Chapter 2
Istarted to dress myself up, studied the dishes more carefully, and worked hard to make myself
gentler.
I fought with a stranger, whom I had never met before, from a distance, foolishly thinking that this
way I could win back Lucas.
Last night when I went to pick up the drunk Lucas, I saw him sitting on the roadside with a young
girl.
A dark suit, tailored to fit perfectly, with long legs naturally crossed, and a sharp jawline softened
by the dim yellow streetlights.
The face of that young boy, which was excessively beautiful in his youth, gradually settled down
and matured over the years, like wine that becomes more fragrant with time.
I suddenly remembered that when we first got together, we used to sit like this by the roadside.
I gave him the dish I had just made, and he suddenly fell silent after taking a bite.
I thought it wouldn’t taste good, so I was a little nervous. “What’s wrong?”
Lucas lifted his head and suddenly smiled at me.
“I was just thinking, how did I deserve such a wonderful wife?”
My face turned red.
On the cold winter street, he wrapped me in his coat, and as he spoke, his breath turned into white
vapor.
“When I have money in the future, I will pay for you to open a big restaurant and hang your signboard at your home!”
“By then, everyone in the world would have known how amazing my wife was and how delicious her cooking was!”
I looked up, he looked down.
Those beautiful dark eyes reflected the lights of countless homes behind me, as well as my smiling eyes. That was a long, long time ago.
I had forgotten about it for so long that if I hadn’t seen this scene, I probably wouldn’t have remembered.
That young man, who used to be all mine, really became very wealthy as he said.
But the people around him were no longer me.

“How was it? Was it delicious?” Kelly asked, wiggling her feet and laughing.
made the sandwich by myself, and it took a long time.”
Lucas held the sandwich in his hand, and there was tenderness in his eyes.
“It was delicious.”
And what I was carrying in my hands, the soup that had been simmering for four hours, seemed to have become a joke.
Lucas glanced at me unintentionally, his hand paused in motion, and his eyebrows instinctively furrowed.
“How did you come?”
Kelly glanced at me discreetly, thinking she went unnoticed, and then waved at me.
“Is it Helen?”
She came over with a smile and said, “I didn’t expect you to be so good–looking. Lucas never mentioned it at work.”
“He drank too much while socializing with several developers today. Oh, is this the supper you prepared?” She took the lunchbox from my hand and opened it.
The steaming hot fish soup exuded a fragrant aroma, with a hint of mild spiciness from the pepper.
She took a deep breath and said, “It smells so good. Helen is really good at cooking!”
Then she glanced at me and curled her lips.
“It’s a pity that Lucas had just eaten the sandwich I brought from home.”
She called him Lucas.
In her early twenties, the young girl was so straightforward even in provocation, carrying a chikish
fearlessness of the heavens and the earth.
Or perhaps it was Lucas‘ favoritism that gave her the courage to be straightforward.
I looked at Lucas and said, “Are you saying that the shit outside smells better than the delicious
food at home?”
Lucas’s face darkened.
Kelly was not angry either, she smiled and said, “Actually, what we eat is not important, who we eat with is important.”
“Eating with someone you like, even simple food tastes like a delicacy, while eating a grand feast

with someone you dislike feels like chewing wax. Helen, am I right?”
glanced at Kelly and sneered, “Yeah, of course eating shit between dog men and women is
delicious.”
Kelly’s face turned dark, and she fell silent.
Lucas stood up, his face darkened. “Helen, you went too far.”
I didn’t want to lose my composure in front of everyone, so I lowered my gaze and said, “Go back.”
Lucas finished eating the sandwich in his hand and made a phone call to summon the driver,
“Safely take her home,” he emphasized to the driver without any hesitation in front of me.
Kelly pouted and got in the car. Before leaving, she glanced at Lucas, seemingly acting coquettishly.
