Chapter 6
1
There was a recipe in the old cookbook for braised whole duck, and I wanted to buy a duck and try it
out.
As the supermarket was having a discount in the evening, I had nothing to do and decided to go for a walk. However, I don’t know if it was because the security in the old town was not good or I was just
unlucky, but on my way back home, I suddenly felt like there was someone following me from
behind.
I turned around and saw that the streetlights in the alley were dim. A man was walking leisurely not
far from me.
Something is wrong.
I seemed to have seen this man just now when I was leaving the supermarket.
I broke out in a cold sweat all over my body, not knowing if I was overthinking it. I quickened my
pace, intending to shake him off!
But he actually continued to follow me, when I bent down to go upstairs, he also entered the
corridor!
I was terrified and rushed into the house at the fastest speed of my life, locking the door behind me!
Looking out from the cat’s eye, the man did not come.
I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that this matter had passed.
I didn’t expect that when I got up in the middle of the night, I found that the power was out at home.
And I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but outside the door… there seemed to be a rustling
sound.
I plucked up the courage to look out through the peephole, but it was pitch black outside and I couldn’t see anything.
But I don’t know why, a thought suddenly popped into my head. There’s someone outside!
I took a sudden step back, and from head to toe, I felt a chilling sensation as if I had been frozen. I
didn’t care whether I was overthinking or not, I quickly dialed 911!
The police station is a bit far from home. The officer on the phone said it would take about 20 minutes for them to arrive and asked me to ensure my own safety.
The noise outside the door grew louder and louder. I was already a timid person, and now I was even
more scared, tears were about to fall. Subconsciously, I opened my phone and dialed Lucas’s
Fore
number.

The call was quickly connected over there. “Hello?”
Heaned against the locked bedroom door, with a sob in my voice, and whispered softly, “Lucas…”
I hadn’t finished speaking when he interrupted me, sneering, “Changed your mind?”
“Helen, weren’t you very tough before?”
I was trembling all over and didn’t care about his attitude anymore. “Lucas, someone is prying open my door, I’m so scared, can you…”
What could he do, actually?
I was just seeking his comfort out of habit when I was most afraid.
But Lucas laughed.
He sneered, “Helen, come up with a more plausible excuse if you want to find an excuse to step
down.” The words in my mouth suddenly couldn’t come out.
I remained silent for a while and hung up the phone.
I couldn’t say I was disappointed as I looked at the screen shining brightly.
We had originally planned to get divorced.
He was like this, and it seemed like there was no problem.
I just don’t know why, but suddenly I felt very tired, with an empty feeling in my chest, as if the wind could blow right through me.
Even fear became somewhat numb with exhaustion.
The sound outside seemed to have stopped, but after a moment, a man’s cold voice suddenly came
through.
“What were you doing?”
It was Neil’s voice!
And then came the muffled sound of a heavy object hitting the ground!
I quickly opened the door and rushed out.
Neil was seen with his upper body bare and his lower body wearing gray long pajama pants, looking down at the skinny and sleazy middle–aged man he had knocked down on the ground.
“What about you?” he said coldly. “Why were you prying into someone else’s door in the middle of the night?”
The man groaned in pain and glanced at Neil, who had a tall and muscular build, with fear in his

eyes.
… I didn’t do anything; I went to the wrong door.”
Neil sneered and reached out to grab him, but he didn’t expect that the man’s figure was surprisingly agile. He twisted his body and rolled on the ground before crazily rushing downstairs!
Neil went all out, supporting himself with one hand on the railing and jumping straight down. He grabbed the man’s collar from behind.
The man simply didn’t even want his clothes anymore and slid out like a cicada shedding its shell!
“Damn it!”
Neil cursed and glanced back at me, who was in a state of shock, before deciding to come back and
Comfort me.
