Chapter 10
Edward cared deeply about our wedding, paying attention to every detail himself.
During the day, he ran between the office and the wedding venue.
At night, he sat in the living room, carefully writing out the invitations.
“Edward, you can just leave these things to your assistant. You’re already so busy with work. There’s no need to stress over these details.”
I stood at the top of the stairs, holding a cup, and called out to Edward in the living room.
He put down the pen and smiled at me, “No matter what it is, I want to give you the best.

“I know you might not feel the same way about me, but I’ve always kept you in the highest place in my heart.”
The moment our eyes met, I was briefly stunned. My heart, which had been numb for so long, fluttered for a moment.
“Ms. Buckley, please don’t feel burdened by this.
“Just be a beautiful bride.”
Edward still smiled, but the emotions in his eyes could no longer be hidden.
In the end, I smiled back and nodded.
But I never expected Gregory to find me in Gerelden.
Edward and I had just stepped out of the fitting room after trying on our wedding dresses when we saw Gregory standing under the camphor
tree across the street.
He was wearing a simple white shirt, his hair messy, his face pale, with no trace of light in his eyes.
His gaze lingered on the hand I was holding with Edward for a moment before quickly shifting away.
Gregory smiled bitterly and looked at me. “Katherine, I’ve come to take you home.
“We don’t need to wait until early next year. Let’s go back and remarry, okay?”
With that, he took a few steps closer to us.
Edward instinctively moved to stand in front of me, but I stopped him.
I straightened his slightly crooked tie and softly said, “Wait for me in the car.
“I’ll be back soon. Mom made your favorite for dinner. Let’s go home together later.”
Edward looked down at me, smiled slightly, and replied, “Okay”
He cast a brief glance at Gregory and then walked toward the garage.
Now, only Gregory and I were left by the roadside.
He instinctively moved closer to me, but I calmly took a few steps back and gently said, “Mr. Chapman, let’s keep some distance between us.
We wouldn’t want the paparazzi to catch us.
“Then, there will be rumors on social media that I’m deliberately clinging to my ex–husband.”
No matter when society was always harsher on women.
Alice’s incident was a perfect example. It was Gregory who couldn’t weigh things properly from the start, yet in the end, I was the one blamed for not being magnanimous.
“Katherine, I…
Gregory’s gaze darkened with a bitter smile.
“I’ve already sent my assistant to handle the issue on the platform. I’m sorry you had to go through this.
“I didn’t know you were dealing with so much. I didn’t know…”
“Gregory, you know, I looked at him, speaking in a calm tone.
If he truly understood how much public opinion could hurt and lead to depression, he wouldn’t have chosen to divorce me just to help Alice.
In my past life, I was framed for cheating with several male models. After the divorce from Gregory, my reputation was destroyed, my career tanked, and everyone seemed to find joy in my misery. Some even came up to me and said, “Katherine, after what your ex–husband did to you,

how can you still have the courage to live?
“If it were me, I would have jumped from the 18th floor.
“Forget Mrs, Chapman. Gregory never cared about her. Otherwise, how could he have pushed her to the edge like this?”
After that, I suffered from sleepless nights, staring out at the city lights from my floor–to–ceiling windows.
I burned my art studio.
I burned all the things Gregory had given me, as though burning them would erase him from my heart.
I was venting all the injustice I had suffered.
I hated that the young man who once filled my heart and mind could push me to such a dead end.
In the end, I slit my wrists and tried to end it all.
I still remember the feeling of my blood slowly draining away.
