I arrived at the amusement park first, with Rui trailing behind me like a lost puppy.
The place was already full of life–kids running around with balloons, couples holding hands, and the screams of thrill–seekers from the not–so–kid–friendly rides.

“There you guys are,” she said with a sigh. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

Just then, Heath arrived, and I let out a deep sigh.
“You really came,” I said with a subtle scowl.
Heath smirked, adjusting his sunglasses. “Can’t miss it. I want to see my future son.”
I gave him a sarcastic smile. “He’s my son.”
Heath ignored me, his attention shifting to something or someone–behind me. “Oh, and speaking of, there’s my future wife!”
I turned, and my breath instantly caught in my throat.
It was none other than Julia.
She was walking toward us in a white sundress, the kind that made her look like she’d stepped out of a dream.
Crap. Sundresses. Every man’s weakness.
Her hair was messy, tousled by the wind, and her lips were glossy, catching the sunlight. She was… pretty. No, not just pretty. Stunning. Beautiful. Ethereal. Celestial.

To her side was Andy, excitedly chattering away. Julia was smiling down at him, her laughter carrying over the noise of the park. It was a sight to behold, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

I turned to see Heath holding up a ridiculously large stuffed bear with a smug grin on his face. Andy was beaming, clutching the bear like it was the greatest thing he’d ever seen.
Julia laughed, shaking her head. “You’re spoiling him.”
Heath shrugged. “What can I say? I’m good at this.”
I clenched my fists, my competitive side kicking into overdrive. If Heath thought he could outdo me, he had another thing coming.
“I’ll win you a better prize,” I said to Andy, but he looked skeptical. I pursed my lips and went to where they were, trying my luck on the machines.
“How hard can this be?” I muttered, inserting a token and getting to work. I pressed the button over the car plushie that Andy liked.

The claws finally grasped onto it but fell at the last second.
