Curious, I walked over and was surprised to see Summer standing downstairs.
“He’s here to pick you up, right? Your fiancé is so nice to you.”
I forced a polite smile, not feeling the same way, and gathered my things to go. downstairs.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, surprised.
Summer scratched his head. “I shouldn’t have gotten physical with you last night. I was too anxious.
I stared at him, speechless. In the months since Margot’s arrival, our relationship had

become strained. Summer had never once thought he was in the wrong. He’d either blamed me for being petty or for being unreasonable.
This was the first time he had apologized.
I thought about ending things amicably, so I didn’t want to argue.
I did, however, explain myself briefly, “I didn’t mean to give Zoe the beef burger. She insisted she could eat it, and I texted Margot to ask, but she never replied.”
When Summer heard this, his face darkened.
Before he could say anything, Margot appeared, holding Zoe in her arms.
“Summer, has Nicole forgiven you?” she asked sweetly.

Zoe wrapped her arms around Summer. “Uncle, I want orange juice.”
“Is Zoe thirsty?” Summer knelt down and gently gave her some water.
“Nicole, yesterday Summer was just too upset. Don’t be mad, he cares about Zoe” Margot said, standing next to him.
“I’ve already spoken to him. Nicole definitely didn’t do it on purpose. He wouldn’t believe. me, so I dragged him here. It’s good to talk things through.” Margot smiled at me, looking pleased with herself.
I felt like I was going deaf–I couldn’t understand a word she was saying.
“Did you make him come here?”

“Yes, Summer is shy. If I hadn’t pushed him, he probably wouldn’t have come.”
I let out a cynical laugh.
No wonder he came back to apologize–it was all Margot’s doing.
“I don’t need it.”
I turned to leave, but Summer grabbed my
hand.
“Don’t be ungrateful. Margot and Zoe don’t blame you, and you’re still trying to shift the blame onto them. What are you trying to do?”
I jerked my hand free. “I’m not trying to do anything.”
“Nicole, Summer has already apologized. How can you still be so unreasonable?”

Margot stepped in to criticize me.
“What does our issue have to do with you?”
Zoe charged at me, pushing me. “You’re a bad woman, you’re a bad woman!”
I stepped back, but Zoe fell to the ground, crying loudly, “Bad woman, bullying me!”
“Zoe, don’t cry. It doesn’t hurt,” Margot rushed forward, scooping her up, tears in her eyes.
Summer grabbed my hand tightly. “What are you doing? Why have you become so unreasonable?”
He yanked me away and, holding Zoe in his arms, walked off with Margot.
I stood there, frozen at the bus stop, filled with regret.

Regret for coming to this unfamiliar place, all for a man.
I was sitting at the entrance of Summer’s apartment complex when it hit me: aside from him, I had nowhere else to go, no family or friends.
“Margot’s not blaming you anymore. Can you stop being so stubborn?” Summer suddenly appeared, his voice filled with impatience.
“We’re waiting for you to eat. Let’s go,” he said, his tone clipped.
I stood up silently and followed him back.
The moment I opened the door, I couldn’t help but sneeze.
There was a bouquet of flowers sitting on

the entryway table.
I covered my nose and mouth instinctively, asking, “Why are there flowers here?”
“They’re from uncle,” Zoe said, proudly wrapping her arms around Summer’s neck. “You, bad woman, don’t have any flowers.”
I stared at Summer in shock.
He knew I was allergic to pollen.
