Chapter 70
The sudden sound of the ringtone snapped back Sandra from her reverie. She glanced at the familiar number on the screen and immediately swiped left to reject the call.
However, the phone rang again insistently. It seemed the other end had not given up.
Her WhatsApp was flooded with messages.
[Mom, my hand really hurts. Please come here immediately!]}
[Sandra, Adam kept acting up and I can calm him down. Please, come here quickly!]}
[Regan is upset. I understand that. I’ll go and apologize to him tomorrow. He can hit me or yell at me if he wants. I’ll do whatever it takes. After all, it’s all Adam’s fault for being too stubborn.]
When she read Morgan’s insincere, manipulative words, for the first time Sandra felt a wave of disgust wash over her. How had she been so blind?}
Back then, he had told her that his mother was seriously ill and that she yearned desperately for him to have a child. He had cried and called himself a useless and disrespectful child since he didn’t even have a girlfriend. Since he was her best friend in college, she foolishly agreed.”
At the time, she had only wanted a child of her own, someone who was her flesh and blood but she did not want to disrupt her life. Morgan had promised, no, he even sworn, that once the baby was born, he would raise the baby alone and never interfere with her life or marriage.
However, as time passed, things slowly spiraled out of control. When Adam got sick and hospitalized, or when Anna and Adam’s birthday, time and time again, she had been unable to stay away.
After a long time, Sandra sat up straighter. She had made up her mind. She had been too impulsive today. She should have trusted Regan. She would apologize and beg for his forgiveness.
She would send Anna and Adam back to Filici Country, and, apart from providing basic financial support, she would cut ties with them completely.”
Without hesitation, she sprang into action. She contacted her lawyer to prepare the transfer of shares back. She would take back the villa she had given Morgan and she would also sell the car through a dealership.
She needed to settle everything as fast as she could while Regan was still angry. That way, when he returned home, he wouldn’t be mad anymore. This way she could return to the way she was before with Regan.}
When Morgan showed up with the two children, Sandra was hanging her wedding photo with Regan back on the wall.
With a disapproving frown, Morgan sighed and lamented, “Sandra, every couple fights and yet, how can he keep using divorce as a threat?”
Sandra lowered her eyes and looked down at his indignant and righteous face with an unreadable expression. Then she asked, “Do you really think she is just threatening me?”
Morgan studied her face carefully. He was delighted finding that she seemed to be asking for his opinion.
He then said, “If that’s not a threat, what is it? He wrote up a divorce agreement, tore down the wedding photo and disappeared. Isn’t this just a classic case of playing a damsel in distress?”
