Before dinner, Ellie returned to the Warren Manor.
Alex hopped off the sofa excitedly. “How did it go?” he asked eagerly. “Did they agree?”
Upon seeing Ellie’s eyes, red and swollen from crying, Alex’s expression froze in an instant, and he fell silent.
As Ellie changed into her slippers, he quietly stood by her side. When Ellie helped him to the dining room, he didn’t ask another question.
Carlos hadn’t been discharged yet, and Alex’s parents were still at the hospital. It was just the two of them for dinner.
Throughout the meal, Ellie didn’t mention anything about her veit to the Thompson residence, and Alex didn’t press
further.
The atmosphere in the dining room was so heavy that the servants tiptoed, afraid to make a sound.
After dinner, Alex took a call in the living room while Ellie went upstairs alone.
Barry waited in the living room, watching Alex’s gloomy expression after he hung up the phone. With a heavy heart, Barry approached.
“Mr. Warren, you have a video conference at seven. Chris will be here shortly. I’ll help you upstairs to get ready,” he said.
The meeting ended before eight. Alex went straight to Ellie’s room. Seeing the empty room, he panicked and asked, “Where
is she?
“She is in the greenhouse, the servant replied.
More than ten minutes later, Alex arrived at the greenhouse.
Watching Ellie carefully tend to Carlos‘ orchids, he felt an overwhelming sense of suppression.
Since her return, Ellie hadn’t mentioned a word about the Thompson residence, and he had a pretty good idea why.
Pushing past Barry, Alex entered the greenhouse, disregarding his injured leg-
He stood behind Ellie, looking down at her as she squatted by the flowerpot, loosening the soil.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and after a long while, he finally spoke.
You wr
promised you’d stay with Grandpa until the end. Even if they don’t agree for us to be together, you can’t leave,” he said.
Ellie stopped what she was doing.
She put down the small trowel, took off her gloves, and looked up at Alex.
Upon seeing that she still wouldn’t speak, the emotions in Alex’s eyes grew more intense. He took two steps forward, bent down, and pulled her up.
“Ellie, you can’t leave me behind, he said, standing face to face with her.
Ellie subtly pulled her hand away,

Alex’s hand was now empty, and he stared at her in a daze. Ilis veice trembled as he spoke again. “Did you regret promising me? Is it because Mrs. Thompson and Aaron still won’t forgive me
“Ellie, wait for me. I’ll go to the Thompson residence. I’ll beg them. I’ll kneel down to Mrs. Thompson if I have to,” Alex said, turning to leave the greenhouse.
Watching Alex, his eyes red and swollen, rushing out of the greenhouse to the Thompson residence to plead with her family. Ellie followed him out helplessly.
“You should go upstairs and rest. I’ll go to the Thompson residence and talk to them myself. I’ll kneel down to Mrs. Thompson if that’s what it takes, Alex insisted, instructing Barry to get the car while coaxing Ellie to go upstairs and rest.
He knew how filial Ellie was and how much she respected Aaron’s words.
In the hospital, Ellie had finally agreed to be with him, and he couldn’t afford to miss this opportunity.
“No.” Ellie said, her eyes red–rimmed as she looked at Alex. “You don’t have to go.”
Alex carefully held Ellie’s hands, his eyes red and his entire demeanor utterly humble. “Ellie, don’t leave,” he pleaded.
Ellie pulled her hands free from Alex’s grip. His empty hand fell imply to his side.
He gently closed his eyes, his damp eyelashes trembling fiercely
He had tried with all his might to keep her, thinking he could, only to realize that it had all been just his own foolish fantasy. Alex turned, gazing into the distance at the greenhouse, and forced himself to ask. “When do you plan to leave?”
“I never said I was leaving.” Ellie’s soft and gentle voice came from behind. Alex spun around abruptly.
Their eyes met, and Ellie took two steps forward. Gathering her courage, she carefully reached out and embraced him.
She pressed Tier cheek to his chest, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat, and said, “My mom agreed.”
Alex’s crimson eyes w welled up with emotion.
His mind buzzed with confusion for a moment, and all he could hear was the pounding of his own heart. After what felt like an eternity, Alex came to his senses.
“Ellie,” he whispered. Like a madman, he lifted Ellie into his arm and spun around in circles in the garden. His eyes were terrifyingly red. Though he was laughing, tears streamed down his face without pause.
From a distance, Barry watched his boss, who was nimbly carrying Ellie in circles around the garden, and quickly moved away to give them space.
“Alex, your leg is still injured. Put me down, Ellie said, hearing Alex’s choked sobs and struggling to slide out of his grasp. Alex held Ellic close, his hand resting on the back of her neck.
He rested his forehead against hers and croaked. “Let me check m not dreaming, am 1?”
Before Ellie could understand what he meant, his cool lips had ready met hers. There were no other movements, and they were just immersed in their small world.
The garden was eerily quiet, with only the stars in the sky as witnesses, serene and gentle.

After what seemed like a long while. Alex reluctantly released her
Seeing Ellie’s flushed face, lowered in embarrassment, Alex looked at her with the gaze of a devout believer.
“I’ll never lose you again,” he said. “You filled my entire past, and you can’t be absent from my future.
Ellie bravely looked up into Alex’s passionate eyes.

On a June night, the garden of the Warren Manor was enveloped by the starry sky, with occasional chirping insects and ant otherwise silent atmosphere.
The two stood in the garden, holding each other’s hands and looking into each other’s eyes.
Recalling the half–spoken words from Aaron and the hesitant looks from her aunts and uncles at the Thompson residence earlier, the tenderness in Ellie’s eyes gradually turned to seriousness.
She said to Alex., “Alex, I have amnesia and can’t remember many things. I don’t want to hear it from others right now; I just want to hear it from you.
–
A flicker of emotion crossed Alex’s eyes as he asked, “What do you want to hear?”
“I just want to know if anything bad happened between us during my amnesia, Ellie replied.
“In what way?” Alex inquired.
“Any way, Ellie clarified.
Their eyes met, and the atmosphere became inexplicably heavy
Alex’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he looked into Ellie’s eyes and said firmly, “No, we’re fine.”
Ellie looked into Alex’s eyes again for confirmation. “Really?”
“Really Alex assured her.
Ellie’s eyes softened. She believed that a man who would risk his life for her wouldn’t lie to her. “Alex, even though I can’t remember many things, I trust that you wouldn’t deceive me, she said.
Emotions surged in Alex’s eyes as he pulled her into another tigis embrace.
He buried his head in the crook of Ellie’s neck, hiding the emotions in his eyes from everyone else.
“Alex, I broke my promise to Aaron by choosing to trust you. I didn’t listen to Aaron,” Ellie said softly.
“I know,” Alex replied, his breath catching at the sound of her gentle voice.
“I’ve hurt Aaron and worried my family,” Ellie continued. “If you lie to me, I’ll never speak to you again for the rest of my life
Alex’s grip on Ellie tightened, his arms trembling slightly. After long pause, he responded in a suppressed tone. “I won’t.”
