Chapter 3
I was indeed the clown, wasn’t I?
We’d known each other for years, yet I was clueless about their affair.
I remembered how Laura and I used to mock Zach’s lack of romance. I had thought she was on my side, concerned that Zach wouldn’t take good care of me.
It seemed she was subtly showing off, telling me she knew Zach better than I did.
She probably didn’t expect me to be so oblivious, never suspecting her.
But I couldn’t figure it out—if she loved Zach, why did she never fight for him and remain friends with me?
I leaned against the wall until I felt better and then went straight home.
After scheduling an abortion online, I packed up and checked into a hotel.

I had nowhere else to go.
My mother, like me, had poor health and
died from a massive hemorrhage when she gave birth to me.
My father remarried later.
At first, I was well–fed and clothed. But then, my stepmother had her own children.
I started doing all the housework and eating leftovers, only eating well when my father was home.
Back then, my father still cared for me. Knowing I wasn’t eating enough, he often gave me pocket money.
Later, I was sent to a boarding school.
The time I had a high fever, my teacher called my parents to take me to the hospital.
“We have little kids at home. I’m afraid he
might infect us. It’s better not to let her come back this weekend.”

I cried to my father, but he indifferently said, “Don’t be so dramatic. Why don’t you know how to consider me and your
stepmother? It’s just a fever. Just take some medicine.”
From that day on, I knew my father had changed.
I once thought I would never get married until I met Zach.
He always put me first. Even a small cut would make him want to rush me to the hospital.
After many minor matters, I gave my heart to Zach. Unexpectedly, in the end, he still discarded it ruthlessly.
I touched my stomach.
I didn’t want my child to go through this pain.
The following day, I went to the hospital.
Because of my poor health, the doctors required me to be admitted for an

examination first.
Zach somehow found out I was there for an abortion and quickly found my ward.
At that time, I was sitting on the hospital bed, looking at the sunset outside the window.
I couldn’t help but think of the time when we were on our honeymoon, watching the sunrise and sunset by the sea.
The sunset was as beautiful as it used to be.
Zach sat down next to me and looked up at the sunset.
“I’ve noticed that the sunset hasn’t changed after so many years. It’s still so beautiful.”
It wasn’t until the sun had set entirely that I couldn’t help but sigh.
Zach patted me on the head. “In the future, I…”
I interrupted him, “The sunset hasn’t changed, but the people watching it have.”

Zach didn’t respond.
“How many years have you and Laura been together behind my back?” I asked him.
He just remained silent, saying nothing.
“She’s also pregnant with your child,” I said indifferently. “Zach, let’s just end it. Let me go and let this child go.”
I felt my heart was torn apart in pain.
The child in my belly seemed to sense my emotions and kicked me gently.
When I had the ultrasound, I saw this cute little thing. It already had little hands and feet.
It curled up quietly in my belly, wholly dependent on me.
For a moment, I even thought about giving birth to it and raising it alone.
But thinking of my mother’s tragic death, I quickly hardened my heart.
I would rather never bring it into this world

than make it suffer.
Zach stood up, emotionally agitated. “No way! Nora, you are mine. The child is also mine. I won’t let you leave me. Rest assured. I won’t let Laura have that child. I’ve also found the best obstetrician for you. She will definitely keep you and our child safe.
“Come back with me, please. Please don’t abort it. I promise I will stop having affairs with other women. You and the child will always come first to me.”
