Chapter 240
“Let go!” Alex broke free from Layton’s grip and marched towards Ellie.
At that very instantly.
moment, Aaron walked in through the restaurant door. Seeing Alex heading towards Ellie, he darkened his face
Diana kept her head turned, staring at the door. When she saw Aaron come in, she was so scared that she jumped up and
Tan.
So focused was she on watching Aaron
that she didn’t notice the person behind her. She turned around and bumped. straight into Alex’s chest, letting out a yelp of pain.
The next second, Diana was used as a shield by Alex and was pushed right in front of Aaron. “You little scum. Alex!” Diana shouted as she stumbled towards Aaron, calling Alex a jerk.
Aaron watched as Alex approached Ellie but was forced to halt and catch Diana.
When Alex approached Ellie, she had already risen from her seat. Without a word, he grasped her hands to inspect her wrists for any injuries. Upon seeing her unmarred wrists, Alex’s face darkened as his gaze shifted to Lacey.
Lacey’s expression turned sheepish as she tucked her chin and hid behind Layton.
Seizing the moment, Ellie wrenched her hands free from Alex’s grasp and darted over to Aaron’s side. She didn’t want to see Alex, not for a single second.
“You all keep chatting, I’m outta here.” Diana said, slipping away like an eel, making her escape first.
Aaron had no intention of stopping Diana. He cast a glance at Alex before pulling Ellie away.
Alex stared blankly at Ellie’s resolute figure as she walked away.
Watching Ellie pull out a wet wipe and continuously scrubbing the hands he had held as she walked, Alex felt as if something was lodging in his chest, suffocating him.
She was avoiding him, found him repulsive. She wouldn’t even say a word to him, didn’t even want to glance at him. Snapping out of his thoughts, Alex gave Lacey a warning glance and dragged Layton away.
“Bro, if you’re looking for trouble, don’t drag me down with you. Layton said as Alex pulled him out of the restaurant, step by step.
Late at night, at the Thompson mansion at West Suburbs No. 7, Ellie was asleep when she sensed a figure by her bedside. startling her awake with a shiver. Seeing Alex in his black pants and shirt, his eyes red, standing by her bed, Ellie instinctively moved to the other side of the bed.
As she was about to call out, Alex clamped his hand over her mouth. Kneeling on the bed, he muttled his voice, saying. “Ellic. don’t shout. I just want to talk, I just want to see you!”
Ellie discreetly glanced toward the balcony and reluctantly nodded.
Seeing Ellie nod, Alex slowly released her. She sat on the bed, her head hanging down, while Alex knelt beside her. Realizing Ellie truly hadn’t called for anyone, Alex sighed in relief and adjusted the blanket that had slipped off her. He peered down at Ellie, her face was mostly concealed by her long hair, making her expression unreadable.
He couldn’t resist reaching out to tuck Ellie’s long hair behind her ear. Before his fingers could brush against her hair, Ellie

turnest her head away. Alex’s hand hung in mid–air for what felt like an eternity before finally dropping
Ellie discreetly reached for her phone and hid it under the blanket. The past wounds were still vivid in her mind, and the told after his amnesia felt like they happened yesterday. She couldn’t bring herself to face Alex’s deceitful face.
She kept her head down, eyes closed, unwilling to look at him or utter a single word.
“I won’t do anything to you. I just want to sit down and have a calm conversation with you.”
Hearing Alex’s voice, dripping with emotion, Ellie felt no warmth, only sarcasm and disgust.
“Ellie. I’m begging you, just turn around,” Alex pleaded, noticing Ellie still kept her head down, giving him no response. On the brink of breaking down, he moved a little closer to her, delicately and cautiously, but the movement startled Ellie
nonetheless
Seeing Ellie pulling away from him, Alex reached out again, trying to grasp her arm through the blanket. “Ellie, say something!” he pleaded.
He desperately wanted to hear her voice, even if it was to hit him, scold him, or hate him. He couldn’t bear how Ellie was so coldly ignoring him like this.
“Ellie!” Alex persisted, moving closer. His eyes were rimmed with red as he said, “Luck has been wandering around looking for you since you left. How about I bring him here for you to take care of?
“The rare orchids Grandpa left behind, no one can take care of them like you can. I know you’re angry with me, even hate me, but those orchids were left to you by Grandpa. Are you really going to abandon them?”
At that moment, the bedroom door was opened from outside. Aaron burst in and threw punches at Alex.
Ellie curled up on the bed, covering her head, trying to avoid the commotion. Alex was knocked onto Ellie’s bed by Aaron’s punches. Ignoring the incoming hits, Alex reached for Ellie’s hand, calling her name, only to be angrily pulled off the bed by
Aaron.
Aaron watched as Ellie’s emotions crumbled; she was curled up under the blankets, trembling uncontrollably. He grabbed Alex by the collar and dragged him out of Ellie’s room.
Seeing Joanna. Whitney, and Jason in the hallway, Alex, with bloodshot eyes, spoke up. “Mrs. Thompson, I kept my three- year promise to you. I just want to see her!”
Joanna said. “My daughter doesn’t want to see you.
Joanna’s words sent Alex into another tailspin. “Aaron!” He turned his head numbly to look at Aaron.
With a stern expression, Aaron pointed to the staircase, saying, “It’s not just Ellie–none of us wants to see you again!” From inside the room, Ellie’s mutiled sobs of frustration echoed. Whitney quickly stepped forward, grabbing Alex and pulling him toward the staircase. “It’s the middle of the night, you troublesome brat! Get back already,” she urged.
Whitney was half–dragging, half–pulling Alex away when Jason stopped them. Dressed in dark satin pajamas, Jason blocked the hallway with one arm.
Jason’s face remained expressionless, but his voice was clearly a warning. “Give me your word: from now on, you are forbidden from seeing Ellie again!”
Jason!” Alex was frantic.
“Speak! Jason’s tone grew stricter, causing Whitney, Aaron, and Joanna to pale.
Alex glanced back at Ellie’s room. Gritting his teeth, he said to Jason, “I can’t do that!”

Alex was in so much pain that sweat formed on his forehead; Jason had broken Alex’s arms and was now holding Alex down
with his foot.
Alex endured in silence, meeting Jason’s piercing gaze from the floor. “I love Ellie. If you want me to let go, you have to kill me first!” Alex exclaimed.
Jason squatted casually next to Alex, his elongated fingers gripping Alex’s chin, a cruel smile tugging at the corners of his lips
