Chapter 2
My father quickly tried to smooth things
over.
“Let’s eat, let’s eat. Homer must be hungry, let’s start with the meal.”
I wasn’t sure if Homer was just humoring my father or what, but he drank a lot with him.
“You should slow down a bit,” I said, pouring Homer a cup of tea.
Homer leaned close to my ear and chuckled softly, “Are you worried about me?”
I turned my head and pushed him away. “You’re drunk.”
But he grabbed my hand, his eyes blurry as

he smirked. “Don’t make me angry.”
Seeing him like this, a chill ran down my spine.
“Can’t even eat properly, and still acting like this–don’t you know the occasion?” Isana snapped, throwing her chopsticks down.
“Homer’s drunk? Wynette, help him back to the room to rest. I’ve already prepared your room,” Yamila said, walking over, clearly
afraid that her daughter might anger Homer. “Isana, go help your sister.”
Isana was reluctant at first, but when Yamila gave her a look, she hurried over and helped me support Homer back to the room.
After we helped him onto the bed, Yamila called me from the door.

“Wynette, come help me prepare some juice.”
I glanced back at Homer, who had his eyes closed and was deeply asleep.
“What could happen at home? Besides, your sister’s here, so what’s there to worry about?”
Yamila pulled me out of the room.
I looked back and saw Isana’s barely hidden excitement.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on him.”
Isana giggled as she pushed me out the door.
My father was still talking up a storm at the dinner table.

“Your dad’s in a good mood today, he never drinks this much usually,” Yamila said with a laugh.
We entered the kitchen, and Yamila looked around, puzzled. “How strange, we’re out of vinegar. Wynette, could you go to the supermarket at the gate and grab a bottle?”
I stood at the door holding a bottle of vinegar, knocking for the fourth time, but no one answered.
I pulled out my phone and called my dad, but it went unanswered.
After a moment, I dialed Homer’s number.
It rang once before being hung up.
The next morning, the door opened, and Yamila stood there, looking at me squatting

on the ground in shock.
“Wynette, why are you sleeping outside? Didn’t you come home last night? If you weren’t coming home, you should’ve said something. I was about to go out and look for you.”
I ignored Yamila’s sarcasm, threw the vinegar on the table, and walked straight to the bedroom.
Isana was lying naked on the bed, Homer beside her, equally undressed.
I coldly watched Isana leisurely put on her robe, walk over to me, and smugly stroke her neck as she said,
“Did you see that? Homer was really passionate with me last night. He even said you’re boring in bed. He’s only interested in

your face, just playing around with you.”
I furrowed my brow. “He’s your future brother–in–law.”
“You said future brother–in–law,” Isana raised an eyebrow, “who knows what will happen later? Maybe he’ll end up being your brother–in–law instead.”
I grabbed Isana and pushed her out, locking the door behind me.
“Get out!”
Isana pounded on the door. “You’re the one who should leave. This is my house. You get out.”
I was trembling with anger when a pair of large hands wrapped around me from behind.

I tried to break free, but the hands tightened, almost choking me.
“Are you mad? Don’t listen to her nonsense. As long as you’re by my side, how could I possibly look at anyone else?” Homer whispered into my neck, his warm breath sending shivers through my body.
“I’m happy when you’re like this. It means. you still care about me. Please, don’t be mad, okay?” Homer kissed my earlobe. “Let me tell you something–when a man’s drunk, he can’t get it up.”
I felt something shift behind me and froze, not daring to move.
After a while, Homer’s breathing steadied, and he turned to get dressed. I glanced at the condom he had tossed carelessly on the

floor, then turned away.
