Chapter 6
After getting the divorce certificate, I stormed to the roadside, ready to hail a cab.
Nill’s car screeched to a stop in front of me. “Where to? Let me give you a ride.”
“I just divorced Dante.”
“So?” His voice was flat, unaffected.
“So, we’re done. No reason for us to cross paths now.”
He smirked, flicking his sunglasses down, revealing eyes that seemed to pierce right through me. “Selina, I helped you get that divorce. You’re really just going to walk away like that?”

I crossed my arms, staring him down. “What are you really after, Nill? Business?”
He grinned, leaning back. “Now that the company’s yours, I can trust you with a deal.”
My interest piqued. “The Willson Group? What’s in it for me?”
Nill leaned in, his tone suddenly sharp. “I want to make sure it’s you in control, not that useless cousin of mine.”
“You think I can’t handle the company alone?”
“That nephew’s a trophy, nothing more. He plays dress–up in boardrooms. You? You’re the brains behind it all.”
“Fine, what do you want from me?”

“The contract’s right here.” He tossed it onto his lap casually.
“Hand it over.”
“I’m driving, Selina. My hands stay on the wheel.”
I grabbed the edge of the contract, my fingers brushing his leg. The contract felt heavier than it should.
“All these clauses… Fair, right?” I whispered, looking up.
I closed the contract with a snap. “Nill, let’s be real. You’re offering a hell of a deal. What’s the catch?”
“You’re the one in charge. You handle this project, and we’re good.”

“Me? Personally?”
“Who else?”
“Fine. I’ll take care of it.”
He pulled out a pen from his jacket pocket and handed it to me. “Sign it, then. This partnership’s going to be big.”
I took the pen, signing the contract with a swift stroke. He smiled, almost predatory.
“To celebrate this moment,” he said, his voice smooth. “Let me take you to dinner.”
I didn’t argue. “Sure. Why not?”
He parked in front of a Thai restaurant. I stopped, staring at the sign.
Nill raised an eyebrow. “Something wrong?”

“I… haven’t had Thai food in years.” My voice was quiet, almost lost in the noise around
- us.
He chuckled. “Well, now’s the time to change
that.”
I forced a smile, the memory of Dante’s refusal to try new things haunting me for a second. “Fine. Let’s eat.”
The dinner was quick, our conversation. flowing easily. The plates piled up, and Nill’s voice cut through the air with a steady rhythm, but his eyes never left mine.
When the meal ended, and the night deepened, I was ready to head home. But as we pulled up to my house, a figure caught
my eye.

Dante.
He was sitting on the doorstep, his face pale and cold, eyes locked onto me. He looked up as soon as he saw the car.
“Selina,” he said, his voice hoarse with something I couldn’t place. “You’re back.”
I didn’t move. Nill’s hand hovered on the steering wheel, his gaze flicking between me and Dante, waiting for something.
Dante stood, his voice trembling. “Please, we need to talk.”
I turned my head, forcing my words out. “No, Dante. We don’t. Not anymore.”
