Chapter 209
After chatting for a while with Ellie, Aaron was ready to leave.

He glanced at Alex, who was hopping around on one leg and waving at him from across the artificial pond, and frowned slightly.
Ellie checked her phone and saw that she had a message from Diana and Lacey, who were waiting for her at the gate. Then, Ellie sent Aaron to the gate and picked up Diana and Lacey by the way.
“Hey, Aaron,” Lacey called out as she got out of her car at the Warren Manor.
But Diana, who had gotten out a second earlier, didn’t say anything to Aaron. Instead, she greeted Ellie and hurried off to the bathroom.
Aaron watched Diana’s back as she walked away, then subtly shifted his gaze back to Ellie.
Once Aaron left, Ellie and Lacey exchanged a quick glance.
“Ellie, did Diana and Aaron have a fight or something?” Lacey asked.
“I don’t think so,” Ellie replied, pulling Lacey inside.
Aaron was always calm and polite with girls.
Even though Ellie couldn’t remember much because of her memory loss, she knew from Joanna that Diana was the daughter of Aaron’s most respected teacher.
Because of this connection, Aaron always let Diana have her way, no matter how much trouble she caused. He never lost his temper with her.
As Ellie and Lacey walked past Alex, Ellie ignored him.
“Hey, Alex–the–Lame, Lacey teased, grinning at Alex.
Alex glared at her through gritted teeth and subconsciously looked at Ellie, who had already walked into the living room.
Alex’s teasing nickname reminded Ellie of her father, who had been called “Harold–the–Lame” for years. A pang of sadness hit Ellie.
Not wanting Alex to disturb her, Ellie had the servants prepare seme fruits and snacks and took Lacey and Diana upstairs.
The three girls each found a comfy spot on the couch in the lounge.
“Ellie, have you remembered anything yet?” Diana asked, tearing open a bag of snacks.
Ellie’s face fell instantly. “Not yet,” she replied.
Diana raised an eyebrow. “Has Alex been bothering you while you’re staying here?”
Diana added, “Has he tried to trick you into getting married or seething?”
Ellie frowned at Diana’s nosy expression.
Ellie thought she must have forgotten something important because even Diana could guess what Alex was up to.
Lacey tugged at Diana’s sleeve, signaling her to stop..

en joked about burying Diana alive on Rusha Mountain if she did, scaring her so much that she had nightmares for
After a long silence, Ellie finally said, “Don’t worry. I just have a traumatic memory loss. It’s temporary. I just want to spend some time with Mr. Carlos Warren and take a break for now.”
She thought she would recover and remember everything soon enough.
“Diana, did you fight with Aaron? Lacey quickly changed the subject when she noticed Ellie’s low spirits.
Diana ripped open another bag of snacks and rolled her eyes. Td love to have a showdown with him, but he didn’t give me the chance”
“Who was it that said you’d never let another girl get her hands on Aaron and swore to win him over?” Lacey leaned in, curious about the gossip. “Have you given up already?”
“He’s such a
ck in the mud. I’ll dump him,” Diana huffed, kneeling on the couch and burying her face in a pillow
Ellie watched Diana punch the couch in frustration but stayed silent.
“Why couldn’t you just call him instead of going there?” asked Alex.
This happened two days later when Ellie was planning to go to the Thompson residence while Aaron was taking a break, and Alex hopped in front of her at the top of the stairs, blocking her way.
“I’ll be back this afternoon, Ellie said, backing away, so Alex wouldn’t hurt himself hopping around.
Alex reached out tentatively to take her hand. “How about I go with you!”
“You’d be inconvenient with just one leg. I’ll go by myself, Ellie said, stepping around him and heading downstairs.
When Ellie came back to the Thompson residence, everyone had just finished breakfast.
Ellie chatted with Joanna, Jason, and Whitney for a bit, then pulled Aaron aside upstairs.
They stood by the railing on the second floor, looking down into the main hall.
Aaron’s expression darkened slightly. “What time did she leave last night? Did she say where she was going?” he asked.
Ellie shook her head. “Diana got a call from her friend and left. I didn’t ask for details.”
Aaron frowned but didn’t press further.
Seeing Aaron didn’t want to say more, Ellie hesitated and said, “Aaron, you’ve always been so nice to Diana, letting her have her way all the time. Everyone thinks you like her. But why did Diana say you went on a blind date?”
Aaron looked down, silent for a long moment.
He said calmly, “I’ve always let her have her way and taken care of her because she’s the daughter of my most respected teacher. It’s the least I can do. But I won’t consider a romantic relationship with her. She’s just not right for me.”

