Chapter 102: Soundproof
JULIA
“Nothing happened.”
“Believe me, Evan.”
Those words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop themt.
I could still feel Dean’s hands on my body and hear his disgusting words in my mind. It all felt like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
I tried my best to push him away, but he still managed to less me, making me feel as disgusting as he was.
And at that moment, the night when I went to the party came back to my mind.
It became vivid all of a sudden.
For a long time, I had been denying I was a victim–especially since I didn’t even know what truly happened.
However, that didn’t take away the fact that I had struggled because of it–so much to the point of giving up.
I didn’t want to experience it all over again. I feared that Evan wouldn’t believe me.
“Nothing happened,” I repeated, my voice trembling. “I swear, Evan, I didn’t let him-
Evan’s arms tightened around me, cutting off my words. He kissed the top of my head, his lips warm and reassuring against my skin. “I believe you,” he said. “I believe you.”
Those three words seemed to calm my mind.
“Julia, I’m so sorry.
I froze, my breath catching in my throat. “What?”
He pulled back slightly, his hands cupping my face as he looked into my eyes,
His own were filled with regret, a pain so deep it made my chest ache.
“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you back then,” he said, his voice breaking. “I was immature and stupid, and I let my pride get in the way. I should’ve trusted you. I should’ve protected you. I’ll never forgive myself for that.”
Tears spilled down my cheeks. “Evan…”
“I believe you now,” he continued, his thumbs brushing away my tears. “Everything you’ve ever told me, everything you’ve ever been through–I believe you. And I’m so sorry it took me this long to say it.”
“And I will continue to believe you from this day forward; even if you doubt me, I still will.”
I couldn’t speak. My throat was too tight. Instead, I buried my face in his chest, letting his warmth and his scent surround me.
The sound of footsteps made me look up.
Sarah stood in the doorway, her eyes wide as she took in the scene. “The doctor said Andy can go
She stopped abruptly, her gaze going back and forth between Evan and me. “What happened?” “Dean,” Evan merely responded. Sarah’s face twisted into disgust. “That fucking lunatic. I knew he had something up his sleeve. I just thought he wouldn’t do anything because we were in his workplace. He is such a

“Let’s go,” Evan said. He scooped me into his arms before could protest, not letting me go. “What about my car?” Sarah asked, trailing behind us as Evan carried me down the hallway.
“Rui will take care of it,” Evan replied without missing a boat.

“Can Rui take care of me, too?” she joked, and I let out a so chuckle, causing Evan to look at me with bright eyes.
We reached his car, and he carefully set me down in the passenger seat, his hand lingering on mine for a moment before he closed the door. Sarah, who was carrying Andy, went to the backseat. He was peacefully asleep now, and his fever had thankfully gone down.
As Evan slid into the driver’s seat, he glanced at me, his expression softening “I’ll call a doctor over for Andy in the morning,” he said. “Just to make sure he’s okay.”
I managed a small smile, my heart filled with gratitude. “Thanks,
Evan”
He nodded, his hand squeezing mine before he started the car. The drive to his house was quiet, my fear slowly fading away as the city lights blurred past the windows.
Evan’s hand never left mine; his touch was a constant reminder that he was here and he wasn’t going anywhere.
When we finally arrived at his house, Sarah let out a low whistle. “Dang,” she said, her eyes wide as she took in the sprawling mansion. “On second thought, I might be rooting for him now with this house. If you do get together, can I live here?”
I rolled my eyes, but a small laugh escaped me. “Sarah…
She grinned, shifting Andy in her arms as we followed Evan inside. My little boy was still asleep, breathing steadily. I reached out to take him, but Sarah shook her head.
“It’s alright,” she said, tightening her hold around him. “I’ll take one for the team. I’ll take care of him.
I blinked, surprised. “Huh?”
Sarah turned to Evan, her grin turning mischievous. “Do you have a room that’s a bit far away from yours? Just so I couldn’t hear anything.”
I frowned, still confused about what Sarah was talking about.
“Or maybe a soundproof one?” she asked.
“Oh, wait! The two of you need to be in the soundproof one.”
My eyes widened, my face flushing with heat when I finally realized what she was insinuating. “Sarah!” I exclaimed.
Evan chuckled as he pointed toward the room. “Down the hall, second door on the left,” he said, his tone amused. Sarah winked at me before heading down the hallway, Andy still cradled in her arms.
I stared after her, my face burning, before turning to Evan. I’m so sorry about her.”
He smiled, his hand reaching up to brush a strand of hair from my face. “Don’t be. She’s just looking out for you.”
As I looked into his eyes, I thought that Sarah’s suggestion might not be too bad.
“Hey,” I muttered, shyly looking down at my feet.
