Something You’d Regret
EVANDER
“Eleanor,” I whispered, staring at my sister.
Julia’s eyes widened as she looked at her.
It was still surprising, but for some reason, I felt relieved it wasn’t Heather.
“Pulling out the government name when you’re startled?” Elle asked before turning to Julia once more. “Now, care to answer my question?”
Julia pursed her lips and simply nodded at Ellie before leaving the art room, leaving my sister and I alone.
Ellie’s frown deepened as she watched Julia’s retreating figure. Once she was fully gone, she turned to o me and raised one eyebrow.
“So, what was that all about?” she asked.

I sighed and massaged the bridge of my nose. “What are you doing here? I thought you hated this place.” “Don’t get me wrong,” Ellie said, grimacing as she looked around the room. “I wouldn’t come here if I had a choice. But Dad is pestering me to go to that party with Mr. Miyagi. He told me you still hadn’t closed the deal.” I let out a deep breath. That was another problem of mine,
“So, you came here to tell me to fix it?” I asked.
“Yup,” Ellie said, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “You know I don’t want anything to do with dad’s business anymore. I’m happy where I’m at. However, it seems like he wants my help because Mr. Miyagi wants a more “art–inclined‘ conversation. Leave it to Dad to call the artist, a.k.a. the black sheep of the family, during matters like this.”
I shook my head. “I’ll handle it,” I said. “The party isn’t even until next month anyway.”
“Yeah, but he’s bothering me about it already,” Ellie muttered. Then, the look in her eyes changed, making me gulp. She pointed a finger at me and narrowed her eyes.
“Now, it’s your turn to answer my question. What is Julia doing here? You’re not trying to seduce her again, only to leave her in the end, are you?”
My frown deepened, finding the situation ridiculous.
“What are you talking about?” I grumbled. “She’s just back in the city.”
“I know that,” Ellie said, and now, it was my turn to become suspicious.
“How did you know that?”
Her eyes slightly widened, but she composed herself pretty fast.
“I saw her once,” she said, clearing her throat.
“And you didn’t tell me about it?” I asked with a frown.
She placed her hands on her hips. “Why would I tell you?” she deadpanned.
I sighed in frustration. The conversation wasn’t going anywhere. It was clear that the two of us were siblings by blood. We both had stubborn personalities..

“To answer your question,” I said, steering the conversation. “She’s here because she’s partners with Heather on this art project.”
Her face twisted into pity. “Oh, poor Julia,” she said. “Not only is she stuck with someone like Heather, but she also has to deal with you.”
I sighed and shook my head. “What are you insinuating?”
“Nothing,” she said with a shrug. “Just–If I were in her situation, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
“Is that all you have to say?” I asked, already feeling tired of her.
She rolled her eyes and stepped back. “Whatever. Go ahead and live this fantasy with Heather,” she muttered. “Ellie,” I said in a warning tone, making her raise her hands in surrender.
“I got it. It got it,” she said in a defensive tone. “I won’t say anything bad about your girlfriend anymore. In fact, I wish that you two have the best lives!” she exclaimed.
“After this, though, leave Julia alone. I know she has already been through enough,” she mumbled the latter sentence, so I wasn’t able to understand it.
“You’re acting as if I’m the one at fault here,” I said.
Ellie sighed and looked into my eyes, looking as serious as ever. “Look–I don’t know the full story, but from what I’m seeing, you don’t know it too. I think we both don’t have the right to say who’s at fault or not here.”
“But then again,” she added with a chuckle. “It has been far too long since the two of you had broken up. There are no lingering feelings, right?”
I took just a tad second too late to answer.
“No,” I said, but it seemed like Ellie wasn’t convinced.
She took another step back. “I’m serious, Evander,” she said. “Don’t hurt Julia
again.‘

I bit my lip.
“I saw how close the two of you were when I entered. That’s not something you do with someone you don’t care about anymore,” she softly said. Somehow, although her tone was softer, it had more impact than her previous words.
“I know,” I said. “She just slipped–that’s all. There’s nothing to it. After this project, we’ll be back to where we are.”
“Strangers.”
Ellie scoffed, looking unconvinced.
“Don’t lie, Evander,” she said. “I know that look of yours. You were hurt by Julia. You still haven’t told me how or why, but I know what you want to do.”
‘You want to hurt her too,” she continued, looking into my eyes like she was reading my mind.
I pursed my lips, knowing she was right–even if I wasn’t conscious of it.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked, raking my hands through my hair. “Didn’t you say you don’t want to meddle with my personal matters anymore?”
“I did say that,” she said with a chuckle, looking down at the ground. “But now that Julia’s involved, I can’t just

stay still.”
I scoffed in disbelief. “Of course,” I muttered. “You liked her out of all my other relationships.”
“I won’t deny that,” she said. “However, aside from that, just want to warn you.”
“Wam me of what?” I asked, feeling frustrated.
“Of your actions,” she said, sincerity seen in her eyes.
“I just hope you won’t do something you’ll regret in the end.”
