The Yeats often assumed Elaine’s sudden changes in behavior had some external cause–like the time they accused her of pushing Bianca into the pool, or the way they sent Elaine back in Floren Village to suder.
They thought it was those things, combined with the harsh words that followed, that made her snap one morning and destroy her watch
But it wasn’t like that at all.
The real shift happened the moment she woke up in the hospital, looked at them, and told them she was done. No more pretending. She was out of the Years family for good
But they never saw it coming. They thought she was just throwing a tantrum, trying to draw attention to herself to take it off Bianca and make it all

Without another word, she turned toward the door. “Someone, show them out.”
The door opened, but it wasn’t a bodyguard who entered-

Tall, poised, and impeccably dressed, his presence filled the room with an undeniable force.
His polished shoes clicked slowly on the carpet, each step deliberate, commanding.
When Kingsley walked in, the entire office seemed to shift with his presence. His deep–set eyes held a hint of mystery, and his lips were pressed in a tight line, though today, he seemed to be in a slightly better mood.
Even Tucker held his breath, sensing that Kingsley was powerful
Elaine was momentarily stunned by the sight of has cold, perfect face, a mix of surprise and pleasure flickering in her eyes.
