Chapter 12
He arrived in Gerelden early in the morning.
After his assistant found Katherine’s whereabouts, he had come straight to see her without rest.
But when he saw her laughing and joking with Edward, who was wearing a wedding dress, he paused.
He stood there under the camphor tree, staring at them, unsure when it had become so rare to see Katherine smile so brightly. Every time they met, it was because of Alice, and they would fight. Slowly, he stopped going home. He either stayed late at the office or drank all night with
Arthur and the others.
At that moment, he understood it clearly.
The words Katherine had said at the courthouse were sincere.
She didn’t want him anymore.
But he couldn’t live without her.
He didn’t know how long the two of them had been busy in the bridal shop, but he had stood there for just as long.
He even thought about rushing in to beat Edward up and warn him, “Don’t even think about it. She’s my wife.”
But in the end, he didn’t take that step.
He was afraid Alice would hate him.
“Gregory, Katherine’s been gone for a while.” Alice tugged at his sleeve, bringing him back to reality.
He looked down at her, his voice hoarse. “What are you doing here?”
“I… I heard Katherine’s getting married to someone else.
“I was worried you’d be sad, so I came to check on you.”
She spoke softly, and then tried to hug Gregory. But he frowned and placed a hand on Alice’s shoulder.
Her eyes welled up with tears. “Gregory…
“Katherine doesn’t want you. I want you. Let’s get married too, okay…?”
Gregory had never refused any of her requests.
She thought that once Katherine divorced him, she could smoothly become his wife.
But now, Gregory’s face immediately turned cold. “Alice, do you even know what you’re saying?”
“I know.

“Gregory, I love you.”
It was the first time she had confessed her feelings so directly.
But Gregory only smiled weakly, his face turning pale. He laughed, and then tears began to fall.
Arthur had warned him countless times.
“Alice’s eyes are full of mischief. If you don’t want your marriage destroyed, I suggest you send her away.
“Gregory, you’re too close to the situation to see what Alice is really after.
“Send Alice away. Don’t let her ruin your marriage.”
But he never believed it, not even once.
He deserved it.
