Upon sewing Matthew in Winona’s hospital room, Leonard made a beeline for her doctor to get the full picture of her condition. After receiving reassurances that Winona way out of any serious danger, he turned his attention back to Morgen
In the days that followed. Leonard intentionally maintained a respectful distance from Winona, thinking it would provide Matthew and Winona with some privacy to reconnect He was quietly optimistic that this space might lead Matthew to reconsider has decision to end the engagement with Winona
A week later, in the hospital’s VIP room, Winona, her face free
makeup, held Matthew’s hand and playfully asked, “Mart,
my arm’s still sore, and I can’t feed myself. Could you help me with breakfast?”
Of course, Matthew replied, his face masked, making it hard to gauge his true feelings.
Feeling the dampness in his palm, Winona let out a soft laugh at gave his hand a gentle squeeze. “You’re so sweet, Man Thanks
Suddenly, Matthew’s hand felt like it was burning up. He quickly cleased Winona’s grip, trying to hide his embarrassment by reaching for the plate of ravioli. He forked a piece and held out to her. Here you go, try some.”
Winona fluttered her long, thick eyelashes at Matthew, playfully asking. It’s really hot. Can you blow on it for me, Matt?” Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and each blink seemed to send gentle flutter through the air, stirring up a restless feeling within him.
Throughout the week, Winona had been making an extra effort be sweet and charming around Matthew, hoping he’d see her genuine attempt to start fresh and make their relationship work.
Her current attempts to win him over were a stark contrast to her previous dismissive behavior, which only made Mathew more suspicious of her sudden transformation

The unexpected flirtation made Matthew’s eyes widen, and his cars turned a deep shade of red. It was the first time she had kissed him, but he maintained his composure, blew on the ravid, and handed it back to her. “It should be cool enough
Winona picked up on the slight tremor in Matthew’s voice, despite his otherwise composed demeanor. She smiled, took a bite of the ravioli, and playfully said. “I want more.”
Matthew gave a quiet nod, then blew on the ravioli to cool it down before gently feeding it to Winona.
Steven’s anger simmered as he watched Matthew had been tirelessly caring for Winona for a week now, juggling work from the hospital room and staying by her side every night without a proper rest.
Despite Winona being fine, she continued to order Matthew around as if he were her servant. ‘I knew she isn’t really into Mr. Langford: she’s just playing games and bullying him. She’s so mean, Steven thought to himself.
Steven had reached his limit. He strode over to the bed. “Mr. Langford, she’s been here a week, and the doc says she’s good to go home. She’s got the energy to flirt, but can’t handle a meal? Don’t let her push you around.”
Matthew glanced at Winona’s bandaged head, a flicker of pain in his eyes, before he gave Steven a chilly stare. “When did I give you the right to butt into my affairs?”
Steven’s fists clenched in frustration. Just a week ago, Matthew had promised to keep a clear head around Winona, not let her sway him. But now, it seemed that promise had gone out the window.
Winona rolled her eyes at Steven, snuggling closer to Matthew’s side with a teasing lift of her brow. “I’m not asking you to wait on me,” she said. “If Matt’s cool with treating me like a queen, what’s your problem? It’s not any of your concern.
She recalled her past life when Steven had been all too eager to badmouth her to Matthew. He’d even tried to bring other women into Matthew’s bed, despite being told off. Even after being sent to Veridia to toil as punishment, he hadn’t mended his ways.
Before, it hadn’t bothered her because she hadn’t seen a future with Matthew. But now, with her sights set on being with him, she wasn’t going to let Steven get in the way.
Steven, clearly annoyed, complained, “Mr. Langford, this fool’s just trying to rile me up!”
Winona gave Steven a disdainful stare. “You’re the fool here,” she snapped back, then shifted her gaze to Matthew. “Matt, who’s the real fool here, me or him?”
Matthew shot Steven a brief look and said, “Definitely him!” He then casually turned back to Winona. The old Winona had been easily fooled and innocent, but this new version seemed like a different person altogether.
He’d had a private chat with the doctor, who thought Winona’s head injury might have been a lucky break, clearing up her thinking.
But Matthew wasn’t fully buying into the doctor’s theory. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was just another of Winona’s tricks to fool him.
Steven felt like he’d been blindsided. “Mr. Langford, didn’t you say you wouldn’t let that ditzy woman push you around anymore?”
Winona’s face flushed with anger as she shot Steven a glare. “Hey, what’s my size got to do with you? Who are you to judge my body?”
Matthew gave Steven an icy look and growled, “Apologize!”
Seeing Matthew defend Winona, Steven was genuinely baffled. “Are you the same sharp and tough Mr. Langford I know? How can you side with a fool?”

Winona was about to speak when she caught sight of some familiar faces at the hospital room door. Pretending not to see them, she swiftly grabbed her medical chart from the nightstand and tossed it to Steven.

“Sure, I was out of it for a while, but the doc says this head injury actually straightened me out. I’m not a fool anymore,” she
said.
Her eyes brimmed with tears, her voice shaking. “Please, take a good look at the report and lay off. I don’t want to be treated like a fool. She was eager to show everyone that she had her wits about her again.
Morgan, who’d accompanied Leonard to collect Winona from the hospital, felt like she’d been struck by lightning upon hearing Winona’s words. Shock and fear drained the color from her face, her heart pounding in her chest.
‘How did this happen?” she thought desperately. ‘With Winona back to her sharp self, how can I keep her under my thumb and make her work for Felicia to maintain Felicia’s image as a genius? And how will I control the entire Mosley family through Winona?”
