Chapter 6
After that day, Tavius was even more tender with me.
Aside from occasionally bringing me small gifts, he would also brew medicine for me during work breaks.
He said he wanted to help me restore my health, so I wouldn’t suffer any lingering illness.
When he said this, there was no hint of condescension, only a deep, protective affection.
But the truth couldn’t stay hidden forever. Word of my divorce and miscarriage spread through the camp, and whispers began to swirl around me.

Tavius never looked down on me. In fact, he even set aside his usual gentleness to reprimand those gossiping behind my back.
He was a good man, but I had been hurt too deeply and couldn’t take that step forward.
I thought life would continue peacefully like this.
But then, Derick showed up at the camp, asking everyone he met where I was.
I was in the middle of an important surgery when he suddenly barged in, shouting crazily.
“Honey, I’m sorry! Please forgive me!”
He had truly lost his mind, trying to pry the scalpel from my hand.

Thankfully, Tavius acted quickly. He knocked
him out with one swift move and threw him out of the operating room.
Two hours later, the surgery was completed successfully.
Tavius led me to a room where Derick was tied up tightly with ropes on the bed.
“Honey, who is this man?! What right does he have to tie me up? I’m going to sue him for assault!”
I walked up and slapped him hard.
“Shut up! How dare you say anything? If it weren’t for him stopping you in time, you would’ve killed someone!”
“Estelle, how could you hit me? You never

used to be like this!”
Derick shot a venomous glance at Tavauss
“It’s him who turned you into this, right?! Didid you sleep with him? You dirty slut!”
“Derick, you’re the trash here, don’t go pointing fingers at others!”
My neck flushed red with rage, and I couldn’t catch my breath.
Tavius stepped in behind me, his voice low and restrained with anger as he spoke.
“Please, don’t slander the relationship between Estelle and me.”
“Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Tavius, and I’m pursuing Miss Estelle.”

I couldn’t remember how I left the room, only that Tavius gently told me to wait outside.
“I need to talk to Mr. Presley about some things, Estelle. You can wait outside.”
I wandered aimlessly around the camp, the distant sound of shelling in the air.
Groups of curious people gathered,
gossiping about me.
“Did you hear? Dr. Allen’s ex–husband just stormed into the operating room!”
“He’s such a jerk, he almost killed the patient!”
“By the way, Dr. Leonard seems to have had a fight with that ex–husband!”
I hurried back to the ward, afraid of what I

Tavius was sitting on the floor, his face. bruised and swollen, smiling foolishly at me.
“He’s gone, don’t worry.”
“Your face… Did that bastard lay a hand on you?!”
My heart tightened in pain as I knelt in front of him, gently touching his wound.
“It’s nothing, he didn’t get away unscathed either. I had to take out my frustration on him for you. Estelle, can I ask for a reward?”
I shot him a glance and pressed on the injury, causing him to wince and beg for
mercy.
I couldn’t help but laugh, and the small ache

in my heart vanished without a trace.
He was always like this–thoughtful and gentle, never wanting me to worry.
“Estelle, are you free tonight? I want to take you somewhere.”
Tavius winked at me, and I couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
That evening, as the night fell, Tavius led me up a hill behind the camp, pulling me to lie among the ruins.
“This is my favorite secret spot. From here, you can see the whole sky clearly. Don’t you think it’s beautiful? Just like Van Gogh’s Starry Night.”
Following his hand, I looked up. The sky was filled with shimmering stars, dazzling and

Tavius gently took my hand, caressing the star bracelet on my wrist.
“Estelle, I know you like stars, so I brought you here.”
“You’re like the stars–pure, and deserving of all the beauty in the world.”
“So, don’t dwell on the past. Walk forward with me, okay?”
