“Trenton, I’ll need your cooperation next,” Kristina said. She leaned in close and whispered her plan.
She then feigned surprise and exclaimed, “Oh, that’s fantastic. You’re finally back to normal, honey!”
With uncontainable joy, she hugged Trenton, but quickly glanced over at the door. It was wide open, and some cleaning staff in the hallway had stopped to watch the scene unfold.
Kristina knew the medical team had its share of traitors, and she was sure some of the servants were just as shady. She was determined to root out anyone suspicious.
An excited smile danced on her lips as she raised her voice slightly. “Honey, the Magic Doctor’s medicine really is effective. Do you remember where we first met?”
“At the Left Bank Café, 130 North Sea Road,” Trenton replied, his deep, resonant voice pleasant, like the soothing tones of a cello. His bright eyes sparked with an understanding that hinted at more than just a rehearsed answer.
Kristina stood right in front of him, so close that she could feel the warmth of his breath. She was momentarily lost in the depth of his gentle gaze.
“This guy looks exactly like he always does. He’s such a convincing actor. But he even remembered the exact coffee shop location, right down to the street and door number. Did he used to hang out there all the time?‘ Kristina thought.
Her eyes lit up with excitement as she pressed on, “Honey, do you remember which university you went to? And what was your major?”
“Oxfory University, majoring in economics, Trenton replied.
While Kristina asked, she kept an eye on the servants outside ad noticed a few edging closer under the pretense of cleaning.
With a playful smile, Trenton draped his arm around Kristina’s waist. “Hmm? Anything else you want to know?”
For a moment, Kristina was almost fooled by Trenton’s acting skills. He seemed so genuine, and his ease in answering the questions made her question whether he had really recovered or was simply putting on a show.
Trenton chuckled softly, and his large hand tenderly ruffled Kristina’s hair before his cool lips brushed lightly against hers. “Thank you for staying with me all this time,” he said, his deep voice tugging at her heartstrings.
In his eyes, she could see the reflection of herself, the warmth resonating between them almost tangible. He smelled of cedar, and his flawless features were reminiscent of a masterfully crafted work of art.
Kristina felt her heart racing. Since Trenton had “regained his memory,” it made sense for them to have some private time. With that thought in mind, she closed the door to shield their intimacy from prying eyes.
She reached out and softly touched Trenton’s cheek. “You’re amazing. If you ever went into acting, you’d totally crush it. Not only do you get things done, but you go above and beyond.”
A knock at the door broke their moment. Kristina’s eyes narrowed–someone was definitely checking up on them. She shot a quick look at Trenton, and they both braced themselves before she opened the door.
A servant stood outside the closed door, her eyes darting around the room before she promptly handed an envelope to Kristina. “Mrs. McClain, there’s an invitation for you.”
“Who sent it?” Kristina frowned slightly, as if her mood was dampened by the interruption of their intimate moment.
“It’s an invitation to Mr. Lewis’s birthday party,” the servant explained, her voice steady. “And you-”

“Got it. Next time, knock only when I say so,” Kristina said, closing the door with a sharp click. She made a mental sose to remember this servant’s face and name–something told her she’d be keeping a close eye on this one.
Kristina opened the invitation and saw it was for Yanis’s birthday party. She thought back to her previous life, remembering the funeral invitation she’d received around this same time. What a difference—this time, it was a celebration of life.
The Lewis family not only invited Kristina but extended the invitation to everyone in the McClain family as well. It was only when Kristina arrived at the party that she realized there was something unique about her invitation
