Chapter 37: She Found Out
EVANDER
I skimmed through the second art–related book in my hand. Mr. Miyagi just confirmed that the meeting would be during the party next month, so I needed to familiarize myself with such terms before the time came.
My peaceful reading was interrupted when Rui came in, a confused look on his face.
I let down my reading glasses and looked at him with one eyebrow raised. “What’s with that look?” I asked.
He scratched the back of his neck. “It’s weird,” he said. “I didn’t get any vibes from her.”
My frown deepened. “What vibes? And from who?”
“From your friend, Julia.”
I sighed and shook my head. “She’s not my friend.”
“Well, whatever she is. She’s quite…different. You know how I’m afraid of women, right?”
I let out a soft chuckle. “Yeah, you’ve mentioned it plenty of times.”
“I wasn’t afraid of her–Julia. She just seems really kind,” he said, a small smile appearing on his lips.
“So what?” I asked, turning my attention back to the book You fell in love with her in first sight or something?” “No,” he said, frantically shaking his head. “You know I can never be in a relationship like that, sir. I am dedicated to my work. However, the only women in this world I’m comfortable with are my mother and sisters.” “I think they might have caused your trauma,” 1 muttered, feeling slightly amused.
“Aside from that,” he chimed. “Even if I did like her, I don’t think it would work. I think she has a boyfriend.” My gaze left the book once more. I cleared my throat and placed it on the table, crossing my arms in front of my

I gave said. him a look, and that was his sig I to elaborate on what he had lu
“She received a call in the car a while back. She called him “baby,‘ and I think she sounded really concerned.”
I clicked my tongue, focusing back on the book. “It’s not like I asked.”
Rui pursed his lips. “You indirectly did, though,” he muttered
“You’re saying something?”
He cleared his throat and shook his head. “No, sir.”
“Well, let’s not talk about her anymore. Instead, go over the documents regarding the deal with Mr. Miyagi. Make sure there aren’t any loopholes and that the benefit is better than that of our competitors.”
“Yes, sir,” Rui said, bowing before leaving the room and going to his own office,
I sighed and continued reading the book. My frown deepened with every paragraph. This was truly something I couldn’t fathom. Stock trends and trading were much easier than these art terms.
Just then, the door opened, revealing none other than Heather. She appeared angry, with an annoyed look on her usually sweet face.
I set the book down and stood, looking at her with cur

“Heather?” I said. “I thought you had another shoot.”
“It was canceled,” she said. “However, I didn’t come here for that. I came here because I heard that Julia came to my apartment when I wasn’t there?”
I pursed my lips.
Rui, really.
He was deathly afraid of women, especially Heather, to the point he’d tell her anything if she used even the smallest amount of emotional force.
“It was for your project,” I calmly explained. “She was already there when you canceled. I just wanted you two to finish the project as soon as possible so we wouldn’t be concerned with her anymore.”
Heather chuckled, shaking her head. “Then, how about yesterday? I heard you met her again.”
I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath. Just how much did Rui tell her? I saw him from the transparent glass and noted the apologetic look on his face. He even gave me a peace sign as if that would compensate for his blabbing mouth.
‘She was in trouble,” I said, running my fingers through my hair. There was still a suspicious look in her eyes.
“Look,” I muttered, walking over to her and placing my hands on her hips. “I promise–nothing happened. I just did what a normal human being would do in the situation. Rui took her home, and we didn’t get to interact right after.”
She still looked hesitant. Then, she gazed into my eyes. I saw tears welling up in them, and I felt bad.
“It’s not because you still care for her, right?” she asked, ber hand clutching onto my collar.
I pursed my lips before shaking my head. “No,” I said. “It’s not because of that.”
She sighed in relief, a small smile appearing on her lips. “That’s good,” she muttered. “However, I still don’t appreciate your interactions like that.”
“I know,” I said. “Your project is nearly done, right? I haven’t been able to see it
yet.”
Heather merely nodded. “Yeah, it’s all taken care of now. I don’t need to call her to my apartment anymore.”
“Hmm,” I hummed “That’s good news then.”
She giggled and looked up at me, her eyes already dry. “You still have to make it up to me,” she said in a flirting tone, placing her finger under my chin. “Do you want to go to my place right after? Or should we go to your apartment?”
I pursed my lips. “I’m sorry,” I said. “The party with Mr. Miyagi is nearing, and Rul and I are busy with the preparations. I have to oversee it myself to make sure I secure this deal.”
The frown returned to her face.
“But,” I quickly added. “Your special day is coming soon, right? I heard Dad talked to you about it already.”
”
“He did,” she smiled. “He’s paying for all of it! He also told me that he’s going to prepare a surprise for me.”
“A surprise?” I asked, my brows raising
“Hmm,” she nodded. “I keep pestering him to tell me what it is, but he won’t budge.”
“I’ll try asking.” I said

“How about this,” I added, taking a step back. “Pick any gift you want, and I’ll buy it for you, hmm?”
Her eyes brightened like a little kid. “Really?”
“Yeah,” I nodded. “It’s my way of making it up to you.”
“Then,” she said. “Can I invite more people to my party?”