His experience was enough for him to learn a lesson and be perspective.
Ellie asked, “Aaron, can’t you and Diana at least get along a little better?”
Aaron’s gaze shifted to the crystal chandelier in the hall. He said in a steady voice, “Yes, we can.”
He turned to meet Ellie’s excited eyes and said calmly. “We can be the best of friends.
The best relationship between a man and a woman was to be the best of friends.
Ε
They could interact like friends–with loyalty, care, and trust. They could be warm in each other’s company but also. independent when apart.
It wasn’t as complicated as romantic love, which required a balance of power and mutual value.
That was the most suitable and long–lasting relationship Aaron could think of with Diana.
Just then, Ellie’s phone screen lit up with a call from Lacey.
Lacey said. “Ellie, you need to go to the West Suburb Police Station and bail Diana out. I can’t leave right
She added, “Don’t tell her family.”
As soon as Ellie hung up with Lacey, Aaron had already been healing downstairs.

Ellie and Aaron rushed to the West Suburb Police Station and found out that Diana was there because she had fight while she was drunk the night before..
She had lost her phone and only managed to give Lacey’s number to the police this morning
Since Lacey was busy, she had called Ellie.
Aaron quickly completed the paperwork and paid the fine.
“Diana,” Ellie called out as she saw Diana and two women walking out of the police station.
Aaron noticed Diana’s extremely short white shorts and tight crop top. Seeing Diana looking like she had just sobered up, Aaron turned and grabbed a man’s jacket from his car.
As Aaron was about to hand the jacket to Diana, the two women behind Diana quickly stepped between them.
“Aaron, are you here to pick up Yvette?” said the middle–aged woman, dressed like a wealthy socialite. She pushed the younger girl beside her forward.
The two stood between Aaron and Diana, forcing Aaron to retract his hand awkwardly.
Seeing Aaron staring at Diana, the middle–aged woman couldn’t help but ask, “Aaron, do you know fier?”
“She is the daughter of my teacher, Aaron replied politely.
Hearing this, the middle–aged woman burst into laughter. “Aaro, did I hear that right? Can a teacher raise such an ill- mannered daughter?”
“What did you say?” Diana raised her hand to slap the woman, but Aaron caught it mid–air.
As their eyes locked. Diana stubbornly said, “If you don’t let go, slap you 100.”
Aaron grabbed Diana’s wrist, pulled her back a few steps to create some distance from the other two women, and then

released Diana.
Ellie took the jacket from Aaron and tried to put it on Diana, but Diana yanked it off and threw it away.
Ellie looked at Aaron.
“Aaron, I’m not saying your teacher is terrible, but you see her attitude, the middle–aged woman said.
She pulled her sister, pointed at Diana, and said, “She got drunk in a bar in the middle of the night, beat up Yvette and her friends, and ended up in jail.
“Not only does she not regret it, but she also wants to slap me. What does that say about her upbringing?”
“You should feel honored to be slapped by me.” Diana’s temper fared, and she pushed Ellie aside, grabbed the middle–aged woman’s hair, and slapped her.
The sharp sound of the slap and the woman’s scream created chaos.
“Diana, stop. Seeing both the other women being beaten by Diara, Ellie tried to intervene, but she was no match for Diana, who was good at boxing.
Reluctantly, Aaron stepped in and restrained Diana.
“Aaron, you jerk!” Diana was locked from behind by Aaron, unable to move or break free, and could only curse.
“Aaron, how could she be so unreasonable?” said the young woman named Yvette.
Seeing his blind date come over, Aaron warned her, “Stay back, or she might hurt you.”
Yvette, frightened, stopped in her tracks.
When Dianu saw Aaron care for the other woman, her eyes welled up with tears, and she struggled even harder.
Aaron kept Diana restrained and said to the two women, “I apologize on her behalf. Please go home, and I will go to visit you later to explain.”
“I don’t mind a little grievance. I’ll wait for you at home, Yvette said, wisely pulling her older sister away.
Once the two women had left, Aaron finally released Diana
“You jerk!” Diana threw her bag at Aaron, who easily dodged it.
“Diana, calm down, and let’s talk this through, Ellie said.
She stepped forward but got pushed aside by Diana. “Ellie, get out of my way.”
Ellie stumbled backward and was caught by Aaron. “Stay back,” Aaron said.
On the sidewalk opposite the police station, Ellie quickly moved out of the way when she watched as Diana and Aaron started fighting
Diana kept attacking, while Aaron kept dodging. Diana cursed, but Aaron remained silent, making Ellie feel both worried and anxious.
“Do you know how dangerous it is for a girl to be in a bar in the middle of the night?” Aaron said.
“You got drunk, got into a fight, and now you’re lashing out. Can you just talk things through?” he added.

