As we were leaving St. Mary’s Church, a young man in a black suit brushed past us.
My heart skipped a beat. I grabbed Lucas and whispered, “Does he look familiar to you?”
Lucas said, “I noticed too. He looks like Adrian Bright.”
Adrian Bright, the eldest son of Vincent Bright, the boss of the Bright Family. We had been investigating this mafia family for the past two
years, but they were so discreet that we couldn’t find an opportunity to make a move.
And now, with Adrian Bright right in front of us, how could I let him slip away?
I told Lucas, “You go back first. I’ll follow him and see what he’s doing here.”
Lucas knew my temperament. Once I made up my mind, there was no talking me out of it. He could only say, “I’ll wait for you at the bottom of
the hill. Be careful, and don’t confront him directly!”
I followed Adrian Bright into the church.
I saw him kneel before the altar, light three incense sticks devoutly, and mutter something.
What, did he think he could lay down his knife and instantly become a saint?
Impossible.
Adrian Bright was the right–hand man of the Bright Family, ruthless and cruel. The kind of demon that even God wouldn’t accept.
After finishing his prayers, he got up to leave.
I couldn’t follow him anymore, so I bought some incense sticks and casually asked a priest, “That handsome guy just now, does he come here
often?”
The priest replied, “Yes, he comes two or three times a month, at irregular times.”
I had a bold idea: to get close to Adrian Bright and infiltrate the Bright Family.
Lucas strongly opposed it, but I threatened not to marry him if he didn’t let me do this job, forcing him to agree.
I said, “Lucas, this is the last time. After we take down the Bright Family, I’ll quit being a detective. I’ll work at the front desk registering people, marry you, and have children, okay?”
Lucas didn’t say anything. He was still angry.
I waited at St. Mary’s Church for half a month before I finally saw Adrian Bright again.
While he was praying, I stood not far away, watching him.
After he finished, he turned around, his sharp gaze shooting straight at me.

Our eyes met for a moment, and he walked towards me.
Good, woman, you’ve successfully attracted his attention.
“You seem to have been watching me. Do we know each other?” he asked loudly.
“Can we get to know each other?” I asked boldly.
“Why?”
“You’re… handsome,” I said, my face probably turning red.
“Nonsense,” Adrian Bright turned away and left.
After that, every time he came to pray, I would try to talk to him.
Finally, one day, he said, “Beautiful lady, would you like to have dinner?”
