Chapter 34
The private room Mr. Grier reserved was at a fancy place called Ethereal Haven, and the waiter guided them in. “Lindsey, feel free to order whatever you like. After all, this is Shawn’s place. He’s got it covered!”
Lindsey was taken aback, looking at Shawn in surprise. If she remembered correctly, last time, Anthony had dropped money here. The thought made Lindsey chuckle. They only had themselves to blame.
Mr. Grier glanced at Lindsey, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “Lindsey, do you want to get your mother’s belongings back?”
Lindsey was surprised. Only in the last few days did she realize she didn’t know much about Elaine. What Mr. Grier referred to definitely wasn’t about Starshine Harmony Villa. And Elaine’s background seemed very complicated.
“Spineless!” Z scoffed, showing his disdain when he noticed her hesitation.
Lindsey looked up at him, clearly articulating every word. “I never said I wasn’t willing.” Then she turned to Mr. Grier, “Mr. Grier, what exactly did my mom have?” That was why Lindsey hesitated–she was worried she might not be able to handle the responsibilities.
Now Lindsey didn’t want to miss any chance; she wanted to live a fulfilling life.
Mr. Grier tapped his fingers steadily on the table, hesitating before choosing to stay silent, and looked over at Z. Lindsey followed his gaze.
Z slowly began. “Elaine had an organization called Stargazer, the type that gets paid to carry out tasks for people. Every mission they took on was a success. The organization was full of talented individuals from various professions. But now it’s just me and Mr. Grier.”
Lindsey was shocked inside. She thought, ‘Is my mom that impressive? So when Mr. Grier asks if I want to reclaim Elaine’s things, is this what he means?‘
Lindsey pursed her lips and asked, “Why did the organization fall apart like this? Does it have something to do with my mom’s disappearance? And why did my mom suddenly disappear?”
Z didn’t speak again but gave a knowing look at Mr. Grier.
Mr. Grier sighed and said, “Because of your mom’s sudden departure, the organization was leaderless. People started to leave and drift apart, and eventually, it dwindled to what it is now.
“As for Elaine’s sudden disappearance, I believe it was related to a mission that went wrong. Nathaniel sacrificed himself; Nathaniel was Elaine’s boyfriend at the time.”
Lindsey was shocked once again. In her impression, Elaine had always seemed indifferent about relationships. Now it appeared that it was just because the people she interacted with were different.
The atmosphere in the private room became heavy, and suddenly, Jeffrey spoke up, “Is your sudden retirement also related to that matter?”
Mr. Grier glared at Jeffrey. He thought, I’m feeling sentimental, and you interrupt me.’
“The organization has disbanded. What’s the point of me sticking around? I had no choice but to retire. But now that you’re here, Lindsey, I can come back and show my skills again!” Mr. Grier said.
Mr. Grier seemed very excited, but Jeffrey said gloomily, “Even if Lindsey didn’t show up, Grandpa, you could still be out there helping people!”
Jeffrey thought, ‘Isn’t there a saying that doctors are compassionate like parents?‘ He thought his grandpa was an oddball, being particularly good at ignoring those in need.
Mr. Grier slammed the table, his beard twitching in anger. “Wasn’t I in a bad mood for the past twenty years? The disbandment was a blow to me. In that state, how could I perform surgeries? Sending people off would be more like it!”
Jeffrey pursed his lips and mimed zipping his mouth shut.
But Mr. Grier had no intention of letting him off. He glared and continued, “You better not hang out with your friends all the time. Spend some time seriously studying medicine; you might have to take over someday!
“In the future, you should assist Lindsey well. This Stargazer is for you young folks!”
Mr. Grier waved his hand. “I’m getting old, can’t keep it up for many more years!”
Shawn was speechless. Jeffrey quickly adapted, rolling his eyes playfully and calling out to Lindsey, “Shawn!” Then, he turned to Shawn and cheerfully exclaimed, “Lindsey!” Of course, he soon received a gentle kick from Shawn in return.

“Don’t rush things yet. Whether Stargazer can be rebuilt depends on whether Ms. Riley can meet the requirements. Otherwise, all this talk is just empty promises!” Z chimed in at the right moment.
Lindsey smiled slightly, “I think I won’t do too badly! Also, how should I address you?”
“Z, the man responded coolly.
“Okay, let’s eat, everybody! It’s great to be together.” Mr. Grier chimed in to ease the tension. Turning to Lindsey, he added, “Lindsey, don’t take it too personally. That’s just his personality.”
Lindsey nodded, having grasped the situation. During the meal, Mr. Grier took out his medicine box. Opening it revealed a collection of medical books that he handed over to Lindsey.
“Lindsey, rebuilding Stargazer isn’t easy. You’ll need exceptional skills. Take these books home and study them. Next week, come to my place, and I’ll have a test ready for you!” Mr. Grier said.
Mr. Grier chuckled, but Lindsey felt a lot of pressure. From what Mr. Grier said, she had to finish reading these books within a week. Quietly, Lindsey hugged the books, repeatedly reassuring herself.
*And this one too. I don’t expect you to learn it all. Learn as much as you can, but honestly, I don’t care much if Stargazer gets rebuilt or not,” Z said.
Z tossed over a USB drive and didn’t look at Lindsey again, instead just started eating. “What’s this?”
“This is his most precious treasure. Lindsey, make sure to learn. He’s got a sharp tongue but a soft heart!” Mr. Grier chuckled.
Jeffrey looked at the pile of books in Lindsey’s arms and pouted, “Grandpa, you never showed me these books before.”
Mr. Grier tapped his head with chopsticks. “Did I stop you from looking at them? It’s because you were always playing! Those books have been sitting there, almost getting chewed by ants, and you never even bothered to look at them!”
Jeffrey looked at Mr. Grier with sad eyes, then lowered his head and started eating.
Lindsey took a deep breath and sighed inwardly, “It’s a long journey ahead!”
“By the way, Lindsey, the Stargazer base is long gone. Do you think we should find a new secret hideout?” Mr. Grier asked suddenly.
Lindsey paused, calculated her funds, and said decisively, “How about I buy a villa first? Villa areas are in the suburbs, secluded with few people, and villas have a small yard. If needed, we could always dig a tunnel or something.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” Mr. Grier agreed enthusiastically, raising both hands in agreement.
Z snorted, “Big plans, but no skills. Nice talk, but where’s the money coming from?”