Realizing she couldn’t break free from Aaron. Diana cried out in frustration, “I can drink as much as I want and slap whoever I want. It’s none of your business.”
Aaron replied, “Diana, you’re a grown–up. Even if you’re acting out, there should be some limits.
“Mr. Declan Grant called me several times this morning. He is worried about you. You should have let your family know if you weren’t coming home last night.”
“It was that girl’s friend who tried to take advantage of me when was drunk. I had every right to fight back. If my brothers find out, they will deal with them.” Diana sobbed, breaking free from Aaron’s grip.
Hearing this, Aaron softened his expression and slowly released Diana.
Aaron said, “Diana, before you blame others, you need to reflect on your own actions. As an adult, you should be responsible for your behavior. If you hadn’t gone to the bar and gotten drunk, no one would have had the chance to hurt you.”
Diana pushed Aaron away and said, “You just care about your blind date’s feelings. Fine. I’m standing right here. Do you want to hit me back for her?”
Aaron frowned. “Diana, even if your family spoils you, you need to know when to stop. Not everyone will tolerate your bad temper.”
Their eyes met, and Diana’s tears flowed freely..
She stubbornly held her head high, looked into Aaron’s eyes, and then turned and walked away while crying.
Aaron watched Diana’s stubborn back as she left but didn’t chase after her.
“Diana,” Ellie called out, catching up and handing Diana a tissue.
At that moment, Quinlee’s car pulled up to the curb.
Tm fine, Ellie,” Diana said, getting into Quinlee’s car.
When Ellie returned, Aaron was still standing in the same spot.
“Aaron, weren’t your words a bit harsh?” Ellie asked.
“If she keeps acting this way, she’s going to get herself into real trouble, Aaron replied.
Ten minutes later, Quinlee watched as Diana, still tear–stained, gobbled down an omelet.
Quinlee said cautiously, “Aaron had a blind date. I heard he still couldn’t move on from his first love. He has someone in his heart and another dating. How could he care about you?”
Diana said disfluently with her mouth full, “I don’t care about him.”
Quinlee said, “I was watching from a distance just now. That girl Aaron was on a blind date with seemed quite clingy, just like his old flame.
“It looks like he still can’t get over his first love. I heard he even had the wedding ring ready. What you can’t have is always the best. That is said right
Quinlee carefully observed Diana’s worsening expression and smirked inwardly.
She thought, ‘As long as I am around, Aaron and Diana will never end up together!

“Slow down. Don’t get choked. As Diana was still eating her omelet, Aaron handed her a bag of milk through the car window.
Diana ignored it, so Aaron handed Diana’s bag to Quinlee along with the milk.
Aaron glanced at Diana who was quietly eating, then turned and left, and Ellie silently followed him back to the car.
Ellie could tell that because of her feelings for Aaron, Diana wanted his favor and protection instead of rational discussion.
Besides, because of Declan, Aaron cared for and looked after Diana, but only within the bounds of friendship.
Now, they were completely out of sync, and conflicts were inevitable.
That night, after having dinner at the Thompson residence, Ellie returned to the Warren Manor quite late.
After coming out of Carlos’s room, Ellie went straight upstairs to rest.
“Why are you back so late?” At the top of the stairs, Alex suddenly hopped in front of her, startling Ellie.
