Chapter 57: His Comfort
JULIA
Time seemed to slow down as Evan held me. It felt like his presence could calm me down in the midst of my panic. My forehead rested against his chest, and for a moment, the loudness in my mind was replaced by the sound of his heartbeat.
He kept muttering comforting words into my ears, so I related even more in his arms. We stood there for a while, my eyes closed as I relished in his embrace.
When I opened my eyes, I caught sight of Ellie standing a few feet away, her arms crossed and a fond smile playing on her lips.
The sight of her brought me back to reality, and I pulled away from Evan, quickly wiping my tear–streaked cheeks.
Evan frowned as he watched me move away. Ellie, on the other hand, continued looking at us with a teasing grin.
I cleared my throat and looked down at the ground. “Thanks for coming here,” I muttered.
“Are you alright now?” he asked
I pursed my lips before shaking my head. “I’m scared,” I admitted quietly, glancing at him.
Evan nodded, his eyes meeting mine. “We’ll find him. I promise.”
Ellie slow
slowly walked to where we were. “Are you guys done now?” she smirked.
I playfully glared at her, causing her to chuckle.
Then, Evan turned to Ellie. “When did you last see him?” he asked.
Ellie’s teasing aura subsided, and her brows knitted together in concern. “He was playing by the swings earlier. I swear, I only looked away for a second, and when I turned back, he was gone.
“Did anyone else see anything?” Evan pressed, trying to get to the bottom of the situation.
Ellie shook her head. “It’s weird. Andy isn’t the type to runway. It feels like he’s been taken instead.”
My breath hitched. Evan glared at Ellie. “Let’s not assume anything. Right now, what we can do

Ellie hesitated before asking, “Should I call Rui? He might be able to help.”

Evan immediately shook his head. “No. It’s his mom’s birthday. I’ll call some of my guards. However, let’s start looking for him now.
We began searching the area, calling Andy’s name. Heather’s name flashed repeatedly on Evan’s phone, making me feel awkward.
He silenced each call with a swipe, muttering under his breath.
I trailed behind him as we combed through the park and nearby streets. My chest tightened with every step we took without any sign of Andy.
My mind raced with worst–case scenarios, and I could barely breathe through the anxiety clawing at me.
As we rounded the corner, I felt even more uneasy. Suddenly, a man stumbled out of a nearby alley. His gait was unsteady, and his breath reeked of alcohol.

“Hey, watch where you’re going,” he slurred, his red eyes fixing on me.

I instinctively stepped back, but he shoved past me, his shoulder colliding with mine. The force sent me sprawling backward. I hit the ground hard, my hands scraping against the pavement.
“Julia!” Evan shouted, rushing to my side.
Pain shot through my leg, and when I looked down, I saw a jagged piece of glass sticking out of my calf.
Blood seeped from the wound, making me curse under my breath.
“Julia!” Evan exclaimed before running to where I was.
He knelt beside me, his hands hovering over the wound. I parsed my lips to keep myself from making any sound.
“You’re bleeding,” he said, frowning as he inspected my skin.
“I’m fine,” I insisted, gritting my teeth as I tried to stand. “We need to keep looking for Andy.”

“Julia, no,” Evan said firmly, his hands on my shoulders to keep me from getting up. “You can’t walk on that. need to get you to a hospital.”
“No,” 1 argued, my voice breaking. “We don’t have time for that. Andy’s still out there-”
“Julia.”
Evan’s tone softened. “My men will keep looking. For now, you need to have this checked out. It’s not a simple wound. I think you’d need some stitches for that.”
I opened my mouth to protest, but the look on his face stopped me. He wasn’t going to back down, and honestly, I trusted his words.
“Fine,” I whispered, tears of frustration welling in my eyes
Evan pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and was about to wrap it around the wound. I placed my hand over his
“What now?” he asked, looking up at me with a slight frown.
“That’s designer,” I said. “It’s going to get stained with blood.”
He sighed and shook his head. “It doesn’t matter,” he muttered, holding onto my leg before wrapping it tightly around it. The white fabric was quickly stained red, but he didn’t seem to care.
“This will hold until we get there,” he said,
He helped me to my feet, his arm around my waist to support me. Every step to the car was agony, but Evan stayed close, murmuring reassurances I didn’t even register over the throbbing pain in my leg.
The hospital was bustling as usual. However, Evan had called ahead, and we were catered to almost immediately.
A nurse wheeled me into a minor operating room while Evan filled out the paperwork.
The room smelled of antiseptic, and the sound of metal instruments clinking together made me uneasy. I lay back on the table, staring at the ceiling as the doctor cleaned the wound.
“This will need a few stitches,” he said.
I nodded, not paying much attention. My mind was still on Andy. Where could he be? Was he scared? Was he hurt? The guilt was suffocating.

As the doctor began stitching, I heard muffled voices in the hallway. At first, I ignored it, assuming it was just hospital staff. But then, a familiar sound pierced through my thoughts.
“No! No! Let go of me!”
My heart stopped.
“Andy,” I whispered, my breath catching in my throat.
