Chapter 49: Forever and Ever
EVANDER
I didn’t know what I was doing there.
I hadn’t been able to sleep all night. Yesterday, I was supposed to propose to Heather. However, that was all thrown out of the window the moment Julia confessed we had a child together.
Heather had been in shambles. My parents still wanted to continue the engagement. Meanwhile, the Maisons were highly disappointed. However, I couldn’t proceed with the engagement when my mind was still torn.
At first, I didn’t believe Julia. How was it possible?
But then, she looked so sincere that before I knew it, I was here.
I had taken a day off from work. I had also turned off my phone since my relatives, especially my dad, had been calling me nonstop since I left yesterday night. I could still hear his shouts from when I entered my car.
“Continue on with the engagement with Heather!”
“What was that lowlife doing in this party? Did you invite hier, huh?”
I didn’t respond to him, knowing my words would just aggravate the situation.
So, I decided to escape for a while.
Now, standing in front of the humble resort, I felt my heart race in my chest. It had been a while since I felt such a way. The last time was when I saw Julia again after so many years. However, that was more because of perplexity and not nervousness.
I could hear the commotion inside, prompting me to move even faster.
I entered, and I could see Julia kneeling on the ground, consoling a small child.
And then, everybody turned their attention to me, their eyes widening in surprise. My gaze first went to Julia, who looked like she had seen a ghost. However, not long after, my eyes shifted to the small boy next to her.
My breath caught in the back of my throat. My heart raced even faster that I was afraid I was going to have a heart attack.
“Andy,” I muttered, instantly recognizing him.
I tuned out all the noise, my focus just on him.
All of the doubt had left my body. This boy was mine. I just knew it. Even when I first saw him, I thought of how scary it was that he looked just like me. Now, it all made sense.
Julia wasn’t lying after all.
I cleared my throat, glancing at all of the guests, before bowing my head in respect.
“Pardon for being late,” I said, feeling slightly awkward.
They were still silent. With that, I took it as an opportunity to look at all of them. Julia’s parents, whom I hadn’t seen in years but still felt familiar with due to their service to my family, looked at me with tearful eyes.
Meanwhile, Julia’s relatives, whom I haven’t met in real life but heard the atrocities of from Julia herself, looked like they couldn’t believe I was a real person.

There were some kids who were oblivious to the drama and other unfamiliar people.
To the side, there was Sarah, Julia’s good yet deranged friend. And then, next to her, was Ellie, my sister. I frowned, wondering what she was doing there. She turned away to avoid my gaze.
Just then, the silence was broken when Andy spoke.
“Mommy,” he said in a soft voice, yet I heard it clearly. “Is be…?”
Julia pursed her lips. It seemed like she was asking me for permission. I nodded, and with that, she nodded at the little boy.
I didn’t miss how his face lightened up. It was a picture I’ll probably remember until the day I die. Then, before I knew it, he was running toward me. My eyes widened, and Honestly, I didn’t know what to do.
For a long time, I didn’t want kids because I was afraid I was going to be like my dad. So, of course, I felt awkward as the young boy stared up at me.
However, with his smile, the ice in my heart quickly melted
“Mister,” he tentatively said, afraid to call me by my real title. I smiled and kneeled down at his level. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“Hi, Andy,” I said, my voice coming out shaky. “Happy birthday ”
His eyes brightened up even more, even brighter than the right stars.
“C–Can I give you a hug?” he suddenly asked.
I smiled and nodded. “Of course,” I muttered. Then, he wrapped his arms around me, light as a feather. I could feel his hesitation, but at the same time, the embrace felt so warm that I couldn’t help but close my eyes.
I could hear Julia’s family’s whispers..
“That’s Julia’s ex–boyfriend? You didn’t tell me he was so handsome.”
“Is he really the father of Andy?”
“It’s obvious, though. They look just like each other.”
“I can’t believe it. He’s wearing all designer. You can’t tell me that someone like Julia managed to have a partner like him.”
“Julia’s pretty, though.”
“What do you mean? I’m prettier than her.”
I shook my head, tuning them all out.
“My wish came true,” Andy suddenly said, pulling back slightly.
“Hmm?” I hummed.
“Even if I didn’t get to blow the candle,” he continued, fiddling with his fingers. “My wish came true.”
‘Mommy kept her promise.”
With the mention of Julia, I couldn’t help but raise my head. She was looking at the two of us, her eyes sparkling with tears. Something about how she gazed at us tugged at my heartstrings. However, I had to push it in the back of my mind.

Aside from that, I could feel someone’s glare. I glanced to the side and saw Sarah and Ellie staring at me with disappointment. I shook my head and decided to focus on my son for now.
“Mister,” Andy called once more, capturing my attention.
“You’re back for good now, right?” he asked, the innocent question shattering my heart.
“Because that was one of my wishes, too,” he smiled.
“I wish that you would stay with us forever and ever.”
