A hesitant knock broke the tense silence in Alpha Xavier’s office, and Cassandra stepped in. Her shoulders slumped as though the weight of her confession had drained her. She glanced between Alpha Xavier and me, her hands trembling slightly, before finally settling her gaze on
him.
“Alpha Xavier,” she greeted, her voice. barely steady as she nodded respectfully.
“You… you asked for me.”
Alpha Xavier‘ s narrowed eyes betrayed a hint of impatience. His voice was controlled but sharp with authority.
“Cassandra,” he began.
“Luna Raven tells me you have
information about Celeste. Is this true?”
Cassandra swallowed, giving me a fleeting

look, almost as if seeking reassurance.
“Yes, Alpha,” she whispered.
“It’s true. And I should have… told you.
sooner.”
Alpha Xavier‘ s jaw tightened.
“Go on. Tell me everything. And I mean. everything.”
Cassandra took a shaky breath, her fingers. twisting in her dress.
“It started a few months ago. Celeste came to me asking for certain herbs. She said they were for… her health, to help her conceive. I didn’t think much of it at first, but she came back, demanding herbs with effects that could… mimic pregnancy.”
She paused, glancing nervously at Alpha Xavier before continuing. “Irrestella and Falsiflora.”
Alpha Xavier‘ s face grew rigid, his jaw clenched as he absorbed the information, but he remained silent. Cassandra quickly

explained that she had initially refused, only for Celeste to persist, making threats if she didn’t cooperate.
“She threatened you?” Alpha Xavier‘ s voice was low, simmering with anger.
Cassandra nodded, her face paling as she glanced away.
“Yes. She told me she’d say I’d tried to harm her if I didn’t comply. I didn’t know what to do. She made me believe she was close enough to you to turn everyone against me if I didn’t give her what she wanted.”
Alpha Xavier‘ s fists clenched at his sides, his gaze dark and cold.
“So, Celeste lied to the entire pack. She pretended to carry my child to gain power.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Cassandra replied softly.
“I should have come forward sooner, but… I was afraid. I thought if she could lie

about this, she’d have no problem turning the pack against me.”
Alpha Xavier studied her for a moment,
and then he nodded.
“Thank you for coming forward now. You‘ re dismissed.”
With a final, regretful glance at me, Cassandra turned and left. Alpha Xavier‘ s face was unreadable, but his clenched fists and the tightening of his jaw betrayed his fury.
“This was… something I should have seen,” he muttered.
He straightened, inhaling deeply before turning to a guard stationed at the door.
“Summon Celeste,” he commanded.
“Tell her to come here immediately.”
The guard nodded and left quickly. I felt a surge of grim satisfaction Celeste‘ s deception was about to be exposed.

After a few minutes, the door opened, and Celeste entered. She smiled beautifully and confidently but faltered when she saw me. Celeste quickly composed herself and strode forward with her head held high.
“Alpha Xavier,” she greeted him.
“Is something wrong? I wasn’t expecting to be called here so urgently.”
Alpha Xavier’s eyes narrowed as he studied her.
“Celeste, when was the last time you had a prenatal check?” he asked.
A flicker of uncertainty crossed Celeste’s eyes, but she quickly masked it with a laugh, shaking her head.
“A prenatal check? Alpha Xavier, surely you don’t doubt me. I mean, look at me, and my stomach is growing. I am starting to show.”
Her tone was light, but I saw the faint tension around her eyes.

“Answer the question, Celeste,” he said, his voice low and commanding. “When did you last see a healer?”
Celeste’s smile tightened, but she managed to keep her expression composed.
“Alpha, there hasn’t been a need. I’m perfectly fine. I wanted to wait until… later when we could find out the gender.”
“Later?” Alpha Xavier hissed in disbelief.
“Celeste, you‘ re carrying the supposed heir of this pack and my child. You should have had a healer’s check immediately.
Celeste‘ s expression shifted, but she forced another laugh.
“Oh, Alpha, I simply didn’t want to make a fuss. I thought it would be best to keep things private to avoid drawing
unnecessary attention.”
“Private?” Alpha Xavier‘ s voice was sharper now.
“You thought keeping a pregnancy hidden

from the pack was best?”
“I only wanted to protect the child, Alpha. I was thinking of… our safety. I thought the fewer people who knew, the safer we would be.”
Alpha Xavier’s brows drew together. He looked irritated and didn’t want to listen to
all of Celeste’s excuses.
“So, you hid your pregnancy to… protect it? Do you hear how ridiculous that sounds? And as far as I remember, you were too excited to tell everyone that you were
carrying my child. Why the change of opinion?”
Celeste s confidence cracked slightly, but she quickly composed herself, her voice growing defensive.
“Alpha, I’m only thinking of the well- being of our future. I didn’t see the need for an immediate check when everything
was fine.
“Then you’ll have no problem going.

Uncertainty flashed in her eyes, but Celeste quickly swallowed it and lifted her chin.
“Of course, Alpha Xavier. I have nothing to hide. I am more than willing to undergo an examination.”
“Good. Because you‘ re going to have it done now. I’ve already summoned the head healer, and she will examine you to confirm your pregnancy.”
Celeste‘ s composure wavered, but she forced a smile.
“That’s perfectly fine. I’ve always been honest with you, Alpha. I have nothing to hide.”
He watched her before glancing to the door, where the healer Elara had just arrived.
“Elara… Celeste will undergo a full prenatal examination. I want you to

confirm her condition–now.”
Elara gave a slight bow.
“As you wish, Alpha Xavier.”
She turned to Celeste, her voice soft but professional.
“If you’ll come with me, we’ll proceed to the examination room.
Celeste straightened, giving Alpha Xavier one last, unwavering look before following Elara.
