Chapter 83: Rejected
JULIA
Nearly everyone’s attention was captured. I couldn’t blame them. Evan looked straight out of a magazine despite being in his casual clothes.
In fact, it made him even more handsome. I watched as other moms eyed him like a piece of candy, while dads glared at him in both envy and curiosity.
Evan smiled at them, making some whisper with each other. I shook my head as I looked at him. So, he really did
come.
Although he was already smiling at the others, once his gaze was on me, his smile changed to a more genuine one. However, as it landed on Simon’s parents, his expression hardened.
“Andy’s father?” Simon’s dad asked. “I’ve never seen you around.”
Evan glanced at me before clearing his throat. “I haven’t been present for a long time, but I’m here now.
Meanwhile, Simon’s mom raised one eyebrow, her gaze going back and forth between me and Evan.
“Are you
u sure you’re the father?” she asked. “The other parents know that Julia is a single mother. Did she claim for you to be Andy’s father just like that?”
My face heated up. This chipmunk–looking bitch was starting to get on my nerves. I may have been a single mother, but I definitely raised my child better than the two of them had.
“It was my mistake,” Evan suddenly said before I could say something children weren’t supposed to hear. We all turned to him, and I saw the sincerity in his eyes.
“I wasn’t there for the majority of Andy’s life because of my own carelessness,” he continued. “However, in my absence, Julia did a wonderful job raising him on her own. I know a lot of people find it hard to raise kids as two. I can’t imagine the pain she had gone through.”
My breath hitched, and so did Carson’s. I turned to him and saw him looking down the ground.
“I’m ashamed of myself for not being with Andy since the very beginning, but I want to make it up to him now,” he said with conviction.
“However,” he continued, looking straight into Simon’s dad’s eyes. “Even if I wasn’t around, that doesn’t excuse the fact that your kid had done something wrong. You, as a father, should have the pride to discipline your child.”
“Moreover, being a single parent is not something to be ashamed of. They are working twice as hard as you, but sometimes, their child turns out even more decent than yours.”
Simon’s brows furrowed. He was about to retaliate, but the other parents began whispering among themselves.
“That’s right. Simon is a bully, but they can’t accept that.”
“They’re a complete family, but they can’t discipline their child.”
“And Andy is so sweet, too.”
“If you have insecurities, don’t pass them on to your children. Break the cycle,” Evan said, more of a general statement. However, I was sure Simon’s parents were the most affected.
Simon’s mom opened her mouth to speak, but before that could happen, Ellie had called for everyone’s attention. “Let us thank this fine gentleman right here for the early morning lecture,” she said with a chuckle, trying to

lighten the atmosphere.
“However, we came here to celebrate the wonderful gift of family! With that, we may now begin!” she announced, causing the parents to disperse to the different parlor games that the teachers and students had prepared.
“Mommy, can I go play with my friends?” Andy asked, tugging on my sleeve.
“Of course, bub,” I said. “Your dad and I would just be here, alright? Tell us if you want to play together.”
Andy glanced at Evan but didn’t smile. Then, he nodded before joining his friends in a game of giant tic–tac–toe.
I glanced at Evan and found him looking at us fondly. I walked closer to him, crossing my arms in front of my chest. From my peripheral vision, I also saw Carson looking However, he didn’t make the effort to go closer.
I was thankful for that, honestly.
“What?” I asked Evan.
“Nothing,” he muttered. “Your dad and I…,” he said, repeating my words. “That sounded nice.”
I rolled my eyes, but I also felt the blood rush to my cheeks. What else am I supposed to say? That’s who we are, right?”
His smile widened as he stood next to me. “I know,” he said “I hope I can hear it more.”
My heart began beating louder, so I quickly changed the subject.
“You actually came,” I said.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” he muttered. “Even if it was a small presentation. I would still be here. I’ve already missed a lot. I don’t want to miss out on more.”
I pursed my lips.
‘Don’t be weak, Julia. Don’t be weak!”
Why was he saying all sorts of cool things when I just told him to keep our relationship professional!
“Is Andy alright, though?” he asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Evan scratched the back of his neck. “He hasn’t greeted me at all since I came here.”
I turned to Andy and saw him looking at the two of us, specifically Evan. However, when he caught my gaze, he quickly looked away.
“I guess,” I muttered. “Andy also hasn’t asked for you for a while now.”
He frowned, turning to look at our son. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
“I honestly don’t know,” I said.
“Andy, bub!” I called for his attention.
He glanced at us but was hesitant to move. I smiled and gestured for him to come closer.
“Come here, bub. Your dad is here for family day,” I said as he settled in front of us. However, even then, he wasn’t looking at Evan.
“How’s it going, bub?” Evan said, kneeling to his level. He was about to pat surprising the two of us.

I, too, frowned in confusion. “Andy, what’s wrong?” I asked in a soft voice.
He turned to me and wrapped his arms around my thighs.
“Mommy,” he started off. “I don’t want a daddy anymore.”
