Chapter 11
My gaze faltered for just a moment before I bent down, picking up the diamond ring, examining it carefully under Jayden’s hopeful stare.
It was identical to the one on Amara’s finger.
I tossed the ring back into the box with a flick of my wrist, my voice cold and steady. “Jayden, we’re adults. Let’s not make this uglier than it needs to be.”
“You know me. I can’t put up with nonsense.”
“I never keep things that are tainted- whether it’s an object or a person.””
The light in Jayden’s eyes dimmed.

He lowered his head, gripping the diamond ring tightly, his fingers squeezing it until they were pale, the sharp edges digging into his skin.
Blood began to drip, drop by drop, following the lines of his palm.
Bronx pulled me close, his arm wrapping protectively around my shoulders as he turned to face me, his voice cold and resolute. “Lyn. There’s no point in talking to someone like him. Let’s go, it’s been a long day and we finally get a break. We should treat ourselves to a nice meal.”
I could feel the jealousy in his eyes as he glanced at Jayden, but I only smirked in response, a mischievous gleam lighting up my expression. “Alright, I’ll follow your lead.”
“Lena!”

Jayden’s angry shout echoed from behind us, raw with desperation.
He was still kneeling on the ground, his eyes bloodshot and wild, as if he were about to lose control. “You know what’s going on!”
“I was just trying to make you jealous! There’s nothing between me and Amara!”
“I’ve apologized! I’ve repented! What more do you want from me?”
I paused for a moment, feeling Bronx’s concerned gaze on me, but I lightly traced my fingers over the back of his hand to reassure him.
Turning back, I faced Jayden from above, my voice calm but firm. “I gave you chances.”

“I once wanted to marry you.”
“But during the six months you hesitated after buying the ring, you were with Amara, enjoying each other’s company. What were you weighing?”
Jayden’s lips trembled as he tried to find words, his voice faltering. “I can explain…”
He mumbled to himself, almost in a daze. “It was just a moment of novelty, a fleeting impulse…”
I let out a quiet laugh–gentle, but lacking any warmth. “Jayden, when I loved you, I tolerated everything about you.”
“I tolerated your bad temper, your immaturity, and your foolishness.””
“But I don’t love you anymore.”

Jayden’s face drained of color, his lips trembling as he struggled to hold back tears. “I don’t believe it. You’re lying…”
“You’re just angry, right? We were about to get married, we were about to get married!”
“Does your mom know? Isn’t she the one who wanted us to marry quickly?”
“Lyn, let’s go get our marriage certificate tomorrow, let’s get married. I’ll give you everything, I was wrong, I really was. Please, please give me another chance. I’ll love you the way you deserve.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, but they weren’t for him.
Jayden, seeing the glimmer of emotion in my eyes, believed he’d found a glimmer of hope.

He looked up at me, his face full of desperate hope.
But he didn’t realize that the tears in my eyes were for my mother, not for him.
I shook my head, my voice gentle but final. “Jayden, it’s too late.”
“That night, after you hung up, I called you three more times.”
“You didn’t pick up.”
“That day, my mother passed away.”
“I can never love you again, Jayden.”
Jayden staggered, his jaw clenched tightly as he gripped his collar, gasping for air like a fish on the verge of death, kneeling before
- me.

I didn’t spare him another glance. Taking Bronx’s hand, I turned and walked away.
