Chapter 28
Elaine’s indifference wasn’t just apparent–it was piercing. She ignored them completely, and that left Trevor with a couldn’t quite shale
If Trevon went to confront her and ask why. Elaine would probably think he’d lost his mind.
an inexplicable discomfort he
After all, it used to be them who ignored Elaine. Now, it seemed like they were the ones clinging to her, and that realization infuriated Trevon
As Elaine descended the stairs, Graham, who sat at the head of the table, cleared his throat softly. His health had been frail for years, and he had been recuperating at a mountain resort until today.
Despite Graham’s weak and tired appearance, his expression was filled with warmth and affection for Elaine
Worried that seeing Tracy and Bianca’s close bond might upset Elaine, Grahans motioned for her to join him quickly. “Elaine, come have some breakfast,” he said softly.
Meanwhile, Ella, seated beside him, wore a stern frown. Years of being the matriarch had hardened her, and her sharp, disapproving gaze made in clear she was ready to unleash a reprimand at any moment.
Though Ella had spent much of her time recently taking care of Graham, she had still heard about Elaine’s recent actions, which had left her deeply displeased
However, Elaine smiled faintly as she looked at Graham. The ice in her heart melted just a little.
In the Yeats family, Graham was the only one who had ever shown her kindness. This was her first time seeing him since returning from Floren Village.
“Grandpa, you’re back Elaine asked as she walked over to sit beside him.
Graham nodded. “Yes, Shawn picked me up this morning. He said he’s planning to take some time off after work to go skiing. I remember you used to go with him every year. Shawn, that boy–he’s either buried in work or up on the slopes
“He’d ski until all hours of the night if you weren’t there to keep him in check. Honestly, if it weren’t for you looking out for him, he might’ve ended up freezing out there?
Graham glanced briefly at Tracy and Blanca, who were sharing a tender moment nearby. He reached out and patted Elaine’s shoulder, his intention to comfort her clear.
No matter how much Tracy or those insufferable grandsons favored Bianca, Graham wanted Elaine to know he was always on her side.

his gaze and nodded slightly, the corners of her lips curving into a faint smile to assure him she was fine.
Tucker, who had been quietly listening, coughed lightly at the mention of their past skiing trips.
Graham glanced around and asked, “By the way, where are Jepson and Calvin?”
The room fell silent for a moment, and only Bianca looked slightly uneasy as she answered. “They went out for breakfast.
They might have some misunderstandings about Elaine because of what happened with Finley. I don’t think they want to see her right now.
Elaine’s expression didn’t falter. Whether they wanted to see her or not no longer mattered to her. It made no difference at all.
In fact, Elaine thought it would be better if they never crossed paths again. Then everyone could live their lives peacefully without the tension of pretending to get along.
Bianca found herself surprised by Elaine’s calm demeanor. She thought, Is she really not upset? Has she truly changed?‘
Graham sighed quietly to himself but said nothing. He had tried so many times over the years to reason with Tracy and the grandsons, urging them
to treat Elaine beber
Elaine had already endured so much, having grown up away from her family and in hardship.
Graham could still recall the day Elaine first came home to the family. Her feet were caked in mud, and she hesitated to step onto the pristine doors until a housekeeper handed her a pair of slippers.

Tracy, adomed in her usual elegant attire, stood at the top of the staircase. Her expression, though complex, revealed a hint of barely concealed disdain as she looked down at the disheveled girl who was supposedly her biological daughter
That sense of distance from her own mother, Elaine later realized, was an easy trigger for feelings of inferiority
As time went on, Graham observed Elaine. She tried so hard to ingratiate herself with the family, her gaze always filled with a mixture of caution and longing It stirred an indescribable ache in his heart.
Yet every time Graham brought up the topic, Tracy would dissolve into tears, lamenting how difficult it had been for her. Discovering that Bianca wasn’t her biological daughter had collapsed on her.
Of course, Graham understood her pain. It wasn’t easy to reconcile raising someone else’s child as her own, only to find out her real daughter had. been left to fend for herself, her potential wasted. Of course, it weighed heavily on Tracy’s heart.
As for the grandsons, they outright rejected the idea of accepting Elaine as their sister, insisting that Bianca would always be their only sibling
In the end, after countless failed attempts at reconciliation, Graham could only let it be, a deep sigh his only recourse,
Through the years, Elaine gave her all to the family. She cared for every single member with painstaking effort, tailoring her actions to their preferences and trying her best to fit in. There was a clear undertone of eager flattery in her gestures, and Graham saw it all.
And yet, despite everything she did, her genuine care and kindness seemed to make no impact on them. Elaine, so good–hearted and deserving, was met with a family full of indifference or worse,
Over time, Graham became increasingly disappointed in his daughter–in–law and grandchildren. He silently vowed that if a day ever came when Elaine chose to leave this family, he would support her.
Graham only hoped the others would regret their actions, though deep down, he doubted they ever truly
In his mind’s eye. Graham could already foresee the eventual outcome. If that day came, he hoped Elaine would never forgive t
When Bianca saw Elaine walking over, she greeted her with a radiant smile, her voice warm and composed. “You’re up early today, Elaine”
“Yeah,” Elaine replied as she took her seat, her expression neutral and devoid of emotion for anyone but Graham.
Shawn observed her with a mix of discomfort and unease. Her cold indifference and deliberate avoidance were nothing like the Elaine of the past. It didn’t sit well with him, but in the end, he kept his thoughts to himself.
Shawn wouldn’t admit it aloud, but the words Elaine had spoken the night be
before–about severing ties with them–had left their mark on hirn.
However, as he recalled how Elaine had taken the dress meant for Bianca the previous day, and her growing sense of entitlement after marrying into the Morgan family. Shawn’s expression darkened further.
Shawn thought. It’s my fault to spoil her lately. Yes, she can have her little outbursts, but once they’re over, she needs to fall back in line and listen
Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to put her back in her place. She isn’t Bianca, after all:
Meanwhile, Tracy assumed that Elaine had already forgiven them for wrongfully accusing her of pushing Bianca into the pool. Otherwise, why would Elaine have returned to the house!
Moreover, Tracy’s back pain had flared up again. She had planned to ask Elaine to give her an acupuncture treatment this weekend.
