Chapter 274
When Ellie woke up, Alex was already gone. Before he left, the owner of the shop had given her a straw bet, vypy, it was a gift from the man who had been with her.
Ellic hesitated but accepted the hat. It was a wide–brimmed straw hat in a bright grass–green color, mergeruty benach with another layer of grass. A strange choice.
She looked up at the glaring sun overhead and put on the quirky hat, walking out of the market
“Where on earth did you find such an ugly hat?” Whitney exclaimed when Ellie got back to the Thompson residence. She took the hat from Ellie’s hand.
Ellie glanced at the hat, which was undeniably hideous, and tiredly replied, “I forgot my sunshade, so I just grabbed this
“Jason asked for you to come to his study,” Whitney said, pointing toward the stairs.
A few minutes later, Ellie knocked and walked into Jason’s study. He was working on a potted plant by the window and reminded her to shut the door.
“Jason, why is Haley alive and back with Orion? She even saved his life?” Ellie blurted out, desperate to know what was going on with Haley.
“The military has confirmed her identity and the details surrounding her arrival at the border, including her rescue of Orion,” Jason explained, laying down his pruning shears and looking at Ellie.
He said, “Your job is to treat Orion’s facial injuries. Other than that, try not to ask too many questions.”
Ellie said, “But Jason, Quinlee is clearly Haley. I personally cut her spine, and I watched her get carried away by the flood How could she possibly show up at the border just in time to save Orion?”
Haley had reappeared, boldly pretending to be Quinlee in front of everyone, including Ellie. Ellie couldn’t remain silent
about this.
“The less you know, the better.” Jason’s tone shifted to serious. “Stay out of matters that aren’t your concern. Your only duty is to heal the sick.”
The tension in the study became thick, and Ellie struggled to process Jason’s stern look. Opening her mouth hesitantly, she finally said, “Jason, Haley and I are sworn enemies.
“Even if I wanted to let her go, she would never do the same for me. Plus, I now have two kids–I have to look after their safety.”
“The risks you can see are minor compared to the dangers hiding in your ignorance. Stay focused on your job and be careful. You don’t need to worry about Orion or that woman,” Jason replied firmly, his expression serious.
“But Jason, what if she acts like she did five years ago? Back then, I had no weaknesses, but now I have two kids. I can’t put their lives in danger.” Ellie felt her emotions start to spiral out of control.
Jason insisted, “If I could, I would never put you in this position or make you Orion’s doctor. Do you get that?”
Seeing the absolute seriousness on Jason’s face, Ellie swallowed her words. After leaving Jason’s study, Ellie took a quick shower and lay in bed, thinking over his words again and again.
It was clear that Jason’s instruction for her to become Orion’s physician came directly from the government.
In other words, Orion’s return was something special. So, whether it was the fake Quinlee or the real Haley, keeping her must serve a bigger plan.

Chapter 274
Even though she, Mark, and Haley had all signed non–disclosure agreements, Haley was now living as Quinlee, the daughter of the Janssen family, eager to become Mrs. Warren.
Ellie thought, ‘With such an opportunity available, can Haley actually keep the Warren family from realizing that Orion has come back, and that she is the one who has rescued him?‘
After a nap until around four in the afternoon, Ellie got up, quickly ate a small meal, and barely spent any time with her children before rushing off to the hospital.
“I am Orion’s fiancée, not a caregiver. If she didn’t do a good job, then find someone else. I’m not a nurse; even if I wanted to help, I can’t do all this on my own.”
When Ellie entered the director’s office, she found Quinlee arguing with Mark, her emotions clearly all over the place.
“I’ll think about this; you can leave for now,” Mark said, dismissing Quinlee as Ellie entered. Quinlee glanced at Ellie before leaving the room.
“The nurse assigned to care for Orion got injured. Quinlee refuses to take care of him, so we need to find someone else,” Mark explained, sitting at his desk in a white coat, rubbing his temples.
He added, “The problem is that Orion is a special patient; even nurses need to go through evaluations and get approved before they can help.”
“Mark, let the higher–ups send someone. Frequent changes in staff could cause unnecessary risks,” Ellie suggested.
Mark looked at her and asked, “What about Linda?”
“Are you talking about the third daughter who was kicked out by the Janssen family and left without a place to stay?” Ellie hesitated.
Seeing Mark nod, Ellie fell silent. Linda was an adopted daughter who specialized in psychology. If she could be Orion’s dedicated nurse, her expertise would definitely help him recover from the traumatic stress of his wartime experiences.
After Quinlee was “back” to the Janssen family, Linda had somehow angered Quinlee and had not only been expelled from the family but also thrown out of Jinerity.
With no way to support herself and her studies left unfinished, she ended up at Jaslands, refusing help from Winnie, and had been working as a sales assistant at a pharmacy ever since.
Mark explained, “Winnie has always tried to help Linda, but she is so stubborn. She wants nothing to do with the Janssen family. A while ago, Winnie asked me to find a suitable role for Linda at the hospital.
“If Linda is good enough, she could stay on 24–hour standby in Orion’s ward.”
Over an hour later, Ellie and Mark laid out an initial treatment plan for Orion’s facial recovery, with Ellie volunteering to bring Linda to the hospital for work.
In the evening, Ellie hurried straight to the pharmacy where Linda worked. Looking through the glass at the bustling store, Ellie spotted Linda, a petite girl.
Her large, sparkling eyes were especially beautiful, and her smile was incredibly sweet. While Ellie was observing Linda, Alex was in the fancy car parked outside, staring intently at Ellie.
“Mr. Warren, Jerome and his son’s company is over there,” Barry said, trying to correct Alex’s sense of direction.
Seeing Alex still lost in thought, Barry continued, “Mr. Warren, during your absence, Jerome and his son used unethical methods to take most of the desirable projects from the Warren Group with this company.”
“Mr. Warren, what should we do next?” Barry asked.
