Chapter 2
“Who were you talking to?”
Zander saw that Joyce had not returned to the dining table, so he walked into the balcony to find her. However, he found her standing by the window, holding her phone tightly in her hand, seemingly lost in thought.
She came to her senses and said calmly, “It’s nothing, just an old friend.”
It was late at night, Joyce lay quietly in bed, with the steady sound of Zander’s snoring in her ears. She stared blankly at the ceiling, her mind filled with countless thoughts, unable to sleep.
The next morning, Zander frowned as he faced the breakfast on the table.
“You clearly know that I usually don’t eat light food much, so why did you prepare these today?”
She lowered her head and gently cut a piece of fried egg with a fork, slowly putting it into her mouth
“We only had these ingredients at home.”
In fact, she was planning to study abroad, she just hoped to adapt to the foreign food culture in advance.
Zander didn’t care and casually set his phone aside, but his eyes would occasionally glance towards it, as if he was waiting for
someone’s message.
She knew in her heart that he was waiting for someone’s message.
The phone rang with a notification sound, and be immediately checked it.
It seemed to be a message from Plianna, which brought a long–lost smile to his face, even causing the usually indifferent corners of his mouth to curl up.
Joyce observed silently for a while, then took out the prepared divorce agreement.
Since the day she made the agreement with Ruby, she had foreseen this moment, and now, she has finally regained her freedom.
Zander, let’s get divorced.”
Her voice was flat, as if she was just discussing mundane matters.
Zander’s attention was completely on his phone, and he didn’t even pay attention to what she was saying. He casually responded with a
“HI”
Joyce was not surprised, as throughout these three years, he always held this attitude towards her, sometimes cold and sometimes
Now, Elianna’s return completely withdrew Zander’s last bit of attention towards her.
She flipped to the signature page, handed it over together with a pen, and pointed with her finger, “Sign here.”
“Okay.”
He was so focused on replying to messages that he didn’t even glance at the content of the agreement. He quickly scribbled his name. And at the same time, his other hand was swiftly typing on the keyboard.
Joyce said calmly, “Zander, once this period of calmness is over, I will leave.”
Zander simply responded with a nod, then set the utensils aside and stood up, preparing to leave.
Watching his departing figure without any nostalgia, Joyce couldn’t hold back and called him back in the end.
“Zander, did you hear what I just said?”
He slowed down his pace, turned around and looked at her with a puzzled expression,
“Didn’t we discuss about donating supplies to the school before? Wasn’t the document just now the agreement for that? You mentioned it to me earlier, what’s wrong?
She couldn’t help but show a bitter smile. In fact, she had shown him that agreement last week.
דוד
He obviously didn’t take her words to heart and didn’t care about her opinion at all, but she had already let go of it all
That’s it.
Zander, from now on you were free, you could spend time with Elianna as you pleased.
She smiled faintly and said, “It’s nothing ”
In the afternoon, Joyce prepared supplies and went to Suarez Elementary School where she had grown up since childhood.
She lost her parents at an early age and became a helpless orphan. It was the principal who reached out a helping hand, accepting her and treating her as his own.
After finishing her tasks, she found Principal Franco Hughes in a classroom.
“Franco, I intended to go abroad to continue my studies.”
Upon hearing her say this, the principal felt extremely happy. Joyce was an outstanding student in the Department of Literature back then, and her decision to not pursue further studies had long been a regret for the principal
“Joyce, this is truly delightful news!” The principal’s face lit up with a smile, but then be followed up with a slightly worried question, “But, won’t you have to temporarily separate from Zander when you go abroad to study? It won’t be easy for the two of you to be apart.
Joyce gazed at the children playing outside the window, a bitter smile playing at the corners of her mouth, as she softly said, “No,
actually we got divorced.”
The principal was somewhat taken aback and then let out a sigh, “I actually had a feeling that you wouldn’t be together for long. If he truly considered you his lover, why would he not accompany you to see things together for so long? Well, now it’s good, you can finally pursue your own life again.”
The principal gently patted her shoulder with sympathy..
Joyce responded with a smile, lifted her head, and nodded with relief.
Yes, she was finally able to embrace her own life.
