Chapter 2
Hooked up in astonishment, thinking that I had misheard.
“What?” Eddie looked at me with red eyes, slightly taken aback.
He furrowed his brows subconsciously and fetched a hot towel to help me apply heat.
“Tomorrow’s party requires a female companion, please do me a favor.”
I looked at him in astonishment, weren’t you going to marry Arabella?
But I didn’t ask this question.
Eddie seemed to guess what I was thinking. “Arabella has an important meeting to attend today, and I can’t let her be distracted, so I came to find you.”
I sighed lightly.
The small flame that was burning in my heart suddenly extinguished.
Originally, I was just worried that Arabella would be distracted, so she came to me, the backup, for
help.
I smiled and said, “Okay.”
Anyway, in a few days, I would completely leave this city.
Just as a way to repay Eddie for his care over the past few years.
Eddie did not look at the newspaper or financial magazines as usual, his gaze fell on my face with a
vacant expression.
The towel used for the hot compress has cooled down, so he went to change it with hot water.
His bony fingers accidentally brushed against my face, causing a slight pause.
I felt awkward and wanted to take the towel myself, “Let me do it.”
“Don’t move.”
Eddie’s unquestionable voice carried a hint of tenderness and indulgence.
I almost teared up again.
Since you don’t love me, why bother being so nice to me?
Istubbornly snatched the towel away from him and freed myself from his grip.
“I didn’t bother Eddie.”

Eddie looked at me in astonishment, doubting if he had heard me correctly, “What did you just call me?‘
“Eddie.”
I repeated it.
Over the years, because Eddie is only a few years older than me, I could never bring myself to call him uncle when faced with that handsome face.
But now, reminding him also reminds me.
Eddie sneered. “Kylie, after all these years of raising you, I only just now realize that you are so polite.”
He seemed displeased and, as he got up and left, he kicked over the nearby chair.
Before closing the study door tightly,
His voice rang out again, devoid of warmth.
“Remember to apply a warm compress to your eyes, don’t miss tomorrow’s party.”
In the mirror, a mocking smile appeared in the corner of my eye. He didn’t ask me why I was crying.
I was just afraid that I would delay the party, that’s all.
The next morning, Auntie prepared breakfast and quietly asked me as she approached.
“Kylie, did you upset the gentleman?”
I was confused, and the nanny’s aunt whispered to discuss.
“I don’t know what happened, but after the gentleman came back this time, he got really angry.‘
“The precious cup in his study, which was worth a lot of money, was broken by him last night.”
I shook my head, “I don’t know.”
Maybe Arabella didn’t have time to accompany him to the party, so he got angry.
After having breakfast, Eddie had someone deliver a set of formal attire to me.
“I changed my clothes and went downstairs. I was waiting for you in the car.”
Half an hour later, I appeared downstairs wearing an orange short dress.
Eddie, as usual, took the initiative to open the car door for me.
He bent down again to help me fasten the seatbelt.

When he approached, I held my breath and Eddie also froze.
On that night three months ago, his breath gently brushed against my neck.
I couldn’t help but blush, and Eddie might have also thought about that night.
Awkwardly withdrew the hand.
“Buckle up your seatbelt yourself.”
