, my breath caught. Lucian was approaching, a furious expression on his face. His brow was lowered, his eyes flashing with anger.
Gods, I was in for a scolding for sure. Maybe he’d even ask me to leave.
Everyone was watching me. How embarrassing this was about to be, with him demanding I leave in front of
everyone.
My stomach flip–flopped. This time, I didn’t think it was from the pregnancy, but that certainly didn’t help matters. My feet stopped at once, refusing to go any further
I wasn’t welcome here. “I should leave,” I whispered to Jasper. I wanted out of here before Lucian could tell me off. Before I had the confirmation I needed – but didn’t want – that my presence was only ever an unhappy
burden to him.
Jasper only held my hand tighter. “Don’t go. You’ll miss the best part.‘
-Jasper.”
“He’s coming.” Luna whispered “No, he’s here.”
Suddenly, a warm suit jacket dropped around my shoulders. It carried Lucian’s scent and his warmth.
Glancing up, I found him standing beside me, very near, only a few inches away.
He stared down at me with a heated intensity in his eyes. What I had earlier perceived as anger, now looked like something else
I didn’t want to presume and be wrong. But I could have sworn he seemed… jealous?
No, that couldn’t be.
Behind that emotion, warring with it, was something else. Something more passionate…
In a flash, whatever those emotions were, Lucian smothered them.
In its place was an angry heat.
His voice came out a growl. “That dress…..
