Chapter 223
Ellie was undergoing her second treatment. Lying hypnotized on the examination table, she was being guided by the specialist to keep recalling things.
Her face was pale, with a sheen of cold sweat on her forehead. Her hands, which Alex was holding tightly, unconsciously grasped his firmly. Alex’s heart tightened suddenly, and he stood up abruptly, shouting, “Stop!”
The specialist treating Ellie’s insomnia said, “Ms. Thompson’s condition is very promising. If she continues with these sessions, she should be able to regain all her memories soon!”
Alex sat on the chair beside the examination table, gripping Ellie’s hand tightly. His breathing was a bit ragged, and his eyes were fixed on the still–unconscious Ellie, his expression constantly changing.
After a long moment of silence, Alex said, “There’s no need to continue the treatment!”
The specialist was clearly surprised. “Do you mean…?”
“I’ll continue bringing her here. You just need to hypnotize her; you don’t need to worry about the rest!” Alex said, and then gave Barry a meaningful look.
“Professor, could we have a word outside?” Barry led the specialist out of the exam room.
After they left, only Alex and the still–unconscious Ellie remained in the room.
Alex’s hand, holding Ellie’s, trembled slightly. He was suppressing his emotions, and there were obvious signs of struggle in his flickering eyes.
If he hadn’t interrupted in time, Ellie would almost have remembered that he went to see her on the day she started her internship at Jaslands Hospital.
He went to her and asked her to help him pursue Haley. That was the worst start for them.
“I’m sorry!” Alex rested his elbows on the edge of the bed and buried his head in Ellie’s
arm. “I’m sorry, Ellie!”
Whether he was being selfish or a jerk, he didn’t care. As long as he could keep her by his side, he didn’t care if the whole world cursed him. Even if one day she regained her memory and hated him, it was still better than having nothing between them.

Barry and Dave entered, and Alex slowly let go of Ellie’s hand.

Dave handed the white pill bottle to Alex once more. Alex gently closed his eyes and didn’t reach for the bottle. Ellie had already suffered enough because of Alex. He didn’t want to cause her more pain.
“Barry, get everything ready.” Alex stood up and carefully picked Ellie up in his arms.
In the evening, Ellie woke up in the hotel room and found herself alone. She took out her phone, about to call Alex, when she saw the text message he sent After a quick tidy–up, she left the hotel.

“Mr. Warren is already waiting for you. I’ll take you there now,” Barry said as he opened the car door for Ellie.

The car drove all the way to Skyline Plaza. As the city lights came on, the square was crowded with people. The lights of skyscrapers in various shapes were illuminated, and the surrounding buildings glowed with neon lights.

Skyline Plaza was showing its charming scenery everywhere, but it couldn’t compare to the beauty of the name of a woman formed by a huge group of drones in the sky.
Ellie got out of the car and looked up along Barry’s line of sight. The diamond ring formed by the drones in the sky was so dazzling. Just as she was about to exclaim in admiration, Ellie was shocked to see her own name.
She thought she had seen it wrong, so she looked more carefully. Then, suspecting it was just a coincidence of the same name, she looked at Barry.
Barry pointed towards Skyline Plaza and said, “Ms. Thompson, Mr. Warren is waiting for you there.”
Ellie turned around and found herself on a path covered with thick rose petals. Countless bodyguards lined up on both sides, guarding the path leading to the center of Skyline Plaza.
With everyone’s eyes on her, Ellie walked forward slowly. She could sense what was about to happen. Her heart was pounding so hard that it seemed like it was going to jump out of her chest.
With determined steps, she walked towards the end of the flower covered path, where Alex was waiting for her.
The entire center of Skyline Plaza had turned into a sea of roses. The onlookers crowded around the perimeter, leaving no space. Alex stood among the flowers in a formal suit, looking solemn and extremely dignified.
“Mom, is he a prince?” a little boy asked his mother, pointing at Alex.
Alex looked at the little boy and said, “I’m not a prince. I’m a guard, waiting for my princess.”
Ellie was Alex’s weakness, his shield, and the only light in the long journey of his future life.
Watching Ellie slowly walk towards him, Alex dropped to one knee. As he did so, Ellie’s steps suddenly halted. Above their heads, 1314 drones changed into various shapes, leaving trails of love in the sky.
Hearing the cheers around her getting louder and louder, Elle was so nervous that she could barely breathe.
Alex took the diamond ring that Barry handed him and gazed at Ellie with deep affection. Unknowingly, the corners of his eyes turned red.
He looked up, and she looked down. Their eyes met, and Alex almost choked up as he spoke. He said, “Ellie, I want to marry you. I dream about it all the time!”
He said, “No matter how strong I am, you’ll always be my weakness, the other half of me that I can’t let go of. I swear I’ll protect you with my life until the day I die!”
He said, “Ellie, marry me!”
Ellie looked down at Alex, already in tears. His proposal was bold and straightforward, just like him. Her steady gaze remained fixed on him, noticing the nervousness and deep anticipation in his eyes.
Around them, the tourists‘ cheers continued, and the atmosphere reached its peak. Ellie slowly extended her left hand. She said to Alex, “I’ve finally been waiting for you, Alex!”
A chill came from her fingertip as the luxurious diamond ring was slipped onto her left middle finger. Ellie saw the tears

Ellie was confused.
