Chapter 31
Ella’s face turned even paler. She thought. If the news of Elaine calling off the engagement gets out, won’t it be humiliating for Bianca to end up with a man Elaine rejected”
“Fine.” Ella said after a moment, straightening up with a righteous tone. “You all heard her, didn’t you? She’s the one who broke off the engagement this time Neither Bianca nor 1 forced her into this,
If Banca ends up with Finley later, itll be perfectly justined, and the Scout family won’t have any grounds to complain. Only Bianca deserves someone as exceptional as Finley”
Though the situation was somewhat awkward, Elaine and Finley were no longer engaged. If Blanca could marry such an outstanding man, it would still full one of Ella’s dreams.
Meanwhile, Tracy was nearly trembling with rage. Clutching her chest, she didn’t say a word, but she inwardly agreed with Shawn’s assessment. She believed Elaine was causing trouble again, just like always.
How can she break ties with the family over something so trivial, only to grab everyone’s attention once more! The last time Elaine stormed off to Floren Village for two months, hasn’t she come crawling back to the family afterward? Tracy murmured
Tracy sneered. “I wonder what more she wants. Haven’t we done enough for her all these years, trying to make amends?
“Let her go! Let’s see how long the lasts before she comes back broke and begging!”
Among the family members, only Harlan and Tucker seemed to sense the truth: Elaine likely wasn’t seeking attention. Instead, she might have truly decided, once and for all, not to return
As for Graham, who was already deeply disappointed in his grandson and daughter–in–law, he would unquestionably support Elaine’s decision.
Once Elaine walked out of the place, she felt a dull ache in her chest. Everything was over now,
Elune still couldn’t undersund why her brothers had abandoned her, over and over, watching her struggle in despair and loneliness. How could they be so heartless
Her throat tightened as tears welled up. Yet Ehine reminded herself she’d learned to survive even in the darkest of times.
From
now on. Elaine wouldn’t have any expectations of them.
“Disappointed?” A deep, magnetic voice sounded from behind her.
Elaine turned around, her bright, tear–streaked face lighting up with surprise.
Kingsley stood there, his expression unreadable. His sharp sunt and unbuttoned white shirt gave him a relaxed but sophisticated look. His tall, well- built frame raduated a cool, detached aura that made him seem untouchable.
Her lips trembled as Ehine whispered. “Kingsley“” She had no idea when he’d arrived. She hadn’t even noticed his presence as she wept.
Kingsley’s dark gaze flickered slightly. He stepped closer to her.
“Why are you here?” Elaine asked, her voice still shaky.
“Grandma asked me to pick you up.” Kingsley replied. “She wants us to have lunch together at home.
Although Elaine was back at the Years residence, Grace was worried the family might mistreat her. She often sent Kingsley to check in, inviting Elaine to stay at their house for a few nights before returning there. That way, no one could complain
And once Elaine and Kingsley got married, she’d have a legitimate reason to stay there permanently.
Hearing this. Elaine couldn’t help but unile through her tear. Of coune, Grace had always looked out for her. Disappointed? Perhaps “despair” would better describe her feelings
Kingsley pulled out a tissue, his usually cold demeanor softening as he handed it to her. “They’re not worth it,” he said, his voice low but gentle. Trans are precious things”
Hearing this Elaine let out a choked laugh again. Who would’ve thought that such a distant, aloof man could have his moments of kindness! And yet, this warmth was irresistible.

Chapter 31
When Kingsley saw her laugh, his deepened more. He lowered his head slightly to meet her eyes.
In Elaine’s bright gaze, a mischievous sparkle appeared. Like a playful child, she tipped her toes to touch the tip of his shor and leaned closer. nurowang the space between them
The air between them suddenly grew charged with unspoken tension
“Mr. Morgan” Flaine teased in a soft voice, “you’re so nice to me. Aren’t you afraid 11 latch onto you and never let go
Her breath brushed his lips, warm and fragrant. Elaine reached out to tug lightly at his tie, her movements deliberate
Kingsley felt his heart skip a beat, though he kept his composure. His dark eyes, however, betrayed a flicker of emotion
Kingsley was a man of restraint–so much so that it hordered on self–denial. And yet, this only made him more irresistible.
Finally, Kingsley broke the silence, pressing his index finger lightly against his lips. “Be good. Just because someone hands you a tissue doesn’t mean they’re a good person. Don’t be so quick to trust, understand?”
That single “Be Good” left Elaine speechless. The defiant girl who challenged everyone else in her life found herself surrendering to his quiet authority
Elaine tilted her head playfully. “Then what about you, Mr. Morgan! Are you a good person?”
Kingsley stood in the shadows, his expression unreadable, ‘No, I’m not, he thought.
Elaine’s face brightened with a dazzling smile. “You know, Mr. Morgan, has anyone ever told you how incredibly attractive you are!”
Her words carried an unmistakable hint of flirtation. Even if Kingsley had been the densest man alive, he wouldn’t have missed her meaning.
“You’re still young” Kingsley replied, looking at the playful girl in front of him. His hand rested gently on her shoulder, his tone calm but firm. That was all he said, as if to draw a line.
Perhaps Elaine was too young to understand what it meant to provoke a man as dangerous as him.
Flaine could marry him, and Kingsley could shield her from the world, but love! That was out of the question. Loving him would only lead to heartbreak
Meanwhile, Grace wanted them to get married. If Elaine was willing, Kingsley could give her security, care, and a life without worries. But he couldn’t give her his heart.
To ham, Elaine was just a mischievous, spirited girl. From the moment they mes, Kingsley had realized that if she ever sensed he had fallen for her, her interest in him might fade as quickly as it had sparked.
Hearing Kingsley’s straightforward rejection, Elaine lowered her voice to retort. “I’m not that young. I’m old enough to date, and definitely not a minor. You can’t trick me. Besides, you’re not that much older–only twenty–five. Our age gap is just right.”
Elaine added with a cheeky smile, “And don’t forget, l’in your fiancée and your future wife. If Grace finds out you’re turning me down, she’s definitely going to be upset with you.”
Elaine didn’t i hesitate to p pull Grace into the conversation, clearly intent on making her stance known. Her determined look said it all–she had no plan to let him go.
Kingsley gazed down at the mischievous little troublemaker clinging to him. He didn’t say much but placed his hand on her shoulder, a faint sigh escaping him as he gently patted her head.
“Be good. Come down for now. Let’s get going. Grandma’s waiting for you at home,” Kingpley said softly
“Alright,” Elaine replied. She let go of him without making a bigger fuss, obediently climbing down from where she’d been leaning on him.
Then, like a little shadow, Elaine followed him to the car, her presence as persistent and endearing as ever.
