1 rolled my eyes and pushed him away. “You and your word” I said, but of course, his statement made my heart skip a beat. Just Imagining a forever with Evan was enough to make me go crazy.
Well, in the end, Evan failed to keep that promise, too.
Till death do us part, my ass.
“Do you have anything else to say, Dad?” he asked, sounding more annoyed than before. His tone snapped me out of my daydream.
I looked at him and felt a pang in my chest. He looked so much like Andy–a harsh reminder of the reality we were in…
Evan sighed and massaged the bridge of his nose. “Anything that does not concern heirs?” he repeated.
“Nothing?” he asked. “Then, I’m going. I’m busy.”
With that, he turned off the call and glanced at me. I tried my best to focus on the canvas, but it was no use. The paintbrush couldn’t even touch the material anymore.
“Julia.”
Evan called my name.
I lifted my head, but for some reason, as I stared at his face, Andy was the one I saw.
The same Andy who asked to meet his dad for his 6th birthday–an innocent request that meant the world to me.
And silly me, I agreed to his request.
I knew I should have listened to Sarah despite her plenty of bad advice and unwise decisions. However, she was right when she said that I shouldn’t have agreed right away.
Now, I have to face the consequences of my actions.
“Julia?” Evan repeated.
I cleared my throat and took a step back. I nearly stumbled once more, and I saw how he tried to get to me. Fortunately, I caught myself this time, so I didn’t need his help.
“I’m fine,” I said, though my voice betrayed me in the end.
I cleared my throat and looked into his eyes. “I’m fine,” I repeated.
It sounded like I was convincing myself more than him, though.
He frowned in confusion. “What are you talking about so suddenly?”
I sighed and grabbed my phone from my pocket, looking at the time. I let out a deep breath before putting it back
- in.
“I have to go now,” I said, grabbing my things,
Evan’s frown deepened. “But you’ve only been here for less than an hour. Can you even finish the project at this point?”
I snapped.

“Why won’t you ask your girlfriend to help then?” I asked. “I don’t see her here, do 17”
That shut Evan up–thankfully. I didn’t know if I could take hearing his volce again at this moment.
“Anyway,” I said. “I’m going.”
I was about to leave when he suddenly held onto my wrist, using me to halt. I turned to him with a slight glare.
There was a shift in his eyes, but it was gone before I could put a name to it.
“Is everything okay?” he asked, much softer than I imagined.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, you’re suddenly in a bad mood,” he pointed out. “It looks like you want to ask me something, too.”
I pursed my lips. How could he know me so well even after all these years?
I looked at him intently, and Andy’s request echoed in my mind once more.
Should I?
Even after he said all those words to his dad, should I tell him?
opened my mouth to speak. It began to move before I could comprehend it.
“Are you free-”
However, before I could finish my statement, the door opened, causing me to jolt away.
“Evan
“Julia? What are you doing here?”
