Bianca struggled to digest everything Jepson had just told her, barely able to believe the words she had just heard.
“George and Sandra? Jepson, are you telling me that Elaine has recognized George and Sandra as her parents? So, from now on, she’s basically their daughter?”
Jepson nodded somberly. “Yes, that’s exactly what happened. Mom and Dad didn’t want you to know because they were afraid you’d think it was you who pushed Elaine out of this family. They thought keeping it from you would spare you some heartache. But since you’ve asked. I’m telling you now. Elaine chose to call Sandra her mom on her own.”
As Jepson spoke, there was a note of sadness in his voice.
Bianca couldn’t hide her disbelief.
Elaine had gone and climbed the highest branch, and now she had the perfect family–could Bianca possibly feel better about this?

Jepson’s heart sank at her words,
“Yeah, we should be happy for her, he muttered, but his voice lacked conviction.
Bianca could tell something was off. She snorted inwardly, disgusted by the hypocrisy of the Yeats family. They still held a soft spot for Elaine, yet acted like they had been so kind to their own foster daughter and sister. It was nauseating.
“Jepson,” she said smoothly, ‘since our relationship with George isn’t great, and we’ll be staying in Lento for a while, don’t you think we should try to repair things with them? If we get on good terms with George and Sandra, that might even help smooth things over with Elaine.”
Jepson considered her words, nodding slowly.
“That makes sense,” he agreed. “But…”
“But what?” Bianca prodded, her confidence growing.
“But our family’s relationship with Sandra has been frozen for decades. It’s not something we can fix overnight. And besides, Mom’s furious that Elaine called Sandra, her long–time enemy, her mother, She hasn’t been able to eat or sleep properly for days. If we were to reach out to Sandra now, she might kick us out of the house.”
Bianca rolled her eyes inwardly, but didn’t let her frustration show. “Jepson, look at what’s happening with the Yeats family right now. Things are falling apart. But Sandra’s family? They’re Lento’s true elite, the real deal.
“If we can mend our ties with them, considering blood ties and family, George and his brothers can’t just stand by and watch us fall, right? We could be doing the Yeats family a favor by getting along with George.”
Jepson hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “You have a point.”
“But how do we get close to Sandra’s side? What if she doesn’t want to have anything to do with us?”
Bianca’s smile was full of self–assurance. “Well, if Elaine can get close to George and Sandra, so can we. We’ll need your help, Jepson, to make the initial connection. But I’m sure my charm will do the rest. Once I’ve won them over, everything will fall into place.
Maybe, just maybe, George and Sandra would even accept her as their daughter.
Bianca was happily lost in this daydream.
Jepson understood now–Bianca wanted to follow Elaine’s example and gain the favor of George and Sandra first.
“Alright, I’ll try,” he said, though he didn’t seem entirely convinced.
While Bianca and Jepson continued to plot, Elaine was enjoying dinner with her new parents and brothers.
“Eat more, this will help you grow, but it’s low in calories,” Sandra said, passing Elaine some beef slices. “How’s the food? 1 remember Boynton’s cuisine is more on the mild side, but my side of the family is all about spice, so our food tends to be a
