Chapter 31
Shawn seriously repeated, “I have a better body than they do. You’ve seen it.”
Lindsey’s face turned bright red. She looked away, mumbling, “I was drunk that night. I don’t remember anything. I blacked out.”
Shawn chuckled softly, “No worries. There’ll be plenty more chances. You’ll remember eventually.”
Lindsey was puzzled, and when she realized what was happening, she was startled. She felt it was necessary to remind Shawn, “Mr. Ludwig, we’re just pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend. Did you forget?”
Shawn’s smile gradually faded as he took a sip of his drink. “Whether it’s real or not is entirely up to Ms. Riley.” With that, he pulled over his laptop and started typing, appearing to focus on his work.
The room fell silent, and Lindsey felt she might’ve said something wrong. Luckily, it wasn’t long before the guys from the pool returned, dressed and ready.
“Shawn, who’s this pretty lady? Aren’t you going to introduce her?” a guy with blue hair teased.
Shawn closed his laptop and answered in a casual tone, “Just a friend.”
“What kind of friend gets to come here with you? Must be someone special!” the blue–haired guy continued to ask.
Shawn gave him a cold look, which made the guy shut up. Seeing Shawn wasn’t in a good mood, they decided not to bother him and started asking Lindsey questions.
“Hey there, what’s your name?”
“How did you meet Shawn?”
“How close have you two gotten?”
“Do you have any plans to get married? Need a groomsman?”
After that flurry of questions, Lindsey realized she could only answer the first one. But it wasn’t an issue; these people were so enthusiastic that she just needed to smile and nod or shake her head, and they’d carry on with the conversation.
While they were talking, Lindsey’s phone rang. It was Florence calling. “Lindsey, we’ve had Claire checked by the doctor, and they said her condition isn’t good and suggested giving up on treatment. But how can we give up like that?”
Florence felt sad. Even though she’d just met Claire earlier that day, she couldn’t bear to watch such a vibrant young life slowly fade away. She felt there must still be a way to save her.
When Lindsey heard the news, she was stunned. It was hard for her to accept. “Ms. Calloway, maybe you could talk to the doctors again. There might still be a chance. Claire is so young; she can make it through this.”
Florence silently glanced back at Claire, pressing her lips together. “Alright, I’ll give it another try!”
“Which hospital are you at? Wait for me,” Lindsey asked. She was determined to go and see for herself.
Shawn noticed her anxiety and stood up as well. “What’s going on? Who’s in the hospital?”
“A friend. She’s been sick for two years. Today the doctor suggested giving up treatment. But she’s even younger than me,” Lindsey, feeling downcast, didn’t want to say more to Shawn. She quickly gathered her things, said a brief goodbye, and was about to leave,
“Wait a moment, I’ll go along with you,” Shawn called out to her.
Lindsey didn’t say anything and silently allowed him to follow. It wasn’t until they got in the car that she realized the guy with the blue hair had also come along. She looked at Shawn curiously.
“Hello, my name’s Jeffrey. I’m joining you. Maybe I can help out in some way,” Jeffrey said.
Shawn added, “He graduated from one of the top medical schools in the country and has a talent for handling complex cases. Let him come along. He enjoys these challenges”
Lindsey nodded, feeling a bit excited. “I might need your help.
“No need to be so formal, Lindsey. By the way, which hospital is your friend in?” Jeffrey asked.

Chapter 31
Lindsey thought for a moment and replied, “The First Hospital.”
“What a coincidence! Lindsey!” Jeffrey clapped his thigh and laughed.
Lindsey was confused. She asked softly, “What’s up with that hospital?”
“Oh, the director of that hospital is my uncle,” Jeffrey replied.
Lindsey’s eyes widened in surprise. She thought, ‘It’s so nice that he can help me!
When they reached the hospital, Henry was still pleading desperately in the attending doctor’s office. “Claire is so young, she can’t die! She’s just starting her life. Please try to help her! It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t succeed, don’t leave us in despair.”
Florence looked inside, saying, “He’s been in there for two hours and won’t come out no matter what.”
Lindsey nodded and pushed the door open, Shawn and Jeffrey following her. When Henry saw her, hope lit up in his tired eyes. “Ms. Riley, Claire can’t die; I refuse to accept it.”
Even though Henry knew Lindsey probably couldn’t help him, he looked at her with immense hope as if clinging to a lifeline.
Jeffrey greeted the doctor with familiarity, “Mr. Welch, do you have the patient’s scans? Can I take a look?”
“Where have you been lately, running around like crazy? I haven’t seen you at the hospital for more than half a month,” Dr. Welch said and pulled out Claire’s scans.
Jeffrey examined closely, his frown growing deeper with each passing moment. “This is going to be tough.”
Dr. Welch nodded, adding, “Yeah, the surgery is difficult, and the patient isn’t in good health. We can’t handle it at all; once on the operating table, we might not make it.”
Hearing this, Henry bowed his head in despair. Florence patted his shoulder to offer support.
The mood in the room became heavy, but then Jeffrey put the scans down with a grin and said, “It’s not completely hopeless; there’s still a small chance of saving Claire.”
Henry looked up excitedly, grabbing Jeffrey’s arm. “Really? Please, you must save Claire.”
Dr. Welch also turned to Jeffrey. “Are you suggesting asking Mr. Grier for help? But Mr. Grier doesn’t perform surgeries anymore, and many influential people have tried to persuade him, only to be turned away.”
Dr. Welch shook his head, thinking it was hopeless. But Jeffrey just laughed, “That’s because none of them caught his eye.”
Jeffrey put away Claire’s scans and snapped his fingers at Lindsey. “Let’s go, Lindsey. I’ll take you to see my grandpa.”
Lindsey hadn’t processed what was happening before Shawn pulled her out the door. “Grandpa?”
“Yeah, Mr. Grier is my grandpa. He’s stubborn and loves peace, so he lives far out.” Jeffrey sighed, “I still don’t know what happened twenty years ago. He’s such a good doctor, and out of nowhere, he just quit. No one could change his mind.”
