Chapter 272
Just past one in the morning at the Bondie Private Hospital, Ellie stepped into a VIP care room. Upon entering the living area, she greeted Jason and Mark.
In the room, a man with a proud posture sat in a wheelchair, his back to the door. Beside this man sat a woman–Haley- who had long been living under the guise of the Janssen family’s second daughter, Quinlee.
“You’re still alive?” Ellie exclaimed, her face filled with shock upon seeing Haley. She tried to approach Haley but was stopped by Jason.
“It has been a while, Ellie, Haley said calmly, her eyes locking onto Ellie’s. Haley moved to stand in front of Ellie, a faint smile curling her lips in response to Ellie’s astonished gaze.
“Please continue your conversation; I’ll step outside to make a call, Quinlee offered with a friendly smile before leaving the
room.
Still in shock, Ellie turned to Jason, unable to contain her curiosity. “Jason, how could she be here?”
Jason glanced at the man in the wheelchair and quietly suggested, “Let’s talk about this later. First, let me introduce.”
With Jason leading the way, Ellie followed Mark into the room. Jason chose not to approach the man in the wheelchair, who remained silent and still. “Ellie, this is my comrade, Orion Warren.”
It was hard for Ellie to believe that the man before her was Orion.
Mark lowered his voice to explain, “Mr. Warren is blind, disfigured, and suffers from severe post–traumatic stress disorder. Even I can’t get close to him; he only trusts his comrades and Quinlee, who brought him back.”
‘How could Haley have rescued Orion?‘ Five years ago, Ellie had confirmed that Quinlee was Haley, witnessing that malicious woman swept away by the flood.
Over the years, neither the Janssen family nor the Grant family, nor even the police could find her body.
To Ellie’s astonishment, not only had she survived, but she had also returned as Orion’s savior, coming back from the border with him.
Ellie wondered, ‘How has she been rescued with a spinal injury? Who has saved her? How has she made it to the border? Why has she crossed paths with Orion and become his savior?‘
A wave of questions surged in Ellie’s mind, but she kept quiet. Jason added, “I don’t trust anyone else. You will be Orion’s attending physician.”
Without hesitation, Ellie nodded in agreement. Her grievances with Alex had been settled when he was imprisoned five years ago. Given that Orion had once saved Jason’s life, she felt an obligation to help.
Jason said, “Aside from me, Mark, Quinlee, and you, no one else knows about this. Orion’s emotional state is very unstable; he strongly resists reuniting with his family and doesn’t allow strangers to approach him.
“To avoid complications, Orion will stay here and refrain from contact with the outside world until he has fully recovered. The three of you will need to sign a confidentiality agreement.”
Ellie exchanged a glance with Mark at the mention of the agreement. She suspected Orion returned with a significant Otherwise, Jason wouldn’t be so cautious, even withholding information from the Warren family.
Ellie said, “But Jason, Quinlee is Haley!”
Jason said, “We will talk about this later.”

Just as Ellie was about to ask further questions about Haley, Jason’s gaze silenced her. With Jason present, Orion seemed less resistant. Suppressing her curiosity, Ellie gained a rough understanding of Orion’s current condition alongside Mark.
His external injuries were mainly blindness and severe facial disfigurement. With a proper corneal transplant and enough time to recover, full rehabilitation was possible.
But the most pressing issue was his severe post–traumatic stress disorder, which, if not addressed, could affect him for life.
The three of them stayed awake through the night, and as Ellie and Mark left the room, dawn was beginning to break.
“You should go home and rest; come back later so we can talk about the treatment plan,” Mark suggested as Ellie finished the confidentiality agreement in the director’s office.
About ten minutes later, Ellie stepped out of the elevator. “Ellie,” a voice called from the hospital lobby; it was Quinlee. Stopping in her tracks, Ellie regarded Quinlee with a blank expression as she walked over.
A mere step separated the two women as their eyes locked. “I never expected to come back alive, did you, Ellie?” Quinlee said with a cryptic smirk on her lips.
Ellie replied fiercely, “Five years ago, I failed to cause your disappearance, and I will not let you slip away again. I’ll make sure everyone knows your true identity, and you will pay for what you have done.”
Quinlee stepped forward in her high heels, leaning in slightly as she lowered her voice. “Ellie, even if you turn the world upside down, I am still Orion’s fiancée, the second daughter of the wealthy Janssen family and the sister of Mrs. Grant.
“My identity is beyond your scrutiny.”
“Wait for your punishment,” Facing Quinlee’s provocation, Ellie shot back before leaving.
Quinlee stayed behind, smiling as she watched Ellie depart. Haley was dead, and the Owens family had been completely wiped out; she was the daughter of the Janssen family, Orion’s fiancée.
Before achieving her goals, she decided not to engage Ellie in a foolish confrontation. She had to seize this opportunity to acquire what that person desired, thus becoming Mrs. Warren. Once everything was settled, she could deal with Ellie.
Before 7 a.m., Alex strolled out his apartment, followed by several employees from a furniture company. He instructed Barry, “I dislike having neighbors; get in touch with the owner and make an offer to buy the apartment next my door.”
As the elevator doors opened, Alex prepared to step inside, only to see Ellie coming out with two large bags. Alex paused outside the elevator while Ellie stood still, and their eyes met, both clearly surprised by the encounter.
Unfazed by Alex’s scrutinizing gaze, Ellie emerged from the elevator. She had stopped by the new apartment after leaving the hospital to drop off cleaning supplies, not expecting to see Alex there.
Glancing at the next door, she saw a middle–aged woman and a young man exiting, letting out a sigh of relief.
Although Alex had moved on from their past, their shared social circle still remained. With her two children and her new identity as Orion’s attending physician, it was inevitable that their paths would cross again.
If Alex lived there, she would prefer to rent elsewhere rather than move in.
“Mr. Warren, should we buy the neighboring house before you move in?” Barry asked cautiously as they exited the ele or
“A neighbor could actually be quite good,” Alex replied, shifting his mindset from wanting to buy the property to suddenly seeing its benefits.
Barry thought to himself, “The charm of the little widow is indeed formidable.‘
