Chapter 36: Too Many Things To Do
JULIA
I opened the door to our humble apartment and was immediately bombarded with a tearful hug.
My eyebrows furrowed as I looked at my little boy, hugging my thigh.
“Mommy,” he sobbed. I pursed my lips to keep my own tears at bay. I knelt down to his level and pushed his hair away from his face.
“Andy,” I muttered. “It’s okay now. Mommy’s here. She’s not going anywhere anymore.”
“Mommy, I was worried,” he cried into my neck.
“I know. I know,” I said, hoping my words would comfort him. However, it seemed to make him cry even harder.
“I don’t want to lose you, Mommy,” he softly said against my neck. My skin was wet from his tears, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
“You’re the only one I have,” he added, making my heart break further.
“Of course,” I said with a small smile. “I’ll always be here, hmm? Mommy won’t let you go…ever.”
I tightened my hold around him, not wanting to let him go However, the moment was interrupted by Sarah barging in, her phone next to her hear, appearing to be talking with someone.
“No freaking way,” she said, then her eyes widened when she saw me and Andy by the doorway.
“Alright, alright. I’ll call you back. I have something important to do first,” she added before turning off the call.
I sighed and carried Andy, letting him hug me. He had gotten heavier now but I didn’t mind at all. In fact, it made me feel a bit melancholic, knowing he was growing faster than I had anticipated.
“Well, it seems like you’ve missed me,” I remarked sarcastically.
“I did!” Sarah exclaimed. “I was worried sick! Andy and I haven’t been able to sleep.”
Just then, I heard the sound of light breaths against my neck. That was when I knew that Andy had fallen asleep.
I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. “Well, it doesn’t look like it with the way you were gossipping on the phone.”
“I assure you that it’s important. Bring Andy to his room first, and then I’ll tell you all about it,” she added.
I narrowed my eyes in suspicion but did as she said. Andy needed to rest, too, after a long night like that.
I carefully closed the door and turned to face Sarah. “Now, care to tell me what’s happening?” Lasked.
“Honestly, I should ask that question first,” she said. “What the heck happened?”
“You’ve done it again, Sarah,” I said. “That David something guy is the worst one out of all the ones you’ve set me up with He drugged me and tried to take me home. If only Evan…”
Her eyes widened. “Evan? Did you just say, Evan? What the heck? What does he have to do with this story?”
I pursed my lips. Me and my mouth. I blurted it out loud before I could stop myself!
“Answer my question first,” I said, my face probably flushed.
She raised one eyebrow. “Alright,” she smiled. “But you’ll tell me right after. You don’t have a choice.”

I sighed and merely nodded.
“David has been fired!” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe it. The day has barely started, and he’s already gone?”
I frowned. “How is that possible? How did your company know so soon?”
“That’s what I want to know!” she exclaimed. “My co–workers don’t know who the first complainant was. However, more and more women had come out to testify against him. It seems like he’s infamous for this, but they’ve been silent out of fear because of his high position in the HR team.”
“That’s strange,” I muttered.
“Yeah,” she said. “I really am sorry for setting you up with him. I promise I’ll research more about your future dates.”
“There are no more future dates,” I said with resolution.
“But-,” she tried to argue, but I held up my hand in finality.
She sighed and caved in. “Alright,” she muttered. “No more dates.”
Just then, her eyes narrowed, and she pointed her finger at me. “Now, it’s your turn! Why is Evan a part of this story?”
I let out a deep breath. It seemed like I had no choice but to continue the story. “Well, he was the one who saved me? Technically? I don’t know. He must have visited Asturia and found me there.”
“Oh,” she said. “Then, he took you home?
I nodded. “I was drugged–way out of my mind. I also couldn’t let him take me here since he’ll find out about my address.”
“Still,” she said. “You should have called me.”
“My phone was dead,” I explained.
“Figures,” she sighed. “You should really charge your phone before you leave the house.”
“Yeah, lesson learned.”
“Well, did something happen? Did you go moaning his name in your sleep again?“”
“Sarah!” I exclaimed with warm cheeks.
“What?” she chuckled “As you said, you were drugged. Something must have happened.”
“Nothing happened,” I said with a sigh. “He led me to his guest room, threw money at my face in the morning. and left without saying goodbye.”
“Oof,” she said, flinching at the thought.
“Besides,” I added. “He’s with Heather.
i will ever happen now, and that’s the end of it.”
She raised both eyebrows. “You look like you’re not happy
What are you talking about?” I asked
“You’re as dry as a desert. Maybe, getting laid

“Sarah,” I sighed. “Didn’t you hear what I just said? He’s with Heather. I’m not a homewrecker”

“Fine, fine,” she said.
“And much more than that, I’ll focus on Andy more now. He’s getting older. I want to be there with him for every milestone. I don’t even want to miss a second,” I continued, my mind going back to the way Andy hugged me a few moments ago.
“Speaking of Andy,” Sarah chimed, steering the conversation. “Did you take the opportunity to at least invite him to his party? It’s getting near now.”
I froze. “Crap,” I cursed.
She shook her head. “You still up for that doppelganger idea?”
I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. “Goodness. What am I going to do?”
“Oh,” she continued. “I also saw a post on your university page. Your deadline for that artwork for Mr. Matthews has been moved to tomorrow.”
“What?” Lexclaimed.
Sarah chuckled and shook her head. “I wish I could help you, but I draw worse than a disabled duck.”
There were too many thoughts running in my head that I couldn’t even laugh at her joke.
She walked over to where I was and placed a hand on my shoulder.
“You truly have a lot on your plate.”
