Chapter 93 Joint Project
Chapter 93: Joint Project
JULIA
1 definitely wasn’t prepared for this version of him.
Evan sat there, his hair catching the sunlight streaming through the floor–to–ceiling windows. It was lighter, a warm, honeyed brown that blendled with his natural dark tones. It softened his sharp features and made him look more approachable.
And damn it, it made him even more handsome than he already was.
“Fuck.”
The words slipped out before I could stop them. My brain short–circuited for a moment, and I blinked, trying to process the change.
Evan with lighter hair? Since when did he care about things like that? Since when did he even have the time?
He pursed his lips, appearing shy. “Ah, right,” he muttered “I nearly forgot.”
“Rui dyed it,” he said. “I told him to make it blonde, but I think he brought the wrong box. The dude on the cover was blonde, though.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed. The image of Evan, the billionaire mogul who could buy an entire hair salon without blinking, sitting in a chair while Rui–his ever–loyal but scatterbrained assistant with a box of hair dye was
much
as too
“You need to bleach your hair if you want to go blonde,” I said, shaking my head. “But this is okay. You look… good.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them.
His shy smile was replaced with a smirk. Then, he took a step closer.
“What was that?” he teased. He leaned in, his face inches from mine, and I could smell the faint scent of his cologne–something woodsy and expensive. “Say it again.
I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool, but my heart was racing. “Don’t push it, Evan.”
He chuckled, “You’re blushing, Julia.”
“I am not,” I shot back, but my traitorous cheeks burned even hotter. Gosh, why did he have to be so him? We weren’t even on the best terms yet. We’d talked, sure, but there was still so much unresolved between us.
Before I could say anything else, the door swung open, and a familiar figure stepped into the room.
My jaw dropped.
“Sarah?!” I exclaimed, staring at my best friend as she froze on the entryway. “What are you doing here?”
She looked just as shocked as I was. “Julia? What are YOU doing here?”
We spoke at the same time, our voices overlapping. “Work!”
Sarah blinked, her eyes darting between me and Evan. “Wait, this was where you were going today?”
I nodded, still trying to process her sudden appearance. “Yeah, but what about you? Since when did you work for
the Astors?”

She waved a hand dismissively. “I don’t. I’m here with Sir Heath. He’s my boss. He said it was a collaboration.”
My stomach dropped. “Heath? As in Heath?”
Sarah nodded, glancing over her shoulder at the man who had just walked in.
Heath strode in with a smirk that rivaled Evan’s.
“Julia,” he said, sounding amused. “Fancy seeing you here.
He reached out and patted my head like I was a puppy. “This project just got a whole lot more interesting.”
I swatted his hand away. “What are you even doing here, Heath?”
Before he could answer, Evan stepped forward, his expression darkening. “Rul,” he said. “I told you to find another company for the mass production of the collection
Rui, who had been quietly observing the chaos from the corner of the room, shrugged. “They’re the best, Evan. Fastest too.”
Evan let out a deep breath, massaging the bridge of his nose
Meanwhile, I still couldn’t believe it.
“Heath is your boss?” I whisper–shouted to Sarah.
“Yes,” Sarah said. “The competent one I keep telling you about. The one you were originally supposed to have gone on a blind date with!”
Even though we spoke in hushed tones, the two men still butted into our conversation.
“You’re the one who set her up on a blind date?” Evan asked.
Heath sighed in disappointment. “I shouldn’t have gone on that business trip. When was that blind date supposed
to be again? A month ago? The two of us should have been together by now,” he said to me.
“Wait, wait,” Sarah said, raising her hands in the air. “Now, how do the two of you know each other?”
Heath turned to Sarah. “Your friend likes me.”
“I do not,” I snapped, crossing my arms over my chest.
Evan’s lips twitched, and for a moment, I thought he might smile. But then Heath leaned in, his voice teasing. Come on, Julia. Admit it. You are into me.”
“In your dreams,” I shot back.

Sarah, who had been watching the exchange with growing confusion, finally spoke up. “Ah, this is so confusing! How small is the world for all of us to meet at this moment?”
“The world wants the two of us together,” Heath said, brushing my hair away from my face.
Evan held onto his wrist. “Heath, you’re pushing it,” he said through gritted teeth.
I groaned, pinching the bridge of my nose. “Can we not do this right now?”
The room erupted into chaos. Evan and Heath started arguing, their voices rising as they traded insults like kindergarteners.
“Stop bickering!” I exclaimed, but they didn’t listen.

Rui sighed, shaking his head like a disappointed parent. “What a complicated sight,” he muttered. Sarah grabbed my arm, pulling me aside. “Let them,” she giggled. “I need some entertainment.”
“She’s interested in me,” Heath said.
“She loved me,” Evan retorted with a smirk.
“Past tense,” Heath smirked. “I don’t think that’s something to boast about.”
I opened my mouth to tell the two of them off, but before I could get a word out, the door opened again, causing the room to turn quiet.
This time, it was Mr. Miyagi.
The moment he saw the chaos inside the office, he stopped confusion seen on his face. Then, a wide smile appeared on his lips.
“Oh, this seems fun! What were you talking about?”
