Chapter 10%
Shane was already in the driver’s seat, watching Justin kneel on the ground with an icy stare.
“If he wants to use his life to beg for your forgiveness,” Shane said coolly, “then let’s see if his life is strong enough to survive it.“} Justin didn’t even blink. “Do it,” he shouted, his voice raw. “This is what I owe Lara. If my life is the price, then so be it!“}
I sucked in a sharp breath, stepping back instinctively. Then, a loud bang tore through the air. In the blink of an eye, Justin was hit. His body flew through the air before slamming onto the pavement with a sickening thud.
Silence followed. Shane, despite everything, still had some restraint, he hadn’t killed him. But Justin was left barely hanging on, slipping into a coma that lasted three months.}
When the hospital finally called to say he was awake, I walked into his room, Shane by my side, divorce papers in hand.}
A lot had changed in those three months. Shane had finally told me the truth. He had been in love with me for years.
Since my graduation ceremony, when he first saw me on stage, something had shifted inside him. But because of our complicated relationship, he never dared to say it.
Not until my dream, one he remembered too, shook him enough to finally speak up. He realized then how unbearable it would be to live live a life full of regret, knowing he never tried.§
So this time, he chose differently. Instead of watching from the sidelines, he put his heart on the line.
And when the time was right, he confessed. And I… chose to give him a chance.}]
When Justin saw us walk in, our hands intertwined, his entire body stiffened. For years, I had done everything to win him back. So of course, he couldn’t believe I had finally let go.
But the moment it sank in, that Shane and I were really together, the light in his eyes dimmed. And for the first time, Justin had nothing left to say.
I didn’t say anything else. I just left the divorce papers behind and walked away. A week later, a package from Justin arrived.
Inside was the signed divorce agreement, a document transferring all his shares in Stokes Group to me, a carefully repaired amulet… and a long letter.
I kept the first three.
The letter? I crushed it into a ball and tossed it in the trash without a second thought. Then I turned and headed downstairs. Shane was already waiting, dressed and ready to go. Today, we were heading to Mali Island for a well–deserved break. The future was wide open and there was no way I was wasting a perfect spring day dwelling on the past.
