Chapter 5
It’s been over half a month since I arrived at the camp, and every day has been packed with tasks.
This area is behind the frontlines of war, and as a doctor without borders, we primarily provide aid to civilians suffering from the ravages of war.
Most of the patients here are children.
When I first arrived, I was at a loss. Not long ago, I had just lost a child of my own, and suddenly finding myself surrounded by so many war orphans, all scarred and hollow–eyed, I didn’t know where to begin.
Tavius, without any reservation, shared everything with me–from patient

communication, diagnosis, treatment, to psychological rehabilitation. He taught me everything with no secrets.
Gradually, we became more in sync.
In the ward, we took on the roles of the “good cop” and “bad cop” and the children affectionately called us the “Black and White Angels.”
In the operating room, we were comrades working seamlessly together, snatching one innocent life after another from the clutches
of death.
Watching the children’s pure, innocent smiles, I could feel the wounds in my heart slowly starting to heal.

bloom by the roadside. I thought of you, so I brought these.”
Tavius handed me a delicate bouquet of starflowers, clearly not something he had picked from the roadside.
I didn’t take it, because I remembered the meaning behind starflowers.
“I bring you a sky full of stars, but still feel that they fall short of you.”
“I can’t accept these flowers.”
I said softly and, using my rounds as an excuse, quickly left.
These days, Tavius had been bringing me things from time to time–sometimes snacks, sometimes flowers–always items that were hard to come by in the war zone.

Just then, my phone rang, interrupting my thoughts, and I hurriedly answered.
“Aunt, what’s going on?”
“Estelle, I’m sorry to bother you. I didn’t want to, but Derick is being really annoying.”
At the mention of his name, I felt no emotion at all.
“What’s he doing?”
“He came to the hospital asking where you are. He’s already affecting my work. Estelle, please talk to him and tell him clearly!”
I dialed the familiar number, my eyes cold.
“Derick, what exactly do you want?!”

“You’re upset because you lost the baby, and I understand that, but how can you just leave like this? How can you be so heartless?!”
I had seen this type of behavior before–the Villain complaining first–and it was truly disgusting.
I didn’t want to talk to him any longer, but he kept pushing.

At that moment, Tavius knocked on the door, his expression tense.
“Estelle, we have a new patient, and I need you to take a look”
Upon hearing a stranger’s voice, Derick instantly exploded.
“Who is he?! Estelle, how dare you cheat on me behind my back?!”
I laughed bitterly with rage, glaring at him.
“Cheat on you? Derick! Do you think I’m as shameless as you? You cheated on me with Fariza, got her pregnant with your child, and said you were going to divorce me and marry her. Now you’re here pretending to be all sentimental?”
“I’ll say this one last time: If you continue

bothering my aunt, or if you don’t sign the divorce agreement, I will post the evidence of your affair online. Let’s see how your family business handles the scandal!”
Ignoring his stunned expression, I hung up the phone without hesitation and let out a long breath.
A glass of warm water was placed in front of me, and Tavius looked at me with deep
concern.
I shrugged indifferently, forcing out a bitter smile.
“This is my supposed–to–be–dead
ex–husband. Who knew he’d come back from the dead!”
Tavius hesitated for a moment, then slowly reached out and lightly patted my shoulder.
