When I got home, I finally received a call from Vanessa.
“Damn it, you actually made me sleep with that handsome guy from yesterday.”
Vanessa’s tone was initially nonchalant, but when she heard me say “slept with,” she suddenly perked up.
“Mia Coleman, you’ve finally come to your senses!”
“So, how was it? The young pup must have been good, right?”
Vanessa’s few sentences had already made my ears burn hot,
“Vanessa, why did you drug my drink? I’m your sister! What if some ill–intentioned bad guy had targeted me?”
Thinking back to last night’s scene, I felt a bit scared.
It was lucky it was Ethan.
If I had encountered a real scoundrel, I wouldn’t have the luxury of interrogating her now.
“Don’t worry, Ethan fell for you at first sight yesterday. I deliberately arranged for him to take you home. As for what happened after you got home, that’s between you two.”
After chatting with Vanessa for over an hour, I saw a bombshell post on social media.
Sophia Williams had posted photos of Jack Sullivan throwing her a birthday party.
It was a grid of nine photos, mostly selfies of her looking beautiful, but the center photo showed her giggling in Jack’s arms.
The caption read: “In a world full of bitterness, you’re my drop of sweetness.”
<
I complained to Vanessa about it, and she immediately exploded.
“That woman is so childish. We’re sophisticated women who can take it or leave it.”
Vanessa was right.
I was above fighting over him.
Jack Sullivan was just a man I didn’t want anymore.
You can never wake someone who’s pretending to be asleep.
Just like in my previous life, I had spent five years trying to win his heart with sincerity, but failed.
Thankfully, I had escaped unscathed this time. There wouldn’t be another five years.
“Sweet Mia, look forward. What do you think of Ethan?”
I vaguely noticed an extra jewelry box in my bag.
I took it out and looked.
Oh, Tiffany & Co.
“Tsk tsk, this Ethan kid is quite generous.”
“Sis, I’ve got to go now.”
I opened the jewelry box to find a necklace inside.
I paused, touching my neck.
I remembered Ethan saying I had left my necklace at his place.
But my necklace was still here.

This kid was quite smooth.
He had somehow slipped a brand new necklace into my bag.
Out of boredom, I scrolled through social media and saw Jack Sullivan’s comment on Sophia Williams‘ post.
He had replied with a playful emoji.
Suddenly, I remembered that in all these years, no matter how many photos I posted, Jack Sullivan never even glanced at them.
When I asked him about it, he said he wasn’t in the habit of scrolling through social media.
Just thinking about Jack Sullivan gave me a habitual headache.
Vanessa bought a ton of food and came to my place.
When I opened the door, there was a baby–faced handsome guy smiling at me behind her.
“Oh, this is Ming Chen. He just dropped me off, he’s leaving now.”
Vanessa took off her high heels and made a beeline for my fridge.
She took out a bottle of beer and opened it.
“Sis, is your alcohol addiction acting up again?”
<
Vanessa took a big gulp.
“Seize the day when fortune smiles!”
I smiled helplessly.
After drinking, she started inspecting my house.
She found an ugly ceramic piece still sitting on the coffee table.
It was a strangely shaped dog.
It was from the first year of my marriage to Jack Sullivan. I wanted to experience a normal married life, so I dragged Jack to a pottery class.
Who knew we’d both be so clumsy at it.
He ended up finishing it, making a small dog for me.
He was born in the Year of the Dog, and at the time, I interpreted it as him willing to be my faithful companion.
Later, as time passed, I discovered that he had always kept this little dog hidden in his bedside drawer, never to see the light of day.
He had said at the time: “If you’re not good at pottery, don’t force it. Art isn’t something everyone can dabble in.”
Later, I found out that Sophia Williams had studied sculpture art in France.
Vanessa spat out in disgust.
“That Jack Sullivan is just ungrateful. You saved him back then, he could never repay that debt in this lifetime.”
What my sister didn’t know was that in my previous life, not only did he not repay this kindness, he even caused my death.
This time, I wouldn’t let anyone manipulate me.

“When the Sullivan family fell on hard times, where was that green tea bitch Sophia Williams? She immediately went abroad. So much for ‘sharing weal and woe.‘ I heard she even ran off with all of Jack Sullivan’s money. I really don’t understand what Jack Sullivan is thinking, still pining for her.”
“If you ask me, men are just gluttons for punishment!”
Seeing that I hadn’t said anything for a while, Vanessa suddenly stopped and tentatively asked after a long pause:
“You… you’re not still in love with him, are you?”
I got up and threw the little dog figurine into the trash, saying in a flat tone:
“I stopped loving him long ago.”
“We have no relationship whatsoever now.”
Love that costs your life? I don’t want it.
The consequence of being blinded by love is losing both your life and your wealth.
I thought I had made up my mind to cut ties with the past, but before long, Jack Sullivan barged into my life again.
Ethan came to pick me up from work every day, making quite a show of it.
I wanted to refuse him several times.
“Ethan, why don’t you go after those young, beautiful girls instead of hanging around a divorced woman like me all the time?”

<
Ethan grinned from ear to ear.
“None of them are as beautiful as you!”
That day after work, Ethan was waiting for me downstairs in his sports car.
He was holding a bouquet of white roses.
My subordinates all exclaimed:
“Wow, Ms. Coleman, you’re really blessed in love.””
“That’s right, I bet your ex–husband is grinding his back teeth in jealousy now.”
“Exactly, our Ms. Coleman is beautiful and rich, she’ll never worry about finding a man.”
I walked over to Ethan, smiling awkwardly.
“Didn’t I tell you not to come anymore?”
Ethan was very gentlemanly, maintaining a safe distance from me until I agreed to be with him.
“Big sis, I can’t eat or sleep. You’re all I think about. If I don’t see you for even a minute, I get anxious. For the sake of my health, I decided I had to come.”
As we were talking, a cold male voice came from behind.
“Mia Coleman!”

I turned to see Jack Sullivan glaring at me with a gloomy face.
Next to him stood Sophia Williams, his precious soulmate.
Seeing this, I walked to Ethan’s side and naturally took his arm.
“Mr. Sullivan, hello. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Ethan spoke first, extending his hand.
Jack Sullivan stared at him for a long time before turning to look at me.
“Mia Coleman, why are you with him of all people?”
Confused and angry, I retorted:
