Chapter 6
With a heart full of doubts, she stepped into the house with her notebook.
She had just gotten out of the car when the servants at home hurriedly approached her, their faces
filled with relieved expressions, some even with tears shimmering in their eyes.
“Madam! Madam, you have finally returned safely. During the days you were away, the house was
in chaos. No matter what we did, Mr. Norton was not satisfied. He has lost his temper several
times…”
After hearing these words, Joyce immediately understood.
Originally, without her management, he felt uncomfortable.
But he should also gradually adapt, because soon, she would forever leave his world.
From now on, his life will no longer have her company.
Joyce comforted the servant with a soft voice and then walked into the living room. Inside, it was pitch black.
Zander sat alone on the sofa, with the moonlight intermittently casting a hazy glow on his
handsome face.
Hearing the sound, he looked up and stared at her for a long time, with a hint of restrained
dissatisfaction in his tone.
“What have you been doing these past few days?” he asked in a low voice.
She gently took off her coat, her tone sounding indifferent, “I went to the lakeside to write
something.”
Zander furrowed his brow, looking puzzled, “Wait, when did you become interested in writing?”
In fact, it was not a sudden impulse, she was already an elite in the field of literature.
If it weren’t for that agreement, she would have long gone abroad to study and become a shining literary star.
But she didn’t reveal these to the person in front of her, she just silently picked up the water cup and took a sip, her tone still seeming indifferent.
“It was just that suddenly there was inspiration.”
Zander gently rubbed his temples, “Last time at the sushi restaurant, it wasn’t my intention to leave you behind. It’s just that Elianna has always been physically weak since childhood and is
nusually sensitive to pain. Even a small scratch would make her uncomfortable for a long time. We have been childhood friends, and taking care of her has become a habit, so I decided to accompany
1/4
her first.”
“And you didn’t object at that time either, so why did you suddenly leave? Elianna’s new house has already been renovated, and she has moved out. Don’t get angry over these trivial matters.”
With that, his tone revealed a hint of reproach.
I don’t know whether it was dissatisfaction with Joyce’s sudden departure or dissatisfaction with
her intolerance that made Elianna move out of her home.
However, Joyce didn’t care about it. She just casually replied and turned around, preparing to go
upstairs, her tone seeming quite indifferent.
“Joyce!”
She turned back in response, and the man stood up.
“I was feeling a bit hungry, please make something for me to eat.”
Joyce raised her bandaged left hand and said, “It seems like you don’t remember, my hand couldn’t
touch water.”
Zander was taken aback, but Joyce didn’t pay attention to his expression and went back to the room.
The next day, as soon as she opened the bedroom door, a delicate gift was handed to her.
She looked up at Zander, who was handing her the gift, with a puzzled expression.
Zander felt a bit uneasy. “Last time we had a meal. But I was too busy and couldn’t pay attention to
you. This time is a compensation.”
Joyce looked at the diamond necklace in the gift box, her eyes dim and unclear.
Three years passed in the blink of an eye. In this long period of time, he prepared a gift for her for
the first time. However, the intention behind this gift was to make up for the negligence he had
shown towards her due to being completely absorbed in taking care of Elianna.
She curled up a self–mocking smile at the corner of her mouth, but soon regained her composur
For this gift that she had never anticipated, she no longer had any desire for it.
She hesitated to reach out her hand, and Zander didn’t think much of it, mistakenly assuming that she didn’t like the gift.
“Recently, I have been busy because of Elianna, so I let my assistant choose something that girls like nowadays. If you don’t like it…”
Zander’s words were interrupted by Shayla’s voice coming from outside the door.
“Elianna, my brother likes you so much, so please don’t move out. Even if you don’t live here, you
2/4
should still come and visit often.”
Shayla chattered as she pulled Elianna inside. She couldn’t help but exclaim when she saw the gift
box.
“Oh my goodness, Zander, Elianna just told me she really liked this necklace a moment ago, I never expected you to actually buy it!”
Upon hearing these words, Elianna’s cheeks immediately turned crimson, and she shyly lowered
her gaze.
Seeing Zander’s struggling expression, Joyce didn’t hesitate to take the gift box from his hand and
handed it to Elianna.
“Since it was specially prepared for you, go ahead and accept it.”
She made a decision for Zander, while also resolving his inner hesitation.
Unprecedentedly, Zander’s gaze did not fall upon Elianna, but involuntarily turned towards Joyce.
He didn’t understand why he felt a slight sense of unfamiliarity in his heart as he looked at her elegant and graceful appearance.
He always felt that she seemed different, but he couldn’t specify exactly what had changed.
