Chapter 341
When Selena arrived at the hospital, Caellan was still unconscious.
The side of his bed sagged visibly, his arm leaving a deep indentation–evidence of the harsh reality: he was now a cripple.
No one would’ve thought this boy, once so full of promise, would end up in such a pitiful state in such a short time?
What was even more tragic was that there wasn’t a single person visiting him.

“Talk about having nine lives…” Selena murmured under her breath as she reached for the blanket, prepared to slip the silver needles hidden in her sleeve into his vital spots, planning to end his life quietly.
Suddenly, there was a sharp sound from the door handle behind her, but no one entered.
“Who’s there?” Selena asked, her voice sharp as she quickly pulled her needles back, glancing over her shoulder. If it was Fenwick who had snuck out, then it was the perfect opportunity to finish off both of them.
But to her surprise, a voice, old and gravelly, came from the hallway, “Don’t worry, young lady. I won’t come in. I’m just from the next room, couldn’t sleep, so I’m out for a little walk.”
Selena squinted, loosening her tense posture. She knew there was glass on the hospital doors, and someone could see in from the outside.
She casually sat down beside Caellan’s bed, pretending to be a relative visiting.
She didn’t reply to the elderly man, nor did she invite him in–clearly not interested in making small talk.
However, the old man persisted, “You must be… his sister, right? When he was unconscious earlier, he kept calling your name. Yelled it so loudly, we could all hear down the hallway…”
Selena’s lips curled into a bitter smile, though it wasn’t one of amusement. It was a cruel, mocking sort of smile.
The old man, unsure of what had caused her reaction, thought perhaps she was too proud to talk to an old man. He turned to leave, but before he could, Selena spoke softly, “He wasn’t always like this.”
“He used to call me the nastiest names, assume the worst of me, push me, bite me, kick me, slap me…”
Caellan’s eyelids twitched, but it was such a small movement that Selena didn’t notice.
Her voice grew increasingly agitated as she continued, her eyes unfocused as if lost in her memories.
“He made me take sleeping pills so I’d miss the entrance exam. Then, when I finally managed to get into high school as a special talent student, he came to destroy my art studio, tore up my mother’s keepsakes, forced me to leave home… and sent me overseas with nothing,” Selena said.
“The days I spent abroad… you can’t imagine what I went through. At first, they didn’t care if I lived or died, locked me in a cage and only brought me out for experiments…”
At that moment, Caellan suddenly opened his eyes and screamed hoarsely, “No. Stop, please don’t say any more. I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t
mean to…”
Selena flinched, her eyes snapping back into focus. She instinctively blinked, but felt an odd itch on her face, as if something was crawling there.
Without thinking, she reached up to wipe it away–but to her surprise, there was no insect. Instead, there was a tear on her finger.
“I’m sorry… Kill me. Just kill me. I… I would trade my life for just one more word from you…”
Caellan was crying uncontrollably, but in his eyes, there was a glimmer of hope. He wished that his death might bring forgiveness from Elysia, that maybe, just maybe, before he died, he could hear her say his name once more,
But in that moment, Selena saw the truth. She froze and screamed, “No. Wait. Selena’s dead. Who are you?!”
The hospital room was dark, and with the moonlight barely peeking through, Caellan could only make out shapes. Confused and disoriented, he tried to make sense of the person in front of him.
Selena, however, answered with chilling calm, “What do you think? I’m dead. Of course, I’ve come back as a ghost to take your life.”
The moment the words left her lips, the old man in the hallway hurriedly shuffled away, his legs no longer slow and labored as they had been. From now on, he probably wouldn’t dare to wander the halls at night.

Chapter 341
Caellan’s expression froze, but then a faint smile tugged at his lips. Despite the tears, his grin was surprisingly bright, even joyful.
Selena, as part of the organization, had exceptional night vision. Yet, seeing a dying man not begging for mercy, not struggling with his last words, but smiling in this strange way–happy, almost excited–left her puzzled.
‘Could it be a trick? Maybe the boy was faking it, playing some sort of game, Selena thought.
“Don’t think this will spare you,” Selena muttered, pulling out the needle again, this time aiming for his fatal spot.
But just before she could strike, Caellan whispered weakly, “Kill me… thank you… for coming to see me. Thank you… for talking to me. I’m already
content.”
He closed his eyes, no longer searching for her face, but instead imagining Elysia in his mind, guiding him towards death.
“I’m ready, Selena,” he murmured.
The pain he had expected didn’t come. When he opened his eyes again, the room was empty.
“Where… where is she?” Caellan tried to rub his eyes but forgot his arms were broken. He was left awkwardly wiping away his tears with his shoulder. The room was completely empty–nothing but his own presence remained.
What had just happened? It felt like a dream. A beautiful dream where Elysia came to see him, leading him toward death.
“But why… why hasn’t she taken me yet? Don’t leave me here alone, please… I beg you… come and kill me…”
Caellan cried out repeatedly. Meanwhile, Selena, hidden behind the curtains, wasn’t sure whether he truly believed she was Ava come to collect his soul, or if he simply wanted to die. It didn’t matter who came–he just wanted an end.
What was strange was that, when she had spoken those words earlier, she hadn’t even been aware of them. They had just come naturally. And when she went to strike him, she felt an inexplicable resistance.
‘Could it be that Ava hasn’t died? No, we have seen her body. So, the only explanation left is that something was wrong with my own mind.’ Selena thought.
She paused for a moment. When Caellan closed his eyes again, she stepped forward, this time targeting the IV drip next to him.
She decisively pushed the poison–laced needle into the bag of fluid.
Now, it was up to him. If luck was on his side, he might survive–but she knew her poison would make him suffer if it was his bad luck.
Either way, she was sure that for a young man like him, being left crippled without care would be the beginning of endless torment.
