Chapter 268
Chapter 268
That evening, Alex’s parents, who had not visited the Thompson residence for five years, finally returned. The Thompson family, including the children, was wide awake. Ellie watched as Alex’s parents entered the living room and quietly stood up/
She had been expecting their visit ever since she spotted Barry at the salon earlier in the day. As Alex’s parents marched straight toward the two children, Ellie exchanged a silent look with her family, and none of them intervened.
As expected, when they saw Ellie’s daughter, they showed little reaction. But when they caught sight of Ellie’s son, their pupils widened, and their faces turned pale.
Nancy swung around with excitement and, looking at Ellie, asked bluntly, “Are they Alex’s?”
Ellie moved closer, meeting Nancy’s surprised eyes with calmness. She replied, “Don’t you remember that I sacrificed my ability to have children to save your son?”
Pointing at Oscar. Nancy exclaimed, “But-”
Only after Joanna had taken the two children upstairs did Ellie continue, “When I adopted Oscar, I noticed a slight resemblance, though it was only minor.”
Todd chimed in. “You adopted these two?”
Ellie confirmed, “Yes. I may not be able to have kids, but I wanted to be a mom, so I raised these two as if they were my ownL They have no idea they’re adopted.”
Alex’s parents fell silent, each lost in thought. For a moment, the room was quiet; the atmosphere thick with tension. “I don’t believe you.” Nancy shook her head in disbelief.
Whitney handed Alex’s parents the prepared birth certificates along with Ellie’s adoption papers. “If Ellie truly had Alex’s kids, we would never let you see them,”
Whitney continued, “When their relationship was in a terrible situation, Mrs. Warren, you erased your son’s memories just to help him feel normal again, right?”
Nancy exchanged glances with her husband, slowly letting the stack of documents slip from her grip.
Whitney added, “Now that your son is out of prison and Ellie has resumed her life, we have proof of the children’s backgrounds. What more do you want, Mrs. Warren?”
Nancy shot back, “I just want to know if Oscar is my grandson.”
Aaron asked, “If he is, Mrs. Warren, what do you plan to do about it?”
Nancy replied firmly, “If he is indeed a Warren, we have the right to know.”
Aaron retorted, “And what good would that do? Are you planning to fight for custody, trying to restore Alex’s memories, and lead them back together?”
Todd responded, “Absolutely not.”
Whitney pressed on, “Mr. Warren, would you prefer your son to live well for the rest of his life, or chase an unrealistic
dream?”
Silence wrapped around the room again. Ellie stepped forward, her expression serious. “Let me be clear: these two children are my adopted kids and have no ties to the Warren family.”
Ellie continued, “Five years ago, I didn’t look back, and I won’t start now. If you truly care for Alex, you should stop coming.”

Chapter 268
Alex’s parents should have already understood what that meant. They knew their son better than anyone.
If they told Alex the truth, he would definitely want answers. The outcome could be worse than five years ago.
For the sake of Alex’s happiness, they wouldn’t foolishly pursue the children’s true lineage.
She took a chance, believing that even if Alex’s parents found out the children’s origins, they wouldn’t fight her for custody, they might even choose to hide the truth.
After a moment of tense silence, Alex’s parents stopped their questioning.
“I know you never lie; if you say they’re adopted, they must be,” Nancy said, pulling a card from her purse and offering it to Ellie.
She said, “Ellie, despite the past between you and Alex, you spent over ten years as part of the Warren family. Please consider this card a small gift from us for your two children.”
Seeing Ellie not accept it, Nancy insisted, “You’ve gone through so much for Alex; it’s mean to question the roots of these kids when we know you can’t have any. I was wrong.”
Ellie accepted the card with a composed look, and after a short goodbye, Alex’s parents left. “Mrs. Warren, Barry called as they got into the car.
Nancy rubbed her temples against the back seat and shot Barry a warning look. “We confirmed that Ellie’s children are not Alex’s.”
Todd added, “From now on, keep a close watch on Alex. If he shows any doubts, make up a proper story”

Barry nodded respectfully. As the luxurious car drove away from West Suburb, the partition window lowered, and Nancy finally gave in to her emotions, burying her face in her hands and sobbing.
Todd’s face was equally troubled; all he could do was comfort his wife. “This is all Alex’s fault.”
Hearing Todd’s tone, filled with disappointment, only deepened Nancy’s sadness. “Darling, the Thompson family is taking advantage of our hesitation to act; they’ve outsmarted us.”
Todd replied, “Let our son take the blame; if he had shown Ellie even a bit of kindness, we wouldn’t be in this situation.”
“Let’s respect each other’s peace from now on and not disturb anyone’s life.” Nancy agreed with her husband’s sentiments. The couple returned to the Warren Manor, heavy–hearted.
Meanwhile, Alex, dressed in a dark robe, sat on the sofa, gently stroking a cat. Noticing the troubled expressions on his parents‘ faces, he approached them. “Mom, why do your eyes look so puffy?”
Seeing her only son with a neutered cat and recalling Ellie surrounded by her children stirred up a wave of sorrow in Nancy.
Unable to hold back, she blurted out, “At over thirty, what do you have beside this cat? As your Mom, how can I not cry over this?”
Alex, taken aback by his Mom’s sudden outburst, looked down at the cat resting in his arms and then fluffed his recently styled hair.
He moved to comfort his Mom, saying, “Mom, with my looks, finding a wife is just a matter of time; is that worth getting upset over?”
Nancy lamented, “The Warren family is no longer what it used to be; after serving time, what respectable girl would want you at your age?”
Alex reassured her, “Mom, don’t worry. If no girl wants me, I’ll just settle for a widow.”
