“That Donan!” Robert snapped, furious. “Who does he think he is, telling me what to do? What right does he have to judge how I raise my daughters, or to tell me who I favor? It’s none of his business!”

The Years family was being torn apart in the media. The scandal was everywhere, and people were up in arms. No one could understand how the family could treat their two daughters so unfairly.
Yes, every family might have its issues, but when they refused to reflect on their actions and made things worse, it enraged the public even more. And people, especially after hearing Elaine’s side, felt an overwhelming sense of sympathy for her.

Jepson shot back, his voice full of frustration. “I wish she wasn’t my sister! What kind of sister treats her family like this? What’s the deal with her! Yeah, she got a little upset at home–so what?
“She wasn’t starving, she wasn’t dying, so why’s everyone acting like she’s some kind of saint? Why are you guys all piling on me? You too…”
Jepson was completely confused as to why everyone was blaming him. He had called his friends for support, but not a single one had stood by him. They all blamed him for treating his sister poorly, telling him he was wrong

Before he could continue, a loud smack echoed through the room. The air went still.
Shawn’s eyes widened in shock as he looked at Jepson’s reddened face, the imprint of a slap still visible. It was Tracy.

Tracy looked at her son with heartache, feeling the weight of every word. “How could you say that about your r sister? You’re telling me she’s not dead! Jepson, is that how you feel? She’s your real sister, no matter how much you dislike her! You can’t say such inhumane things about her!”
Her heart broke again, the pain a dull ache that wouldn’t go away.
Maybe it was because she, as a mother, had been so unfair, favoring Bianca so much that it had led her sons down this path. They had followed her example, treating Elaine with disdain and cruelty
