Chapter 11
I didn’t hesitate. I turned and walked away, ignoring Summer’s calls behind me.
I blocked Summer’s number, and some clueless old classmates tried to mediate for him.
I posted the reasons for the breakup on my social media and eventually changed my number.
But I never expected Summer to find me again.
There he was, standing outside the school gate, holding a suitcase, looking like he’d been waiting for ages, his hair windswept.
When he saw me, he instinctively raised a

smile, then quickly lowered his head.
“Nicole.” Summer walked up to me, taking a deep breath before opening the suitcase in his arms. His tone was full of excitement. “I’ve bred flowers that won’t cause allergies- your favorite irises.”
“Congratulations,” I said flatly.
Summer’s face wavered. “Aren’t you happy?”
I asked, “This is your thing. It has nothing to do with me.”
“It does have something to do with you,” Summer said, his voice rising with emotion. “I grew them for you. Smell it–really, they won’t cause any allergies. I kept my promise.”
“Impressive.” I glanced at the sturdy iris

plant. I could tell he’d put effort into it.
Summer let out a breath of relief. “Can we get back together? I know what I did wrong. I promise I’ll never make the same mistake again.”
I shook my head.
“Are you still hung up on Margot? I swear, there’s nothing between us. I kicked her out, and we haven’t been in contact since,” Summer pleaded, his voice desperate.
I knew. Peter had sent me a message later, saying he had divorced Margot.
Because Margot had tricked him into marriage, she didn’t get much of the property in the divorce. She ended up leaving with
nothing.

Margot had nowhere else to go, so she returned to her parents‘ house with Zoe.
Peter had hired people to spread the word about Margot’s scandal in her hometown. The Cummings family, once proud of Margot’s marriage to a city man, now had their reputation destroyed.
Margot’s sister–in–law hated her and demanded she leave with the child. But Margot, instead of taking Zoe with her, abandoned the child at her parents‘ house and ran off herself.
Peter thanked me for informing him, so he wouldn’t have been fooled his whole life.
Truthfully, I was just using him.
Margot had targeted me repeatedly. At first, I endured it for Summer’s sake, but my

parents didn’t raise me to tolerate others‘ mistreatment.
“Nicole, are you still mad at me? I swear I’ll treat you better. Please forgive me for the last time.” Summer reached for my hand.
“What do you want to do with my wife?” A deep, magnetic voice rang out from behind Summer.
I stepped aside, and a man appeared in front of me.
“Hubby.” I smiled at the man.
He walked up and took my hand.
Summer stood frozen, staring at us with
wide eyes, unable to process what he was seeing.

“What… What’s your relationship?”
I turned slightly to face the man, flashing my left hand at Summer. The ring on my finger sparkled. “Allow me to introduce. This is my husband, Ross Pierce.”
“I’m married now. Please leave.”
“Why aren’t you wearing gloves?” Ross frowned as he held my hand and placed it in his coat pocket, then offered me a crystal iris. “For our first anniversary!”
I smiled and accepted it, sensing he was deliberately ignoring Summer.
I stood on my tiptoes and kissed Ross on the cheek as he slightly bent down. “Let’s go home.”
“Nicole…” Summer’s face turned pale.

I lifted the crystal flower in my hand and said calmly, “The flowers my husband gives me are all allergy–free. I don’t need yours.”
I walked past Summer with Ross, ignoring his presence.
The wind seemed to carry a faint sound of sobbing.
Or maybe it was just my imagination.
The End.
