Chapter 81: Heather’s Retaliation
EVANDER
I stared at the invitation in my hand and a small smile arose from my lips. I knew Julia and I’s relationship was far from being mended, but this was a start. I heard her loud and clear in the car, and I felt like I was slapped awake.
I wanted to go back home, but needed to go back to the office to prepare the contract for Julia and Mr. Miyagi. Rui had informed the renowned artist, and he full–heartedly wanted this collaboration after finding out Julia was going to be included.
However, yet again, as I entered the office, Heather was there.
I pursed my lips as soon as I saw her. I placed the invitation inside my pocket as she scrutinized me with her sharp.
eyes.
“What are you doing here again?” I asked.
I had told the guards not to let her inside of my office. However, it seemed like they still honored my father’s wishes. I was sure this was his request.
Heather was silent for a moment before she finally spoke. Her voice, once so sweet, was now filled with fury.
“Are you really doing this?” she asked.
“We’ve already talked, Heather,” I said. “I think you should go. I have some work left to do.”
“Anders!” she exclaimed, closing her eyes. The tone of her voice made me cover my ears.
“Are you hearing yourself right now?” she exclaimed. “You’ve never treated me this way.”
“I have always been like this, Heather. You know that,” I said.
“Are you forgetting about everything I’ve done for you?” she asked, glaring at me. There were tears brimming in her eyes, but they didn’t fall. It seemed that she was more angry than sad.
“Everything changed the moment that slut came back!” she continued.
“Heather,” I warned. “Don’t call Julia that name.
“You know it’s right!” she exclaimed. “She’s a slut. That’s the reason why you broke up with her in the first place! And then, who was there to pick up all the pieces? Me!”
“I showed you who she truly was. Do you remember Dean? saw him around town, and I think she’s still seeing him. Do you think someone like that deserves your attention?”
My jaw tightened as she said all of those words. Dean–a name I hadn’t heard in such a long time. However, he was someone I could never forget.
“Remember what I sacrificed for you, Anders. You couldn’t eat. You didn’t take care of yourself. I had to decline my scholarship in Paris just so I could be with you!”
I massaged the bridge of my nose as I recalled those days.
“I know,” I softly said. “I’m thankful for you. Really. I never asked you to sacrifice anything for me, and yet you did.”
“I will never forget how you became my light for those dark times. However, you have to know that we both changed,” I muttered.

“It’s because of Julia, isn’t it?” she asked, disdain heard in her voice. “The moment she arrived, you were ready to drop everything‘
“You know it was way before that, Heather,” I said. “We were both walking over broken glass. You wanted to please my father by providing him an heir, but you also couldn’t let go of your modeling career. I understand that.”
“I, on the other hand, also feel pressured to follow after my father’s footsteps. We both acted like our relationship was perfect, but we were both moving based on other people’s expectations. The first year, we were definitely happy. But for the second, we both placed other people’s interests above us.”
“When Julia came into the picture and revealed that we had Andy, I was surprised that you wanted to take him in. However, you’ve done so in a way where you were already hurting Julia.”
Heather’s face hardened. “Julia again,” she muttered.
“With this, I hope we part peacefully. I will also appreciate it if you don’t associate yourself with my father anymore. Stop pleasing him because of his status, You have your own life to live, Heather,” I continued. “You’re talented enough to make it out there. One day, I’m sure you’d find someone who will appreciate you much more than I ever had.”
I poured out all of my sincerity, so I expected Heather to understand. She has been understanding through most of our relationship. So, when her face didn’t change, I was even more surprised.
“So, this is how you’re going to play this game,” she muttered.
I frowned, watching as her face transform from anger to wickedness.
“After everything I’ve done,” she scoffed, shaking her head.
“I won’t let you,” she confidently added, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Then, she walked closer to where I was, placing her hand on my shoulder. “From a young age, I had always gotten what I wanted. When we were younger, you were the first one I didn’t get,” she said.
“However, I eventually did–after you broke up with Julia
I held onto her wrist and forcefully pushed her away. However, her expression did not change.
“I’ll show you what it’s like if I don’t get what I want. I’m a scary person, Anders. You must not have realized that.
“I may not be as powerful as you are, but know this, I am definitely more desperate,” she smirked. “Everything Julia has worked hard for? I’ll make sure all of it is buried underground. And your little family? They would never get to experience real happiness.”
I knew she was exaggerating her threats. However, for some reason, there was a small voice in the back of my mind that told me she was capable of doing such things. The look in her eyes suggested she had lost all rational thoughts in her mind.
“So, watch out,” she said, walking to the doorway and leaning against the wall.
“I’ll make sure you regret ever breaking up with me.”
