Chapter 253
Upon receiving the news that Quinlee and Ethan had woken up in the hospital, Patrick rushed there immediately. “What did they say?” he asked urgently as he pulled Winnie out of the ward.
Winnie repeated Quinlee’s words to her husband exactly as she had heard them. “Quinlee said that she ran into Evelyn by chance and found out what was going on.
“Feeling sorry for the Owens family, she decided to help them out, hoping to get Ethan released sooner so Evelyn would have her son to rely on in her old age.
“Ethan said the same thing. He said that when he got out, he had nothing at all. My sister felt pity for him and secretly helped him. But he ended up getting caught by the Warren family’s bodyguards.
“Patrick, during Quinlee’s college years, Quinlee and Haley were quite close. Haley even had dinner at our home when she visited Jinerity”
“Since it was all a misunderstanding, I will talk to Mr. Warren to make sure they can recover properly, Patrick reassured his wife for a moment before leaving the hospital.
As Patrick exited the hospital, he immediately instructed the butler, “Find someone who can watch Quinlee without her knowing. Be careful, and make sure my wife doesn’t find out.”
That same night. Ethan left the hospital in a state of panic, running to Evelyn’s rental apartment, where he saw Evelyn waiting for him at the door.
“Ethan, I have everything packed. We need to leave this place and get far away.” Evelyn said, looking at her son, whose injured body showed the struggles he had been through, filled with both sorrow and fear.
Before Ethan could step inside, she grabbed his arm and urged him, “Your father and sister are gone. I can’t let anything else happen to you. Come with me; we need to escape together.”
“Mom, I can’t leave.” In the dark alleyway, Ethan resisted her. “I grew up here, where do you want me to go?”
Evelyn insisted, “Anywhere but here. If you stay. Alex will kill you.
“I won’t leave. I need to get revenge for dad and Haley.”
“Do you even have what you need to fight back? You just got out of prison and don’t even have a penny to eat. Evelyn pulled her son toward the alley.
She added, “Alex has already warned me that if you come near Ellie again, he will have you killed and thrown in the river to
feed the fish.
“Alex is a horrible person. He always follows through on his threats. We need to accept our situation; if we can’t confront him, we must escape.”
“I won’t back down. I will get revenge on those who destroyed our family” Anger surged through Ethan, making his veins bulge in his neck, turning him into a frightening figure in the night
In a bit of rage, he violently pushed his mom away. During her struggle, Evelyn was slammed hard against the wall of the narrow alley, collapsing without warning.
Ethan hurriedly crouched down to lift his mother’s upper body, feeling something sticky on his hands. He pulled back the hand that had grasped her neck and, under the dim light of the street lamp, saw it covered in fresh blood
“Mom, please don’t scare me” His voice trembled. “Mom, get up. I won’t look for revenge: I will come with you. We can get away from here” But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t lift her

“This bag has the money I saved for you. Take it, find a place where no one knows you, and live well. Please promise never to come back here. Evelyn urged him. “You can’t fight the Warren family; I can’t stand to see you perish.”
Even in her last moments. Evelyn pleaded with her son to run away. Ethan knelt in the alley, holding Evelyn’s body, staring into her wide–open eyes until her very last breath.
In a moment of madness, he declared, “Don’t worry, Mom, I will face them. I will make sure to avenge you.”
At the entrance of the alley, Quinlee watched from her car, her heart racing as she saw Ethan holding Evelyn’s body. His face was filled with despair and rage, and a few fake tears fell from her eyes.
After wiping them, a smirk of satisfaction appeared on her lips.
Surprised by Alex’s sudden act. Quinlee quickly reacted. She acknowledged her secret role in getting Ethan released early and eased Patrick and Winnie’s doubts.
At first, she worried that Ethan might be too scared to seek revenge, but now it seemed her fears were unfounded. Feeling relieved, Quinlee left, not even bothering to say a final goodbye to Evelyn.
From that moment on, no one but her would ever know her true identity. She planned to use Ethan’s anger to destroy the happiness of everyone else, considering it the Owens family’s compensation for having mistakenly brought her home years
As she noticed several people rushing out from a black sedan, Quinlee felt a twinge of fear. She honked the horn deliberately to alert Ethan and quickly left the scene.
Twenty minutes later, Barry called Alex to update him on the night’s events. “Mr. Warren, Evelyn has been confirmed dead. Ethan has escaped capture, but we have provided evidence to the police showing that he accidentally killed his own mom.”
Late at night, a black Maybach parked outside the Thompson residence. Leaning against the car door, Alex chain–smoked cigarettes, pulling out his spare phone to call Ellie multiple times, only to hang up each time.
She didn’t want to see him, talk to him, or even hear his voice. She was determined to erase him from her life forever. The thought of him suffering in the future pierced Alex, his heart in anguish, bleeding painfully.
The next morning, Aaron woke to find a message from Alex: [Evelyn passed away last night.]
At breakfast, Aaron shared the news with the family. Ellie looked at Aaron. “How do you know this, Aaron?”
Aaron replied, “Alex texted me at four ten this morning”
Ellie’s forehead creased slightly, and she fell silent. She hadn’t expected that even after releasing Ethan, Alex wouldn’t stop Her thoughts rated throughout the morning. After lunch, Ellie answered Lacey’s call and went out
By three in the afternoon, while Alex was in a meeting, Barry called urgently, “Mr. Warren, Ms. Thompson is in the hospital.”
“Cancel the meeting” Alex snatched his phone and left the conference room. He hurried to the hospital where Ellie had already been moved to an observation room.
Standing outside the window, he looked at Ellie, whose neck was wrapped in white gauze, his eyes darkened with anger.
Barry said, “At the women’s clothing counter of the downtown plaza, Ms. Thompson nearly had her throat slit.”
As he watched Alex’s expression darken, Barry could only whisper, his voice becoming a faint murmur.
